Because it's almost a year from midterm elections and it will have been forgotten by then thanks to the tried and true tactic of flooding the 24 hour news cycle with so much bullshiat people get overwhelmed and forget

Unfortunately it will likely fare well in their gerrymandered to hell and back districts - they can run ads about how they're against the welfare state and socialism and the poor bastards who believe their BS will vote them right back into office.

That's a year of people gradually coming to understand that the loss of food stamps was a direct result of Obamacare and 24 hour/day wild parties in the IRS offices.

Republican math.

So of course Ghomert is against it.

there's people in their districts also like their welfare and food stamps... they just hate that black people and mexicans may be getting those same benefits. I didn't read TFA but i'm guessing they didn't somehow managed to just cut black and brown people's food stamps w/o cutting poor white people's stamps, did they? And while that could be a fatal strategic mistake, the GOP can always make up for it if they get poor whites to blame blacks, mexicans and abortions for the cuts to their food stamps.

At this point, I think the GOP is hell bent on bringing Ayn Rand's work to life as much as possible.  Unfortunately for them, when the people they are screwing over in the name of "freedom and the Murican way" realize what's happened to them, the whole thing will blow up in their faces, and Rand will finally be exposed for the true fraud that she was.

It will take a while yet, but it'll all blow up in their faces.  One corporate giveaway at a time.

Yes but the giveaway to the agriculture industry first goes through poor browned skinned people. Republicans want the free money to go directly to the wealthy white landowners in Iowa without any poor brown people getting any sort of benefit along the way.

Nothing will happen as a result of this. The GOP has no incentive to give a flying fark about what the people want. Gerrymandering has given them an ironclad lock on the House majority until at least 2022, and I mean ironclad. The Dems would have to start winning rural counties in the Midwest in order to overcome the odds stacked against them. I've literally seen it calculated as them needing to win the nationwide popular House vote 57/43 just to end up with an even split in the House. So why should the GOP give a flying fark what pisses off the people? We don't live in a democracy or even anything that approaches having Democratic elements anymore. The United States has become a corporate plutocracy, bordering on feudalism.

I've been hearing how Obamacare was going to rip my health insurance apart... It went up this year, but very little, and it goes up every year. The amazing thing though? I used to pay the amazing price of $3 per 'script, with the exception of my Lortab, which was $9. Haven't filled the Lortab yet, but the three I filled the other day totaled $.17. One 'script was 72 cents... I'm not exactly sure how this is a bad thing. I'd love to revisit these boards in about 5 years and see what's going on.

"The Bible says, to whom much is given, much is required," Rep. Corrine Brown (D-FL) observed during debate over whether funding for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) should be stripped from the farm bill. "And this is a sad day in the House of Representatives. Shame on the Republicans! Shame on the House of Representatives!"

You go girl!

I do wonder at times, how many of them are actually passionate ideologues who are pawns of those manipulators by coincidence (like a Bachmann), and how many look at those checks as endorsement to not think beyond certain parameters (Ted Cruz).

The former I can forgive a lot more than the latter. If you really think you're a crusader for a cause, fighting against the odds, and find someone willing to bankroll your crusade, then it would make sense to not question it. It was the fight you were willing to wage already, and your ability to be an ideologue probably predisposes you to limited rationality.

If so, I assume it's been gutted and stuffed full of abortion restrictions.

Along with tying everything to un-attainable work requirements that most people couldn't hope to meet, even with a more active job market.  Oh, and it will likely ban abortion, reinstate DOMA, and kick a puppy.  Because those are all clearly related to SNAP.

They're both destructive, but the former is someone of limited intellectual means being enabled and manipulated and so their mental impairment is enabled. The latter... that strikes me as true evil, they are aware that it's destructive, wrong, and corrosive on a large scale, and yet, they take short-term limited gains of money, power, and/or fame.

To put it another way the former are minds gone astray and manipulated, the latter are sociopaths.

When are they going to do that? Why was passing the bill to guarantee profits to large corporations a higher priority than a bill which assists those in need?

Are you going to be hounding the Republicans until the introduce and pass a food stamp bill, or will you sit by while they do nothing?

Kind of my point; I've gotten to see all of these complaints already in my food justice work here in Seattle anyway. So far, it is still legal to feed people in private if you're not selling anything, but I'm sure if it suddenly is "everyone on food stamps" instead of just the homeless and indigent, the city will try to make it illegal.

2013-07-11 05:24:02 PM
So I'm curious as to how much of the food stamp and child nutrition programs this would gut(If it could get past Obama). Is it ALL of it? 75%? The problem is, they tuck so much random shiat in other bills, I can never keep track of where any funding for anything comes from.

I'm sorry, but that sort of headline wouldn't generate sufficient outrage here.  Even when the stand alone bill is passed, there will still be many who believe the House voted to eliminate food stamps.

LOL No, I'm serious actually. Neighborhoods should  - and ARE - organizing their own community gardens - raising vegetables and chickens. Instead of spending government money on processed unhealthy food made in a factory by some giant company, they can grow their own healthier food.
