Better go visit the Florida Keys while they are still there.

I for one am going to be devastated by the loss of Gay Head Lighthouse. Where will I get all my head?

Downtown San Francisco is built on landfill so it'd be just going back to nature. Other than that it's all bullshiat because the sea level is not raising.

San Fransisco? Florida? Maryland? New York City? Massachusetts? Meh. Bunch of homo-liberal-commie-mexicans.

I fail to see how this affects real America.

"I met a traveller from an antique land
Who said: "Two vast and trunkless legs of stone
Stand in the desert. Near them on the sand,
Half sunk, a shattered visage lies, whose frown
And wrinkled lip and sneer of cold command
Tell that its sculptor well those passions read
Which yet survive, stamped on these lifeless things,
The hand that mocked them and the heart that fed.
And on the pedestal these words appear:
`My name is Ozymandias, King of Kings:
Look on my works, ye mighty, and despair!'
Nothing beside remains. Round the decay
Of that colossal wreck, boundless and bare,
The lone and level sands stretch far away".

Percy Shelley

It IS, in fact, rising, though...

We are a stupid, ignorant, greedy species.

We are the only species that could prevent our extinction, but instead will cause it.

This is going to be a crapy next 50 years.

Gay Head Lighthouse

Really? Nobody hopped on that one, so to speak?

2013-07-11 10:20:10 AM
On the one hand, I work in Annapolis. On the other, I live just south of it, about 4 feet above sea level and - for now - 1/4 mile from the water. I can probably find a new job, but my house will be waterfront, so I say, "Bring it on!"

You can probably get one cheap after its been flooded.

Also, the article sounds like a crappy Roland Emmerich film.

I don't care. I really don't care anymore. Let it all get swamped. People will move further inland and get over it. Luckily this will be after i'm dead and gone and i won't have to hear the whining.

2013-07-11 10:23:47 AM
That's alright.   There'll be another media-induced global cooling scare in another 15-30 years which will take care of that problem for you.

Silly humans building cities and monuments without much foresight that the sea might reclaim its own thousands of years down the road

IIRC warmer climate means longer growing seasons many parts of the world

Plant Rights Activist: Nation =/= State

[quizzicaldog.jpg]

The headline doesn't state "National landmarks", just "Nation's landmarks", or "landmarks of the nation". Considering they are in the nation, the verbiage is correct.

2013-07-11 10:27:27 AM
Whatever.  I'm looking at beachfront property pretty soon and I don't even have to move.

2013-07-11 10:27:35 AM
Oh dear God, downtown Annapolis is not "regularly flooded by high tides."  It did flood several years back when a hurricane came up the Chesapeake Bay during a high tide, with the winds in just the right direction to push waters up toward Annapolis and Baltimore.  And the 55" the article claims is the extreme possibility.  But worst of all, WHERE'S NEW ORLEANS ON THIS LIST?  It's an outrage, an outrage, I say!

/Also, as a non-rich non-bluenose, I really don't care if Martha's Vineyard completely sinks beneath the waves.  Doesn't seem like much of a loss.  Actually, most of these don't seem like much of a loss.  More of a silver lining, actually.
//Except for Annapolis, of course.

Maybe at that time the UN could just seal off the US borders, drop in some high-capacity magazines and firearms and OxyContin, and these stupid redneck farkers could just cold kill each other to their hearts content, until only one inbred hick is left, who will promptly get drunk on Natty Light and blow his own goddamn head off cleaning his gun.

We'll know it's serious when the media lets us build an industrial solution to lower the CO2 content of the atmosphere, instead of demanding monetary and/or human sacrifice to appease the gods of climate modeling.

Remember when Metallica wrote that song about The Battery? The song reveals little known facts about Castle Clinton. For instance, they call it the battery because they fried and packaged seafood there.

The flaw in your plan is that they already have high-capacity magazines and firearms.

Perhaps the scenario should be reversed, seal the UN off and drop in firearms and high capacity magazines. At the very least, it would be an interesting lab experiment.

2013-07-11 10:32:39 AM
Two things - Give me a statistically significant sample set to determine if global warming/oceans rising is actually taking place.  If it is taking place, I will have some great beachfront property in SW Oklahoma by the end of the century...

Oh, yea, witches.

Highland Light figured out how to save itself from certain death years ago*. If Gay Head can't do the same, then it's the Vineyard's own damn fault.

Hell, Old Town Alexandria just south of DC floods every time there's a severe rain.  It's like you see a meteorologist with a ruler every time it snows, here it's a meteorologist showing sandbagging every time it rains.  Bad, bad Potomac.
/Shocking news: port cities flood occasionally.
