FormlessOne: Evil High Priest: red5ish: Sargun: Fark is so virulently anti-Catholic sometimes it's astounding.

Not just Fark either. It's a sickness. I have many many Catholic friends and they are amazed at the degree of anti-Catholic hate online these days.

Might have something to do with all the kid raping. Just a thought.

Not so much the kid raping as the Mafia-like actions to hide the kid raping from anyone else. Had they demonstrated an ounce of remorse, instead of building shell companies to hide the funds of archdioceses, attempting to hush the parents by offering them cash, slandering anyone who tried to bring their kid-raping priests to justice, and giving sermons that blamed the victims, I think folks would've been somewhat more forgiving.

At the core of it all, one has to simply come to the conclusion that they see nothing legitimately wrong with sexually abusing children as long as they're the ones doing it.

I don't have a problem with Catholics.  I have a problem with the Catholic Church.

The Catholics I've met (who I have known to be Catholics - I've probably met plenty of them who never got around to mentioning their exact flavor of religion to me) have been, as a rule, pretty decent folks.  I frequently disagree with them on certain topics, but for the most part they've been friendly and kind and have treated everyone around them with the kind of basic human decency that Jesus preached about, even when they don't agree with those people.

The Catholic Church, on the other hand, actively campaigns against programs to better the health and general well-being of others, particularly in third-world countries, because they're so focused on the "shalt nots" in their holy book that they missed the part about "be nice and take care of people."  Africa is still seeing devastatingly high rates of HIV infection, but the Catholic Church refuses to encourage the use of condoms, because their interpretation of the Bible says condoms are bad.  They're so tied up in "condoms are bad" that they can't see that HIV and AIDS are  worse.  They continue to actively work to keep the LGBT community relegated to second-class citizen status, particularly on the marriage front, when in the eyes of the law marriage is not a religious institution.  It CAN be, but the legal rights and protections granted by a legally binding marriage contract have nothing to do with religion, and you can be married in the eyes of the law without religion ever once coming into play (just ask all the married atheists out there!).  Never mind that every single gay marriage law that has been passed so far in America (I can't speak with authority about the laws in other countries) has included a provision that any church that is morally opposed to same-sex marriage cannot be forced to perform a wedding ceremony for a same-sex couple - they don't want to do it, so they don't want anyone else to be able to do it, ever, even though other groups performing the ceremonies  would have no impact on the Catholic Church whatsoever.  And I'm relatively certain that I don't need to delve into the details of the decades-long child molestation scandal and the Church's utterly insane and deplorable handling of it to let you know how I feel about THAT.

If you are Catholic, I don't have a problem with you or your beliefs, so long as you're not trying to force me to live by them.  But the leadership of the Catholic Church has a LOT to answer for.

Most people who are not an actual child molester or rapist themselves are virulently anti-child molestation and rape. Even murders hate them. When you make your organization synonymous with protecting child rapists, exposing children to an increased likelyhood of rape and molestation by letting them be alone with known rapists and molesters, trying to cover up the crimes of rape and molestation, and blaming the victims of rape and molestation for being attacked WHAT DO YOU FARKING EXPECT.

You do not get a free pass because you're a religion. You don't. I guess there will always be a certain amount of people who thinks it's okay to rape kids if you've dedicated the rest of your non-pedophilic rape time to god or being really really good at football, but most people don't. I would not say it is virulent, but yes, most people reject child rape vehemently and violently. It makes them very angry. It repels them. It disturbs people on a very primal animal level. Can you honestly not understand why institutionally protecting child molesters, and essentially helping them continue to molest by continuing to place predators in positions of authority with children is so horrible to people and so roundly condemned?

What group of people do you think could aid and abet child molestation to the degree the Catholic Church has that people wouldn't react this strongly to? There is no group of people or organization that could do this and have people think it was okay for them to keep doing it.

The amount of condemnation of atheists as amoral hellboard sinners far outweighs any legitimate criticism of the conduct of the Catholic hierarchy (I'm with Lachwen - I've got no beef (especially on Fridays) with the individual Catholic, but the Church itself has a lot to answer for).  I repent nothing because I've done nothing requiring repentance.

"When someone strikes you on one cheek, turn and offer him the other cheek as well, and when someone takes your cloak, offer him also your coat. Luke 6:29 "

Translation: suck it up and quit whining, (and you'll probably shame me into going away).

Can't speak for anyone else, but the individual Catholics I know are fine people, by and large.
And I don't hold the Inquisition, Crusades, etc, against them...ancient history.
The institution of the modern Church, however, set their ethical bar at "granting diplomatic immunity to child molesters".
If you're not virulently opposed to THAT, there's something wrong with you.

Recovering catholic here. Back in the middle of the last century in the US it was not uncommon for non-catholics to send their problem children to catholic school to get some discipline. The kids being "different" were pretty much bully targets from the get go. Not only by their peers but the sadistic nuns seemed to delight in whipping the crap out of the "heathen" kids.
It wasn't until I went to catholic high school that the pedophilia became apparent to me. At first I didn't understand the concept but it finally dawned on me that I was being groomed although it was long after that I learned that word for it. At the end of my second year I told my parents I didn't want to go back to that school because I didn't think it was right for young teen boys to have their bare bottoms spanked and then rubbed with lotion to "reduce the redness". At first they thought I was lying and just wanted to go to the excellent local public high school. It wasn't till after my mother made a few phone calls to other parents that I was yanked out of the sodomy factory.

I'm waiting for the new pope to succumb to some mysterious illness.

So, if you're having problems with your unruly children just send them over to St. Molestatoius. Sister Sadistica and Father O'Sodomy will certainly straighten them out

Quasar: I like how leaking info 'devastated the Vatican' but decades of raping children and covering it up was just swell.

Better pope, same corrupt, bullshiat church.

Look up "Regarding the More Serious Offenses", which was written by Pope Benedict XVI (while he was still Cardinal Ratzinger) in 2001. It did increase the statute of limitations on sexual abuse of a minor within the church (10 years from the victim's 18th birthday) but it also made clear that all such reporting of abuse must be kept within the institution of the church: if the priest is molesting a child tell the bishop, not the police. Secular law enforcement has no moral authority to judge a man of the cloth's behavior, apparently.
