Funny how Rand states Lincoln was a one of our greatest Presidents but doesn't have an example of why he thinks that.

Bad news for the "Party of Lincoln."

Diogenes: Bad news for the "Party of Lincoln."

Lincoln freed the slaves: that's good.
Lincoln suspended habeas corpus and severely limited the right to free speech: that's bad.
Lincoln had some racist views: that's bad.
Lincoln's views (especially shortly before he died) were fairly forward-thinking for 1860, though: that's good.
Lincoln contained potassium benzoate.

// RAND wants to have his Party of Lincoln cake and eat the secession-hate pie as well
// try that shiat at Howard again, douchecanoe

Oh, they all do.  They're the so-called "Party of Lincoln" when it's convenient.  But honestly, talk about an anachronism.

Today's libertarians (and fark conservatives) have taken such extreme positions that they have to basically make stuff up in order justify their derp.

Party Of Lincoln?  It's more like Potty On Lincoln!

Meh.

Doesn't matter.  Inexplicably, I've got "Da Do Rand, Rand" running through my head.  I hope you're happy.

He wasn't, I recently found out he never even killed a single vampire, the whole thing was a LIE.

/I do like the "borrowed plumage" line, inaccurate for Lincoln, but a good line.

Was Lincoln a Gay Racist Secessionist?

It's all in my new book "Lincoln: A Bunch of Lies and Half-Truths I Made Up to Sell This Book".

Lincoln would backhand Rand Paul so hard Ron Paul's favorite movie would be Battleship Potemkin

One week of the year:  Republicans are the party of Lincoln so that means they can't be racist ever and all blacks should get off the plantation and vote for us.

Fifty-one weeks of the year:  Lincoln was a tyrant who deserved to get shot.

2013-07-11 04:21:37 PM
Finally!!! Finally some republican neo-con realizes Lincoln is the total opposite of everything they stand for.

I'll let other people discuss how farktarded Rand "Kill Liquor Store Robbers With Drones" Paul is. I'll be over here, watching the Lincoln/Douglass episode of Drunk History.

I like Lincoln because he seized private property of capitalists without compensation, he suspended habaes corpus, and emancipated enslaved people.  No wonder Marx was a fan of Lincoln.  I admire V.I. Lenin for much of the same reasons as I do Lincoln.

The Decline of Black Power in the South

In private discussions, Republicans in the South talk explicitly about their goal of turning the Democratic Party into a black party, and in many Southern states they have succeeded. African-American legislators make up the majority of state House and Senate Democratic caucuses in most of the Southern states.

The attack by Republicans on black political power has not, however, been limited to the South. Republican takeovers of either or both branches of the State Legislatures in Pennsylvania, Indiana, Wisconsin, Ohio and Michigan have pushed black elected officials into the minority and out of committee chairmanships and leadership posts.

That was then, this is now.

How odd.  When he spoke at Howard University a few months ago he was Rand "I Love the Party of Lincoln Who Freed the Slaves Didn't You Know the KKK Were Originally All Democrats?" Paul.

I can't believe he was just pandering to a black audience.  No.  There must be another explanation.

Lincoln was kind of a mediocre president at best that got handed a crisis (one that was pretty well predicted, honestly) and eventually resolved it, but half-assedly and only after dropping the ball in major ways five or six times and turning what should have been a terrible, but quick and decisive conflict into a drawn-out brawl.  Then he had basically no real functional plan regarding what to do in the case that they actually won the war, which was part of the reason reconstruction was such an amazingly colossal clusterfark later, and the members of his administration that survived him were corrupt pieces of shiat and that doesn't really imply good things about him.

He also crossed the line constitutionally more than a few times with the martial law and the paranoia in suppressing dissent.  Kind of the GW Bush of the 1800s.

That said, the dude did deal with the most shiat that basically any president ever had to take and he did hold on to a couple ideals and campaign promises pretty tightly.  I give him full points for the thirteenth amendment because he basically pulled every dirty trick, favor-trade, and political capital expenditure in the political book to shove that through a congress that just wanted to put everything related to the war behind them and get back to making money.

So... yeah, calling him an outright bad president is uncalled for, that "tyrant" shiat is stupid, and the fact that most historical figures come in shades of gray is no excuse for advocating something as pants-on-head retarded as the neoconfederate or secession movement... which need to stop looking into the past and try to actually justify their positions in real, modern terms anyhow.

Apparently Richard Gatling came to Lincoln at the beginning of the war and offered to equip the Union army with Gatling guns. Lincoln didn't have the necessary vision to take him up on it but it's been argued that the war would have been over in months rather in years had the Northerners arrived at, say, Bull Run with a couple of dozen machine guns on hand.

This is historically inaccurate. Lincoln had an already functioning plan for reconstituting governments in the formerly seceded states, which was already in effect in Tennessee, Louisiana and Arkansas prior to the end of the war. It is true that his system was largely abandoned after his death, but one cannot blame Lincoln for that.

As to the notion that reconstruction was an "amazingly colossal clusterfark", that does not stand up to much historical scrutiny either. Much of the criticism of Reconstruction originates from attempts to justify the end of reconstruction and the return of white supremacy in the post reconstruction era. Reconstruction was actually rather successful at starting to restructuring southern society to not only be a multi-racial society, but in reducing the stranglehold on economic power that the large landowners had. The region would have been much better off id Reconstruction had been allowed to continue, rather than stagnating the large landholder/share cropper mold that developed in the immediate aftermath of Reconstruction.

From the linked article:

In fact, not only was Abraham Lincoln the worst President, but one of the worst figures in American history.

WOW, one of the "worst figures in American history"? Considering we fought Germany in WWII, it becomes a part of "American history". Is he somehow saying that Lincoln was even worse than Hitler?

That guy makes Rand Paul look positively sane...

People who call Rand Paul a racist over statements like this are too intellectually lazy to consider his comments in the context of his well-established political philosophy.

FYI: Black politicians in the south are in bed with GOP controlled legislatures. Jim Clyburn in SC never throws up a fuss about the gerrymandered as hell districts here because he knows he'll be safe for life, even if it is at the expense of having a higher number of districts that the democrats can compete in.

They don't seem to know it.

I searched for Jim Clyburn asshat and found a lot of hate.

Democrat South Carolina Congressman James Clyburn is one crazy dude. This guy makes the average patient at Bellevue look sane. This is the gentleman who made the claim that global warming will harm blacks more than the rest of America. Now is quoted as saying:
