"I also failed Spanish and English," Scott recounted. "When you fail Spanish and English, they don't call you bilingual, no sir. They call you biignorant because you can't speak in any language."

Well, Senator, in case you get bicurious, there's how to say "My hovercraft is full of eels in Yiddish:
"מיין פראָם ( שוועבשיף ) איז פֿול מיט ווענערס" You're welcome.

Trololo.

Also, I have something to add to my "learn to pronounce" list, apparently.

Car_Ramrod: Scott wasn't doing well in high school until a small business owner befriended him and taught him that he would have to work hard to succeed rather than rely help from the government.

Sounds like a bullshiat story.

Not at all.  In fact, after telling him that, he had Scott help him with a special project back in the storeroom.  You know, the place with no windows where the lights no longer work.

He should just keep his school transcripts/grades secret, then, because he's black, any speculation would be racist. Super Smart.

Only in the US do political leaders wear their ignorance on their sleeve as a badge of honor.

FTFA: "We do not simply need a delay in the employer mandate," Scott said. "We need a repeal in the employer mandate."

I couldn't agree with him more.  Single payer FTW like civilized countries have.  To hell with Bull Crap/Bull Shiat.

lockers: This guy is proud just how dumb he is. This is who you farkers are electing to represent you. Stupid and intentionally ignorant, just like your average american.

The art of humility is lost on you.

The Green Manalishi: He used his story of growing up a single-parent household in South Carolina to explain his personal and political beliefs. Scott wasn't doing well in high school until a small business owner befriended him and taught him that he would have to work hard to succeed rather than rely help from the government.

...and this makes me really want to vote for him. I only vote for candidates who hate civics and government.

"Bad government--indeed, bloated, inefficient, corrupt, and unfair government--is the only kind of conservative government there is. Conservatives cannot govern well for the same reason that vegetarians cannot prepare a world-class boeuf bourguignon: If you believe that what you are called upon to do is wrong, you are not likely to do it very well."

Maybe, but a lot of others do a good imitation.

Diogenes: I guess it's somewhat impressive they even tried to teach it.

I never had a civics class, per se.  Whatever they attempted to formally teach was kind of rolled up into history and social studies classes.

In the educational/curriculum sense, "civics" is the old word for "social studies".  Integrated courses on policy, history and domestic culture.

So... the course you took called "social studies" is what's being talked about here.

"Hmm, a guy who couldn't pass a test designed for teenagers. I'd better trust him with the authority to set budgets for the nuclear weapon disposal program"

Somacandra: Is this guy a liberal plant or something? Why would you tell people your views on education after admitting you flunked your own studies? How is this person supposed to be credible?

Take it from a different angle:  The conventional education system failed him.  He was lucky enough to be picked up by an alternative that worked(for him, for a given value of 'worked'.  The guy did manage to get elected).  Ergo he as a unique perspective on the conventional system's failings and perhaps ideas on how to moderate them.

Sort of like how maybe having an ex-con helping with the justice system might make some sense.

The Green Manalishi: "I think I'm the only United States senator to have ever failed civics," Scott said in his first Senate floor speech.

"I also failed Spanish and English," Scott recounted. "When you fail Spanish and English, they don't call you bilingual, no sir. They call you biignorant because you can't speak in any language."

Sounds like the kind of guy you can have a beer with. I think I'll vote for him.

Yeah that was AWESOME when people voted for GWB.

You've never been called "a competent steward of your own self interest" or even know what a steward or self interest is, right?

Somacandra: FTFA: Scott wasn't doing well in high school until a small business owner befriended him and taught him that he would have to work hard to succeed rather than rely help from the government.

What the hell does that have to do with getting good grades or not? Plenty of people make good grades and don't get jack shiat done in their lives.

Good grades is soshalism!  And makes babby Jeebus cry.

Soup4Bonnie: Somacandra: How is this person supposed to be credible?

You're own credibility is diminishing.  Font up, man!  We want to hear what you have to say and some of us have old eyes.

A house guest here Farked with the default font on my wife's laptop. Grrrrrr.
