Actually, the guys on the afternoon sports show here in Pittsburgh (93.7 The Fan) were talking about how quite a few players on the Dodgers don't like the guy because of the way he acts off the field.  It came up during a conversation as to whether or not he should be in the All Star Game.

And you shouldn't get pity, but not because of the titles. The Giants aren't dead yet, though they're certainly on the cart.

Dodgers will come back to Earth once Puig either cools off (he's finally sub-.400 after last night) or someone injures him for his dickish attitude.

D'backs pitching is a gigantic pile of crap.

The Rockies and Padres are... well, the Rockies and the Padres.

Puig didn't know who he was. Gonzales played when he was a kid living in info-controlled Cuba. Apparently, after McGuire explained who Gonzo was Puig talked to him. Then Gonzo went on the air and biatched about how Puig didn't kiss his rings or something. Gonzales comes off worse than Puig in this one.

Gibson said he liked the way Puig plays, sees a lot of the way he played in the kid. That's all the endorsement I need for Puig. Loved Gibby.

They started off really poorly and were ravaged by injuries. They've won 17 of 20 or something like that. Hottest team in the league with the most exciting new player and the best pitcher. Plenty to be happy about.

The Giants desperately miss Angel Pagan, their starting rotation has worn thin, and Pablo Sandoval looks like he weighs 400 pounds.  And Jeff Francoeur isn't going to help any of those things.

As for Puig -- he's a 22 year old Cuban kid who wouldn't know Luis Gonzalez from Gonzo the Muppet.  He's raw, and doesn't know the culture of major league baseball, but he's a natural athlete with all the tools, and the Dodger coaches will straighten him out on the rules of being in the MLB.

Gonzalez I have little sympathy for.  He spent a year with the Dodgers after Arizona let him go, and is mainly remembered, if at all, as being kind of a jerk.  He complained a lot that Andre Ethier, Matt Kemp, and the other young players weren't respectful enough of him and Jeff Kemp, contributed to the clubhouse disharmony, and was gone the next season.

And, the Dodgers' recent resurgence has as least as much to do with Hanley Ramirez hitting over .400 since he got off the DL as it does with Puig.
Also, a pretty good starting rotation, now augmented by Nolasco, should help keep them in the race now that they've crawled back into contention.

That's horse manure.  I've been living in the bowels of the beast for over 50 years, and I've never seen L.A., or any city I've ever been in, turn anyone into an arsehole who wasn't already one.  You are what you are.  And whenever I get the notion that people in L.A. are fundamentally different than anybody else, I just go back to New England.  Guess what -- it's as full of assholes as Los Angeles, it just has more cows.

No, it's more because it isn't New York, or L.A., or San Francisco, Phoenix, Boston or anywhere else.  It's everywhere and it's everybody.  Want to know where the assholes are?  Take a tour of the Fark threads and you'll see they're everywhere from Peru to Pakistan.  You can't point a finger at anyone, or anywhere else, without looking in a mirror and pointing there, too.
It's a big, wide, wonderful world of assholes, Troc.  And we can't do anything about it but try to get along with each other.  You can't really change the world all by yourself...but you can set a good example.

My favorite is the Washington Nationals.

Last year, when the powers that be shut down Strausburg, the reasoning was the team is so good, it is possible to make the playoffs for the next 10 years.

Now they are floating right around the .500 mark, and have not been playing very well.

That one just absolutely boggled the mind. If they knew he was gonna be on an inning count, why not just sit him until May 15th, then you can get the benefit of his innings being postseason innings, which by my calculation are more important than regular season innings. Or, since it was clear by about June 1st that they were going to the playoffs, sit him down then and then get him re-started.

The decision to self sabotage their own season, which was apparently sanctioned by everyone in the owners and front offices group, is wholly unfathomable to me. Farking idiots.

While I might have exaggerated a touch about the ring kissing thing, Gonzo is known around LA as a big whiner. After he got benched for Kemp he went on the local radio shows and complained he wasn't getting enough respect.

If you're gonna call people names at least know what the fark you're talking about. Or go over to the politics tab, I'm sure Tatsuma, Bevets, tenpoundsofcheese, and skinnyhead could use another like minded friend.

So he's like every sports writer out there that writes for a team you don't like? Fair enough. While its slightly different, I can stand Kruk and Kuip, the Giants broadcast team (or used to be). Jon Miller is OK though.

Since the biatching in the interview jives with what I remember about Gonzales in LA, I'm inclined to believe Plaschke. He put the douche in dbags.

Plaschke doesn't write for the Dodgers -- he writes for the L.A. Times.  And my own earlier post related the same story about Luis Gonzalez and his troubles in L.A. -- it's well known here.  And for the record, though I'm a Dodger fan, I don't dislike ANY team, even the Giants.  (I'm too old for that kind of thing.)
Nor am I naive enough to think there is any material difference between the fans in different cities -- I've been all over, and there are jerks everywhere, and nice people everywhere.
And AT&T Park is lovely, even when it's full of Giant fans -- such an improvement over the Stick.

You don't find the rivalry aspect of the game exciting? Other that rooting for "your" team, i find rooting against the rivals just as fun. I'm not some douchebag hater who screams at other people but I just about fell into a schadenfreude induced coma when Flacco completed that pass over the bronco safety in the last minute to tie a playoff game. Conversely, watching the Giants win 2 of the last 3 has sucked hard.

You're absolutely right about fans of every team, I've been at Raider games and been embarrassed to be rooting for them but when i took my wife to her first NFL game in the black hole we had a great time due to all the love from people. Say what you want about Raider fan, its one of the safer stadiums to watch a game at statistically. In the top 1/3 of the league. Before you ask, can't find that source. Remember that bit thrown out while listening to local radio in Oakland when I lived there. Maybe its so safe because opposing fans are afraid to come.

And AT&T park is the best ball park I've ever been to. Seen more games there than any other park I believe.

Barael's Blade: You don't find the rivalry aspect of the game exciting? Other that rooting for "your" team, i find rooting against the rivals just as fun.

Not really.  At least not any more.  I used to be able to whip up a righteous indignation whenever the Reds were in town (back when they were in the Dodgers' division) and especially when Pete Rose was at bat, but nowadays I just don't have the same desire to see other teams (or their fans) suffer, no matter how much they might objectively deserve it.  I honestly don't know whether that's maturity or just declining energy.

CSB:  I was at Dodger stadium, back in the 70's, when Rose got one of his "landmark" hits -- don't remember which one, 2000, 2500, or something like that.  The Dodgers and Reds had engaged in a bench clearing brawl a couple of weeks earlier in Cincy, and Rose had been in the middle of it.  So, the fans were really on him, booing loudly when he came to bat.  When he got the hit (a single, of course) and the announcer noted the landmark, the entire Dodger Stadium crown rose to its feet and gave him a standing ovation.  Rose seemed taken aback, then acknowledged the cheers with a cap wave.
The next time he came to bat, the crowd booed louder than ever, and Rose just broke up laughing.
Maybe those were just more civilized days, but that's the kind of thing that made the game special to me.

And you're right about the Phone Booth -- it's the stadium that San Francisco owed the Giants, especially after the way the city treated Horace Stoneham, sticking the team in that awful location in Candlestick.
Peace out.
