Police arrested Reynolds in the movie theater lobby.

"(Reynold's behavior) will not be tolerated in Bryan. It is an offensive gesture. It alarmed people and we took the appropriate actions," said Kelley McKethan, a Bryan police department spokesperson.
I love my kids, and it saddens me greatly that they will never know a US that had freedom of speech, freedom of travel, due process and no zero tolerance policies.

"It was dark and nobody could really tell especially if you were in the back and you just see a guy going 'tank tank tank,'" said Caroline Morales, one of the people in the theater Friday night. "The rumor quickly spread that it was a tank and everyone is rushing to the exit quickly. We couldn't have got out if we wanted to because tanks have treads."

No, it's not.  It's not even remotely similar.  There is no way in the world he could have possibly expected that going "pew pew pew" with his fingerbangers would cause a panic.

So, while attending a movie with extreme graphic violence, including a woman getting her hand cut off and bodies raining down hundreds of feet after being blown to hell with machine guns, someone making gun fingers gets arrested.

But hey, movies and music have no effect on violence, just people making gun fingers.

Also, it's all theater, and getting more blatant as the years roll along. Yes, keep crusading against abortion rights, keep stirring up controversy and manufacturing situations like the gay rights blockade to keep people outraged in a different direction.

Carefully control the crime statistics and use every chance to enforce even more draconian laws on the people, be it terrorism, mass murder, or what have you.

And the worst part is, we all play along, pretending that the news and political drama aren't there merely as the distraction while the men with money get their way. And yet, it's called domestic terrorism and derp if you agitate against it. My what a docile and obedient republic we are. Perhaps it's Stockholm syndrome on a grand scale.

People get offended over anything and everything.  Point a finger, eat a pastry, draw a picture.  It doesn't matter what you do.  Someone will get offended or scared and you must be punished.

Today I made a joke about British food.  My boss heard, and chastised me for it.  I expect to get hauled before HR tomorrow and written up.  Why?  Because I was "making jokes about someone's nationality".  That's his exact words.  No I wasn't.  I was joking about British food.  I was doing a comparison of this American phenomenon of deep frying everything under the sun and comparing it some of the horrible choices in British cuisine.

I should wear army fatigues to work tomorrow.

/but then I'd have to update my resume

I hate crap like this.  On the one hand this should be protected by the 1st Amendment and at worst the guy should have been asked by the theater to leave and possible get sued to cover the cost of the tickets for those who fled.  On the other hand, the guy is a serious asshole and deserves a serious beat down for has asshattery.  Part of me kind of wishes that some good samaritan had in the dim light mistaken his finger for a real gun and put bullet into him.

Just because you can exercise your 1st Amendment Right does not always mean that you should.  This was clearly one of those times.

Its ok to yell fire in a crowded theater if there is a fire in a crowded theater.

Similarly, its ok to pretend you are making a valid point, as no one of consequence is ever going to take you seriously.

Similarly, it is ok to encapsulate everything into a worst case scenario and give up all our personal freedoms in exchange for a fairy tale that protects us from all the evil world.
We are all going to die some day, probably now from a guy shooting us with his finger or a "terrorist" shooting us for real, but from a some mundane reason that can only be traced back to our life choices.
Pew! Pew!

A Texan friend of mine prefers the phrase "shooting the bird." It means the same thing, but it sounds so much worse...

I'm done...the post upthread with Mr. Rogers giving the double finger pretty much sums up my outlook on life at the moment.

I kind of wonder if the charges would be more or less serious if he would have made the "gestures" with his Johnson. Just whip it out and start choo choo chooing. Probably would have been a different kind of story, but would make the mugshot even funnier.

This...

In Texas they go to doctor right after the execution.  That's their chance to have a mental evaluation.  Not surprisingly they typically pass...most likely due to the brevity of their responses to questions.

Wow I didn't expect Indiana to come up ahead. You're right Texas is 30th src

There's also percent ownership, guns per capita, raw numbers owned. . . all tell a different story.

I've lived in my share of states and overall, "meh, it's a gun" goes to pennsylvania, which surprised the hell out of me.

"It was dark and nobody could really tell especially if you were in the back and you just see a guy going 'choo choo choo,'" said Caroline Morales, one of the people in the theater Friday night. "The rumor quickly spread that it was a gun and everyone is rushing to the exit quickly. We couldn't have got out if we wanted to."

"Choo choo choo"? "CHOO CHOO CHOO"? What the hell kind of gun makes the sound "choo choo choo"? I've shot rifles, shotguns and handguns and I've never heard one that makes a sound that even remotely resembles the onomatopoeia "choo choo choo". WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH YOU PEOPLE? ARE YOU ALL INSANE?

It's possible to recognize that he's both exercising his 1st Amendment rights and that he's using poor judgement in doing so. I'm always a fan of consequences for poor judgement. So how about a small caliber shot to the leg rather than a large caliber shot to the torso as a nice compromise?

OgreMagi: People get offended over anything and everything.

Gun hand gestures are a gateway gesture, they lead to gun shaped pop tarts, gun shaped paper cutouts, and god save us all, Assault high capacity magazine clip things that are dangerous to someone.

I'll bet CIA wiretapping and a TSA cavity search are the reason they got this violent offender off the streets.

No, it's not.  It's not even remotely similar.  There is no way in the world he could have possibly expected that going "pew pew pew" with his fingerbangers would cause a panic.

How about if he had been saying "Aurora" at the same time?

Poor taste? Yes! Arrest-able not really unless he shouted "I have a gun!" But that didn't stop these cops.

Just watched that movie last night on the recommendation of some Farkers in a recent thread. Pretty good. I liked "Red" better, though. Up next: the "A-Team" movie.

Even though it didn't do as well as expected, I loved the "A-Team" movie.  It captured most of the essence of the TV show.

Ok, a couple of things from the article that would have worried me. First, this is a grown-farking man playing guns by himself in a movie theater. It probably wouldn't have made me panic, maybe a little nervous, but definitely annoyed. Someone should have just asked him to stop, and that would have hopefully been the end of it.

Coming from the management point of view, he was driving customers away, that should also call for his removal. They would probably be ok with losing one weirdo customer as opposed to many less-annoying customers.

Also, just last year, we had a terrifying shooting inside of a theater, even though I think no one should be arrested for making a gun with their hand, this guy shows a great lack of sensitivity. Show some respect, and realize that even pretending to shoot an imaginary gun in a theater is pretty offensive right now. This guy should have definitely been kicked out of the theater for being annoying and creepy, but not arrested.
