With the injury, I don't think Tiger will be in the hunt on Sunday.

Sort of shocked that Adam Scott isn't given better odds considering he could have won it last year...you know "could have" if he didn't collapse like a black woman in church.

They'll see a lot of action on Scott and Justin Rose at 20-1, and they can't both win, so "woohoo!" for the house.

It's the Open Championship not the British Open.  You don't call the Masters, the American Masters.

Let me get $10 on Oosthuizen at 40-1, a sentimental $5 on Tom Watson, and a $5 hedge on The Field at 8-1.

wow....i told this story in the US Open thread.....after Tiger's round ended, and while ol' whats his nuts and Jason Day and the other dude with the crazy pants were at about, ohhhh, 12 or 13, I ran out to the store.  on the radio, the hosts were debating this precise topic:  would tiger be the favorite at the Open?

the guy said something like, "he has to be.  yes, today marks 5 years since his last major win, period [the memorable 2008 playoff v Mediate] but the books are so afraid of lsoing money on him when he does win, he has to be the favorite..."

Chill out there, Nigel.

There's also a US Open Championship.

There's also a Masters golf tournament in Australia, doesn't mean you start calling the Masters in Augusta the American Masters

Gonz: a sentimental $5 on Tom Watson

that freaking putt from what, 2009, 2010?  oh tom, you were so damn close!  and then you left a winning 8 foot put about four godamn feet short.

how anticlimactic was that?

That was the worst putt ever struck by someone who isn't on my family tree.  Or Scott Hoch.

That playoff is the most agonizing 4 holes of golf I've ever watched. I like Stewart Cink, and I'll still never forgive him for that.

Tiger looked lost at the US Open and hasn't been able to string two good rounds together with anything resembling consistency for a long time now....I won't say he's done,(one can never bet against him, especially in majors) but he has a long climb back to the peak.

/threadjack, but have you seen the new ESPN Body issue with Gary Player....dude is 77 and not at all afraid to flaunt his nakedness...and honestly, doesn't look too bad for somebody approaching 80!

yeah, it was bad.  the moment he struck it it was like DUDE WHAT ARE YOU DOING.  I hate to be all Johnny Miller, but....that was awful.  that would have been a generational sports story if he clowns mouthed it.  intead, he left it seriously, 3-4 feet short.  just awful.

I was watching with two good friends and their father, who was obviously rooting harder than any of us for Watson to hole it.  As soon as it came off the putter the collective "ugh" from the room was immediate.  He was pretty unlucky his approach rolled through the green though.

He's won 4 times this year and got screwed at the Masters. If he doesn't hit that pin and get kicked back into the water, who knows what happens

Agreed. That was probably the most glued to my TV for a golf tourney I have ever been.

Then he hit that putt and it was like having sex with some hot chick and right before you're about to cum, she pulls a mask off to unviel you've actually been banging someone who's face has been chewed on by rats.

This. It's amazing how many people don't realize that bookies' odds don't reflect their opinion on the chances of winning, they reflect the action they expect to attract.

He didn't get screwed at the Masters, that's just part of the game. Sometimes you can hit a perfect shot and get a bad bounce, or hit a crappy shot and get a good bounce. Then there's the matter of moving a "loose impediment" and standing by with a shiat eating grin on your face knowing that it's cheating but won't get called for it. I lost all respect for him after that. That, and the fact that he does that fist pumping crap when things are going his way and looks like he's just smelled a fart when they're not.

You mean at a major, right? Because he has won 4 PGA tournaments this season. He's unquestionably the best golfer this year so far.

Fine he was a little bad luck away from possibly winning the Masters. Happy?

Tiger doesn't care about non-majors, neither should you. How many non majors did Jack win? Hell if I know. But I do know 18 = GOAT

He's actually won 5 tournaments this year, but he's also missed one cut and had a T-4 at the Masters (which he could/should have been DQ'ed).....beyond that he's T-32 or worse in four or five other tournaments....as I said, he's been pretty inconsistent this year.  And again, I would never doubt that he can win, but these days, I'm just not surprised if he doesn't.

Yeah. that other guy who has won more tournaments than woods in the last year and has a higher ranking should be the favorite. But I forget his name.

Let's see.... most wins this year, check. Leading the money list and fedex cup, check. World rank #1 by a wide margin, check. Still though, quite generous of you to not say he's 'done'.

Hoping Graham DeLeat does well in his first major, fellow Saskatchewan ex-pat! 5 top 10's this year, would be nice to see him slay it. I know one thing for sure the wind wont phase him.
