I never thought I would see this again.

One wheelchair with dirty wheels: problem.
Thousands of shoes with dirty soles: no problem.

I think that's probably illegal even for craigslist.

I would go find a pile of Dog Shat and step in it with both shoes and then go walk through that museum

This is just a guerilla marketing ploy.

If the chair really was dirty, shouldn't the reaction be "Go to the bathroom and clean them up and then you can enter?"

Savannah is not very wheelchair friendly.  Everything is 200 years old including the sidewalks.

2013-07-11 01:28:18 PM
What kind of jerk-offs are working at this museum? Good grief.

When  dealing with a *profoundly* disabled CHILD, any decent person thinks "I'm going to do anything I can possibly do to make this child happier".

These people are heartless.

2013-07-11 01:31:42 PM
The person I feel sorry for the most in these situations is the lowly staff. If the person who said, "No, you can't come in here with the wheelchair" had said yes, there was most likely a chance of that person getting in trouble with the boss because he/she was not following the rules. Even losing his/her job because of this. But since he/she said no, she got in trouble with the media.

It's a damned if you do, damned if you don't place.

2013-07-11 01:32:52 PM
The museum made a statement saying an employee misinterpreted the rules.

Was she looking at the rules about Razor scooters and skateboards or something?

Oppsoing Views is quickly replacing The Consumerist for one-sided sob-stories that are almost completely contradicted by second and third sites that carry articles about the same story.

So yes, they probably had good cause to ban the girl.

If this hit the local news, the museum's carpets are going be all sorts of farked-up in the next week or so.

"The Haas family is not looking to file a lawsuit against the museum; they just want the story to raise awareness on the importance of accommodating people with disabilities."

Unfortunately, the shysters whose awareness of the issue is raised by this campaign DO want to file ADA lawsuits against the museum, and will.

Apologize to the family.

Fire the employee with extreme prejudice.
Done.

There was no good cause, there was no cause at all.
Maybe you should look at the original story linked within the Opposing Views story.
Or you can just stay ignorant. Your choice.

To All Farkers In the Area Near This Museum,

Please go and visit this museum.  Before you go in, though, please go and walk through some mud.

Thank you.

"The museum staff told the Haas family that they could enter the museum while Lexi was shown a video outside."

Should have accepted; a photo of the tot watching TV alone on the museum's front sidewalk would have been priceless!

Sounds to me like the parents are attention whores. From another article at www.wbtv.com, the father reveals that he was aware of the wheelchair requirements before they arrived:

Haas says his wife lived in Savannah for a short time and the family had done research online and knew that due to limitations, it might be difficult for Lexi to be able to visit the museum, which is housed in a historic home.
