I think he has done a great job getting nothing done. USA! USA! USA! Good thing the redrawn district lines ensure the Republicans will hold the house for a long time.

fark that.  He is surely right of center.  How far right is an issue we could discuss.  But it is indisputable that to his left is the center and to his right are the tea baggers.  He has two options: move to the center, join with some democrats, go down in history as a great compromiser that got sweeping legislation through, and then man-up for the inevitable primary challenge.  Or join with the whack jobs to his right, get nothing done, go down in history as either a speaker that got nothing done or a great obstructionist, and have a job next year.  It's his choice, and I do not feel sorry for him for the path he's chosen.  Rather, I feel sorry for the country that has been taken down this path by a minority of the majority.

By purely popular vote, Boehner is being taken by a minority of the minority.

Always happy to help ^_^

You would think at this point, he'd just suck it up and take on the primary fight. I mean hell, if he can beat the crap out primary challenge, he's a shoe in for victory anyway.

He has all ready made that choice and it is the right hand path he has chosen. Nothing will get done, what people still have yet to realize that the reason the Republicans are eating themselves is because President Obama refuses to give them anymore.

President Obama looks like a lame duck, and it is only been eight months since he was re-elected, because after sequestering was taken care off he publicly stated he could not work with the House Republicans and has walked away from getting any legislation done.

He is not willing to compromise any further then he all ready has. His the Republicans have pushed the President to the point that there is literally nothing he can or will compromise on. There are no more concessions that the President will give them.

The only question America is are you going to let this continue? Do we the people want a Republican controlled House that can't even bring to a vote bills written by fellow Republicans? Or have we had enough? Sure the Democrats are not the best and you may disagree with their social policies, but are you willing to sacrifice this opportunity to break the deadlock in congress and finally get a House of Representatives that can bring bills to the table that can get this economy moving again. Because let's face it that is the biggest concern, threat, and headache that us poor and middle class Americans have right now. Gay marriage, abortion rights, immigration shouldn't matter this coming mid-term election, what should matter is the economy and JOBS, JOBS, JOBS.

I feel pity for the Republican leadership. Democrats have dealt with having widely varying positions within the party for years. Republicans have been used to having members in lock-step with the leadership. Sure there was dissection but it didn't play out during votes.

Now the fringe that they used to keep in line with the occasional bone (suppress the gays here, restrict abortions there) has discovered that if they're loud and stubborn enough they can throw everything off balance and get a lot of attention.

It'll be interesting to see if the older leadership can regain control before the fringe players start gaining actual leadership positions instead of just talking a lot. 2014 will probably seal things one way or another.

They are preparing to attack again in the hopes of (get this) passing some version of the twice failed Ryan budget AND to privatize SS in exchange for a debt ceiling increase(s).

They continue to impede any progress and suffer no consequences because most Americans think the world's super power should be handled like the simplistic household budget that they understand.

Nope, you must be thinking of someone else.

And if you're snarkily trying to apologize for Republicans, name for me a few Republicans who have spoken out against right-wing extremism AND remained in the good graces of the base and party leadership.

AMonkey'sUncle: "retarded cats"

You said retarded twice.

I live in a house in four cats (five at the time of this story,) and one dog, a Corgi. One day, I decided to mess with the dog. I stood in the basement at the base of the stairs, and started barking up the stairs. The dog, who is excitable but hardly bright, starts running between the front and back door, yapping her head off and trying to identify the source of the intruder. Meanwhile, two of the cats slowly appear at the top of the stairs and look down at me with the best "WTF are you doing?" faces man may ever see on a cat.

He will never be allowed to be a great compromiser.  If he brings the Senate immigration bill to the floor, the Tea Partiers will revolt and call for a vote of no confidence in the Speaker.  The Democrats will happily vote against Boehner which means that if just 16 Republicans vote against him, he's just a congressman from Ohio again and we end up with Speaker Derpenstein from Alabama.

He's in this to save his job, pure and simple.

I think there's a case to be made for the idea that cats are deeply and profoundly stupid. Most of our assumption of their intellect (craftiness, aloofness, self-possession, independence) is attributable to physical features, like their expression, sense of balance, and apparent cleanliness (though licking yourself doesn't exactly render you clean). Take away what we attribute to them and you wind up with an animal who isn't smart enough to show basic awareness of what's happening around him, easily bewildered, skittish, and not smart enough to even be territorial.

Now, don't get me wrong; no one's asking any dog to join Mensa. I have seen some DAMN stupid dogs. But I have never met a smart cat. Not trying to start a cats vs. dogs here, either. I've owned both and love them both.

But there's a special kind of stupid that fools people into thinking it's smart. It tricks people into believing that gazing off into space like a slack-jawed idiot is somehow a sign of depth and intellect. It makes derpy observations and basks in the fact that otherwise intelligent people are treating it like a philosopher king. It's too stupid to know that it isn't actually smart, but it looks smart to the people around it. No one really has the heart to admit what a moron it is.

Sometimes, it even gets elected to Congress.
