I love the fact that the official North Korean website has a "shop" link.

It's probably the one in China or Japan, which the gentleman visited as a tourist.

completely off topic.

Do you actually, honestly, in 2013, judge webpages by who they are owned by, rather than the content of the actual page?

I'm being very serious. I've read a million Farkers whine about a pretty great io9.com article they refuse to read, just on principle, because that are JUST THAT SO COOL THEY CAN'T CLICK ON THAT LINK.

so tell me. Are you that guy? Are you really THAT cool?

It's a forced retirement. New job doesn't allow enough time or adequate Internet access. :-(

Let me guess though, you're PRESERVING THE OLD INTERNET!

2013-07-10 09:58:22 AM
Let me save you the argument:

"IO9 and Gawker, they break all my apparently antiquited and moody software that I have speciifically designed for hours so it will not display the horrid ads that I might be exposed to, should I go to one of those sites! Because that is horrible! I would rather never read free entertainment than be subjected to things that might my destroy my 386 back in the day! Oh no! I'm a cautious browser on this internet. You won't catch me clicking on websites that try to profit!"

Honestly, I enjoy Kotaku and Gawker. Then again, it seems I'm always at odds with the "new Fark". I hit the net in 1993 at the age of 9. My formative years were spent on IRC, telnet (later ran an Ack!Mud with a friend in early teens with 20-30 people online any time of day), and reading about He Man Ate My Balls! (or Mr. T) and enjoying the fact that I could change the background of a geocities site with # codes.

Back then internet posters and their posts (back in my DAY!!! /onionbelt) were a lot more "rugged", I'll say. Like, actual human beings with balls and intelligence and at least some sense of communitas behind it all. Now it's honestly 50% sissies crying about the hyphenated-oppressed kyriarchy male gaze culture, 40% alts and trolls with average intelligence or worse, and 10% legit posters who are interesting and have enough creativity to add something funny or insightful.

Incidentally, 90% of Fark can't stand Gawker, heavy metal that features harsh vocals and / or doesn't talk about wizards and dragons with soaring wanking guitars, any criticism of "progressivism" at all (hint: your side isn't absolutely correct about everything), criticism of bronies (hey, they're cool people who know how to rebel against society), or anything remotely masculine (traditional "gendered" man-world).

It's getting pretty annoying, reminding me of the sanctimonious sashaying around at Reddit more and more.

At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

The sad part is that if I am able to parse your rhetoric correctly, I might actually agree with you.

Well, the important thing is that you've found a way to feel superior.

Gawker sites occasionally have decent content but they (especially Gizmodo) are so horribly social-media obsessed that reading their articles is like eating baked potato chips. The flavor's there, but it's so empty and superior because of that emptiness that who gives a crap?

I say this as a hardcore metalhead, but metal is a genre of music for farking nerds. The more seriously they take it, the more hilarious it is. You can like Dragonforce, Powerglove, Mastodon, Electric Wizard, and Burzum all at once, and you're going to have to accept that most of the music is about wizards, dragons, demons, or blood. Incidentally, I've been meaning to carry around a chunk of puppet skull, tell people it's Dr. Teeth after he blew his brains out because I'm just  that deep in with Electric Mayhem.

Progressivism and its connected groups can be wishy-washy, overly idealistic, and sometimes batshiat insane. However, in general, compared to the discourse offered by the modern conservative branch of American politics, they are almost universally more cogent, moral, and sane.

Bronies can be socially awkward, but I can appreciate groups of socially awkward people overcoming or dealing with their awkwardness and getting together with common interests to tie them together. They can seem oversaturated and annoying, but guess what? What's what nerds like me feel about professional sports most of the YEAR.

I lift weights, used to drink good whisky, and watch startling amounts of pornography. I also know that having a penis doesn't require doing those things, and that there's nothing wrong with bucking the trends of conventional gender roles. I won't call you a meathead as long as you don't call people pussies for doing things you think they "shouldn't" because of their sex. Except drink flavored Smirnoff. Man or woman, I'll call you a pussy if you drink any liquor called "pink sherbert." That's not vodka, that's a shnapps that's ashamed of itself.

Did I miss anything, Captain Persecuted?

Yes. Gawker's entire MO is to copy/paste content from other websites while adding nothing new to the content. It often resorts to sensationalistic headlines dislodged from reality to boost ad revenue. It has no problem blatantly lying and resorting to the worst of yellow journalism to get clicks. It is infamous for contributing absolutely nothing positive to the internet.
Fark is partnered with this shiatfest, as there's no other reason to grant so many links to the Gawker Network as it serves the same purpose as Fark in a significantly inferior way.

As to whether I'm cool or not. Well, I did link a Haunter image earlier so it's pretty clear that I am.
