Hudson told Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission investigators that he knew there were alligators that swam in the park's river, but he had not seen any before he was attacked.

This is how Florida teens think.
"Yeah, I know alligators are in there but I don't see any, so cowabunga dude!"

WTF is it that possesses people to go swimming in Alligator-infested water?  Good old fashioned stupidity, I guess.

...because, if you can't see the alligator, it must not be there. It's not like it's a wild animal that knows more about this lake than you do.

Thanks!

Do they have to be the originals, or can they be the Hot N Spicy kind?

And I'm in FL.  Stupid FL, why don't they tell me these things?  All I hear is "don't feed the gators", but if the damned thing's gonna bite me or some Cheetos, I mean, I like Cheetos, but f*ck it, here, take 'em.

Same thing that possesses people to go swimming in shark-infested water (see: most of the ocean), the danger is minimal and swimming is fun.  99% of alligators, no matter what size, will not bother with you unless they have been handfed by morons.  I'm not saying that I'd go snorkling with a ten-footer, but a water moccasin would get me out of the water alot quicker.  Those suckers are as mean as...uh...hmm... I guess they're as mean as you would imagine

I'll agree that chances are minimal with sharks because they have such a vast area to inhabit, but when you swim in just a lake (unless it's Okeechobee) that is known to be frequented by alligators, I'm sorry but that's just plain stupid.

Interesting. Catfish also like generic cheese balls. Would an Alligator like a Cheese ball fed Catfish better than a regular one? And if I had said catfish, would it be better than said Cheetos to distract the Gator?

megarian would probably know better than me, but I would think that the gator would indeed like the cheese-ball-fed catfish better than a regular one.  Don't know if that catfish would better distract the gator, but I would think it would be very important to show the gator the catfish eating cheese balls, because otherwise the gator might not know that it's no ordinary catfish.

For me, in light of all this new knowledge (learning all kinds of stuff on fark today!), the most important question has become: do catfish like Cheetos?  Because it stands to reason that, for distracting gators, a Cheetos-fed catfish would trump all.

2013-07-09 02:21:35 PM
Or rather COULD trump all.

I'm pretty sure my catfish would eat cheetos. They'll eat rotten meat too. They're not real discriminating. They're kind of like aquatic raccoons. If it has a scent they'll eat it.

Besides, they'll eat dough bait made of corn meal and cheese, which is what cheetos are made out of, so it only stands to reason they'd eat cheetos.

Now, Amos Moses was a Cajun
He lived by his self in the swamp
He hunted alligator for livin'
He just knocked 'em in the head with a stump

Louisiana law gonna get you Amos
It ain't legal huntin' alligators down in the swamp boy
Now, everybody blamed his old man
For makin' him mean as a snake

When Amos Moses was a boy
His daddy'd use him for alligator bait
Tie a rope around his neck and throw him in the swamp
Alligator bait in the Louisiana bayou

About forty-five minutes south of Thibadoux Louisiana
Lived a cat named Doc Milsap, his pretty wife Hanna
Well, they raised up a son that could eat up his weight in groceries
Named him after a man of the cloth, called him Amos Moses

Everybody in south Louisiana said Amos was a helluva man
He could trap the biggest and meanest alligator and just use one hand
That's all he got left 'cause a alligator bit it
Left arm gone clean up to the elbow

Well, the Sheriff caught wind of Amos
In the swamp trappin' alligator skins
That Sheriff went lookin' for Amos
Boy, you know he never come out again

I wonder where the Louisiana Sheriff went to
You can sure get lost in the Louisiana Bayou

About forty-five minutes south of Thibadoux Louisiana
Lived a cat named Doc Milsap, his pretty wife Hanna
Well, they raised up a son that could eat up his weight in groceries

Seeing as Catfish will eat almost anything, Cheetos are most certainly a possibility. We should experiment... for Science!

Why?  It acted like an alligator.  Go swimming in a lake or pond in FL and you should be aware that big-ass reptiles share the water sometimes.  It wasn't a swimming pool, it was a state park.
