They mean wearing the same style constantly and over-brushing, silly subby.

There is nothing new in that article. Heat has always been considered damaging. Constant manipulation has always been damaging. The only thing they missed was the actual name for the hair loss from constantly wearing the same tension style: traction alopecia.

I went through a phase where I wanted somewhat long hair (really I was a broke college student who had to choose between eating or a haircut, and eating always won) but my hair never stayed flat so I would wear a hat of some kind all day long to keep it from going crazy.

I then started to notice a lot more hair in my shower drain. My own hair. I got a haircut soon after and rarely wear caps now.

/Who am I kidding?
//It was beer or a haircut

I have thick, long, curly hair. I started cowashing or I use sulfate free wash and have no damage. I stopped using hair gel or mousse. I let my hair dry naturally.

The information in the article is nothing new.

I was born with feathery, blonde hair.

Now (with my blue eyes) I have jet black, insane hair. They don't work together. Half pin-straight, half goldie-locks curly. And it's not like bottom is curly, top is straight. It's wherever the fark it wants. I would live to lose 1/3 my hair mass. It's too think and I'm overwhelmed.

It's probably because I'm insane.

What's up with white chicks and hair extensions? That's...gross. I mean, I get it if you're older and losing, it's still gross, but I get it. Younger women, though.....

Hey, girl friend! :fistbump:
I do use a silicone-free gel, tho.

While I'm here, is the "stupid" tag for Subby? I mean, all that stuff is just common sense. And they are talking about EXCESSIVE handling of the hair, not having it braided at the ren fair once a year.

Of course this is true.  It's especially true of styles that put constant stress on the scalp.  Have you seen Stevie Wonder recently?    Maybe you think he's just balding, but I've seen women who wear cornrows or braids for years, and end up with little tufts spotted across their heads, but not usually starting until behind their ears.

Just get one that has a lock on the 'cold air blast' button.  You don't really need heat to dry your hair.

That.

I love my baldness. It's a frequent source of compliments. It helps get me laid. "Oooooh let me touch your shaved head", they purr as they skootch a little closer.

Gotta wear a hat in the summer or it burns, though, and that's not sexy.

All good advice, although air- or towel-drying long hair takes FOREVER. If you need to look nice quickly for an event, you've got to go with the hair dryer.

I have thick hair - it takes 4 hours to dry with a blow drier - 9 hours to towel then air dry. I wash it every 3 days, towel dry, comb it back and braid it. This gets it out of my way so I can do things. It also puts a nice wave into it. If you wash it before bed, the braid keeps it from drying in a mess and it is nearly dry in the morning (important in winter when it is 40 below outside). You have to plan a little, but I often get complements on my hair.

Heh heh! Good call. That's the reason why I know about the cap myth.  Started losing my hair at 23 and was completely bald on top by 30.  I stressed over it for a few years and then said f*ck it and put the Bic razor to it.

Well no shiat, Sherlock. I could have told you that the first few times I dyed my hair or I started blow drying my 'do when I was a teenager. I have a huge amount of very thick hair, but I try and take care of it as much as I can since I need it healthy for my vintage 'dos! Plus the many years of slicked back sock buns didn't help my hair health either...
