Incontinent_dog_and_monkey_rodeo: Why does everybody ignore inflation?  It pisses me off, every financial show creams themselves over big new "highs" without taking into account how much less the dollar buys than it did back at the last high.

I don't think everyone ignores inflation. More like inflation is so painfully obvious to everyone that doing a pedantic mathematical calculation every single time you talk about anything to do with money and time would lead you to getting punched a lot.

Example -

Jim - "I remember when a coke cost a quarter."

Bob - "Actually Jim, when you adjust for inflation, that coke actually cost you over $1.00 in today's currency."

Jim - "I swear to farking god Bob... this is it. If you bring up adjusting for inflation one more farking time, I am going to kill you. Seriously. We all know about inflation and we all know how it works. I would like to be able to have a conversation with you without bringing it up again and again and again so please, just farking stop already. I wish I had a dollar for every farking time you brought up inflation."

Bob - " If I did give you a dollar every time that happened that dollar would only be worth like 96 cents the next year."
