Thanks expert food person.

My lobster was alive right up to the point when he wasn't.

Yes and no. Until you raise the pot lid you dont know if it is alive or dead

Same goes for crawfish.

[from a court stenographer's notes:]
Q: So, then it is possible that the patient was alive when you began the autopsy?
A: No.
Q: How can you be so sure, Doctor?
A: Because his brain was sitting on my desk in a jar.
Q: But could the patient have still been alive, nevertheless?
A: Yes, it is possible that he could have been alive and practicing law somewhere.

I put a wooden skewer through the tail before I drop them into the steamer, that keeps the tail straight while it cooks. Lest I be accused of animal cruelty, I always murder them first by splitting the head with a chefs knife.

Are we supposed to eat undead lobsters or something?  No way, they probably taste too gamey...

I look for that expression of panic and terror on its little lobster-face.  If i think it died in its sleep, I don't eat it.

"Alive when killed"?  That's meaningless.  Anything alive that's been killed is alive up to the moment when it's killed.  Once something's killed, you can't kill it again.

Unless we're talking ZOMBIE LOBSTERS!

2013-07-10 02:28:31 PM
It's the same with crawfish.

...watch out fo' dey straight tails.

My wife and I don't eat seabugs of any kind, because, frankly, we're better than you people.

I also don't own a TeeVee and I use a non-ironic rotary phone.

Pretty much King Sh*T of F*ck Island over here.

Lobster is just almost never worth it.  5 cracks, 10 bites and you're done, unless you like fiddlin' around with the little legs.  Get a steak, though it is admittedly much more difficult to find a boiling pot large enough for a cow.  Also horrifying.

My response the first time I ate lobster was literally, "That's it? That's what all the fuss is about?" I was on a cruise, and our server asked if we wanted any lobster seconds. The table unanimously said, "No, but we'd like more of that delicious beef wellington!"

I think we should rename Lobsters, and call them Sea Cockroaches. That way, people will be less upset about killing them, and the demand will drop for them, making them cheaper.

You have to get it fresh, on the coast, somewhere north of Cape Cod.  I don't know why cold-water lobster from Maine tastes so much better than any other variety, but it does.

Don't they just use the dead before cooked lobsters for lobster rolls at stores and restaurants. Mayo it up a bit and no one knows... unless they end up shiatting for a day or two straight.

You need to keep trying.

I feel your pain tho - bad lobster is possibly the worst food you can eat.
Good lobster is pure heaven.

Its kinda like Vegas. You might lose 9/10 times, but damn its sweet when you actually hit.

Seriously tho, I'm far from a foodie or anything like that.  But the flavor of a lobster cooked alive or a few seconds after being killed is completely different from the crap you get at most restaurants.
