Stay classy, Buckeye fans.

It says much that we Michigan fans don't have the same drive to hate-hate-hate OSU like you guys do for UofM.

Mostly we just pity you and void the butthole of Ohio on game day (lest we end up with a burned out husk of a car when we get out of the game).

I disagree with your analysis of Michigan fans. From my experience, they hate OSU just as much.

Ohio State fans can wear their stuff or have OSU bumper stickers on their car in Ann Arbor and not get assaulted/vandalized.

The reverse is NOT true.

So a kid fighting cancer still has enough of a sense of humor to make it the butt of a joke using his favorite school's rival and you're telling him to stay classy?

Along with 2 more lines of tOSU hate after?

You should take a lesson from this brave tyke and name the sand in your vagina "Buckeyes" before your OBGYN flushes it out for you.

I'm a cancer survivor - I had an ocular melanoma (that's a tumor INSIDE my eye), treated by the nice, competent doctors at the Ocular Oncology unit of the University of Michigan Kellogg Eye Center. I didn't name the tumor "Buckeye". I wish the kid well, but that sort of hate will chew a person up.

As for Columbus, yeah, it's the butthole of Ohio. As for the second part, I had friends who had their car trashed - totaled - while they attended a game. I've attended many games in Ann Arbor, and have yet to see another team's fans mistreated (not saying it has never happened, but it happens frequently and often violently in Columbus). That's not hate, just the facts.

I would tend to agree with you. Just about all of the UM fans I have met are more than decent folks. I personally have no hate towards our rivals to the north.

This guy just reeked of hiprocracy within his own post so I felt the need to point it out. Most fans/alumni know there are bad apples in every base, hell tOSU has FAR more then their share of those, but it's never a reason to bag on them all over the words and actions of a few.

I've even met a few decent Penn State fans!

Dayton has the USAF Museum, which is great, and in the north, you have Cedar Point.... I'll give Ohio that.

Holy shiat, farkers are petty. It was obviously a number thrown out there to show that most people outside of the geographic region (OH/MI) aren't overly concerned about the rivalry that's huge locally. He's not saying they measured the distance or that the fans don't exist elsewhere. Damn.

Yeah, you sure come off classy insulting a 12 year old kid with cancer as if this was some order handed down by the Unified Michigan Fanbase. This kid is 6 years away from even applying to the school, jesus. Both of your fanbases are full of pricks, stop feeling so smug.

If you can say "we Michigan fans don't have the same drive to hate-hate-hate OSU"you should spend some more time on the major UM sports fan forums, especially around OSU games. Your delicate view of the UM Sainthood might get tarnished.

Keep fighting, kid, beat that shiat no matter what you call it.

Well, yes most college football rivalries are local and most people only care about teams in their alma mater's conference/region.  It seems that the only rivalries with any national following are USC/Notre Dame, the Iron Bowl, and Army/Navy.  I assure you, there isn't a lot of passion around the Third Saturday of October up north.

Wonderful! I happy to hear about ANYONE beating cancer and I think it's excellent that you were able to do it with some of the best care available in the world at a fine B1G institution. Still, that has nothing to do with this story or the amount of hate you want to project onto this kid for what amounts to a joke.

I didn't name the tumor "Buckeye". I wish the kid well, but that sort of hate will chew a person up.

Sounds like it is alright. To each their own but I see no reason to get all "stay classy" or assume the kid has "that sort of hate" or any hate for that matter. Seemed more like making light and finding humor in a tough situation to me. I think you need to stop trying to convince people how little UM fans care abut tOSU because you are only succeeding in showing how much you happen to. Everything you've posted here is a projection of your own feelings. That you started with a denial of it just makes it all the more clear.

As for Columbus, yeah, it's the butthole of Ohio.

I'm sure you've spent many a long day in Columbus and have expert knowledge of the locale and that this assessment in no way is tainted by some story or singular incident you've heard or experienced...

As for the second part, I had friends who had their car trashed - totaled - while they attended a game.

...oh wait, never mind. I get that from a stadium of roughly 110,000 people (and prob 50-60K more outside) a handful were arseholes and acted as such. But if condemning an entire city you've most likely never been to more than once or taking a cheap shot at a kid fighting cancer makes you feel better about it then huzzah for you. I would suggest that maybe a little perspective is order though.

I've attended many games in Ann Arbor, and have yet to see another team's fans mistreated (not saying it has never happened, but it happens frequently and often violently in Columbus). That's not hate, just the facts.

Facts based on what? I've been a Buckeyes season ticket holder for 8 years and never have I seen violent acts by tOSU fans. Now just as you half-heartedly admitted above I won't say it never happens since EVERY stadium has these instances, but if it were to occur as "frequently" as your "facts" say it does then I should have seen plenty of it by now.

Just own up that getting clowned by your rivals for the better part of a decade is eating you up a bit and let some of your own actual hate go man. It's not worth it.

Dude.  The stories are legion.  Wear a Michigan cap?  End the night with a cracked skull.  Wear an M sweatshirt?  Get beat up.  Michigan fans who follow the team to away games often say it's just not worth it to go to Columbus.  Dangerous level of--shall we say--lack of sportsmanship.  A friend of mine was a flag-waver in the M band.  An OSU fan ran up to the band (marching to the stadium in Columbus), picked her out (flags forming the edges of the band) and punched her so hard she was knocked out briefly and unable to continue.  The Alumni Society runs a nice tailgate at each away game, a few blocks from the stadium--except for Ohio State, where it's a mile away or more, presumably for safety reasons.  Nothing like it elsewhere.  That includes East Lansing, no great maize and blue fans but not violently anti-Michigan either.  U of M fans go to State, it's no big deal.  Go to Ohio State?  Security is suddenly a big issue.

It's not like the players are showing great class either.  After a big loss at Michigan Stadium, I saw an OSU player in letter jacket decide not to wait for the U of M band to pass by before walking to the team bus--he was going to fight his way through, dang it!  A guy in the crowd tore him out before the band members could clock him with tubas (they were getting ready; it would have been bad because they had seen the player abusing the trombone players ahead of them).  Then the player threatened to beat up an elderly alum that told him not to mess with the band.  Then an OSU coach came over and showed his class with a profane tirade about nothing.

Also, the OSU band is the only one that will not stay after the game to play with the M band.  U of M invites all bands to stay; they won't (or didn't in the '90s, anyway) when all others generally do.

All this is par for the course, and really quite sad.  (Iowa fans, just to pick one example, are awesome, and their band was VERY friendly even after a 40-point loss.)

One classy note, though: After Bo died, the OSU announcer made a point of saying to the Ohio Stadium crowd, "Remember, he was also a Buckeye" (I believe they showed a picture of Bo in an Ohio State shirt from when he was an assistant coach).  That was a nice thing to do.

Having a beer tossed at you by a drunk guy at a bar is a far cry from that guy's claims of "frequent and often violent" acts. It's not just that every school has them but that every school has a LOT more of them when alcohol is added to the mix. Besides I admitted way up the thread that tOSU has WAY more than their share of jerkbag fans. They are a burden the rest of us are just stuck with.

While you are statistically certain to be correct about that happening at Camp Randall as well I can tell you that the one game I attended there in full tOSU regalia the Wisky fans were downright cordial towards me. They even cajoled me to get up and join them in Jump Around after the 3rd quarter. I have nothing bad to say about any Badger fans as such and Camp Randall is an amazing place to watch a game.

Purdue fans were kind of on the mouthy side but that is to be expected when wearing the road team's gear. They never posed any kind of violent threats or anything of the sort. If you can't handle a little trash talk then either leave your colors at home or don't go to away games I always say.

Michigan fans are probably very nice in general but it's hard even for them when you are wearing the Block O in their stadium. Still I felt I was treated rather nicely considering. Being from northern Ohio I have been around a lot of UM fans and amongst individuals things are generally pretty friendly between us and them. What fun would it be without a real rival anyway?

The best experience I have had in my B1G travels would have to with Indiana fans, at least in football. They seem almost happy to have you visit their stadium and it happens to be one of the more beautiful places to take in a game in the fall. I hear they are a little more rowdy come basketball season but on the football side they are the nicest people I have watched a game with as a road fan so far.

Penn State fans have the worst rep amongst the B1G supporters but I have yet to attend a game there so I will not make any assumptions about the experience. The PSU fans I have met have been very decent people for the most part.

Truly awful what happened to your color guard friend. I would hope the idiot that hit her was properly punished for it but I'm sure he just ran into the crowd and got off scott free. Those kind of things are a shame but tOSU's band has stories like that happening to them at away games as well. People are idiots sometimes.

I'm not going to go point for point on any of that nor do I doubt any of those kind of things have happened. But I say again, I have been to well over 70 home games at tOSU and have seen plenty of away fans get nothing more than trash talk and literally hundreds of maize and blue clad fans walk around without "cracked skulls" or "getting beat up". Most stories are usually just that, stories. I am speaking from experience. Actual, live, first hand experience. While bad things do tend to happen when sports and alcohol are mixed something tells me many of your legion of Tales of Michigan Woe from the South may just be a bit exaggerated otherwise someone like myself who has been there dozens of times would have had to have bumped into some of that by now. Take it for what you will.

I also could not tell you why TBDBITL does not hang around after games in the Big House. I can tell you that before every Michigan game at the Shoe our band welcomes UM by forming "M" at the 50 and playing Hail to the Victors. For whatever that is worth to you I find it pretty classy for them to from a giant block M and play their rival's fight song on their own field. The UM band also attends the pregame Skull Secession and plays alongside TBDBITL before all UM-tOSU games. Something tells me there isn't much hate between the two bands and maybe there are other reasons why they decline playing after games up north. Again, take that for what you will.

As I said in one of the redlit threads for this, good for the kid.  I hope he has a complete recovery. If this is what it takes to beat cancer, then yeah, f*** Michigan.  Live a good life, kid.

/still don't like that school in Ohio at all

mjbok: lacydog: their 3-story sex toy stores

I live in Columbus (and love it), but where is this?

The Garden is on High Street. Right next to it is a BDSM-themed spinoff called The Chamber. There's also a head shop nearby called The Joint that's run by the same company. I visited these places once when I visited CBus for a concert (Muse).

the1hatman: suburbanguy:  /Stop calling it tOSU. It's OSU. We think all of you who do that are douches.

skankboy: suburbanguy: /Stop calling it tOSU. It's OSU. We think all of you who do that are douches.

Motion seconded.

Exactly why some of us have embraced it my friends. Of course it's a douchey thing to say but for every "DRRR why do they have to say THEEEE Ohio State...?" there is one of us who figures, screw it! Might as well give them a reason to hate on it so much. Also it was noted in the CFB threads here many moons ago that:

OSU = Oregon State
oSu = Oklahoma State
tOSU = Ohio State

Exactly, douchebag. Only a moron makes it a point to stress THE least important word in the name of their alma mater. And nobody's confusing Ohio State with Oregon or Oklahoma State in an Ohio State thread...

tampaflacouple: most of us that have or have had cancer are not the media whores that wear pink ribbons and put themselves out there for everyone to Oh and Ah over.

Hell I was told 3 times I was going to die from my cancer

Why does it always have to be about you?

Does cancer miss 25-yard field goals too?
