People are probably right when they say this will be the least successful of the larger Marvel universe movies to date. Hell, it may even bomb. But the more I see and read about it, the more it looks like it's going to be a fun movie.

I don't think things bode well for it, but then again I thought the same of Thor and look at what that thing did.

My guess is if they keep this thing light, non serious, and a little campy it'll do ok. Make it your PG-13 kid/teen spectacle but introduce some of the larger Marvel universe so you can reference in more stuff for phase 3.

del Toro as the Collector could be great, especially since he has a multi-picture deal.  But I'm really hoping the initial rumors that Gillan will be playing Death pan out.  Death wouldn't have to talk/act a lot, just stand around looking pretty.  Gillan can pull that off.

I had heard that she would be playing Angela from Spawn. In fact, I think it was Fark that broke that.

While I like all of those pics, I think she looks really good in that 60s mod look in the first one. While I don't want her to go on that horribly depressing show Mad Men, she wouldn't be out of place on it.

Nebula. Too much clothing. Disappointment. So many mostly nekkid Marvels, and she gets to be the one in two layers of throat-high costume.

You do realize that this means she's going to count on her acting, dontcha? Yep. This is an outrage.

I don't know whether this is the greatest or worst cast in history, but I plan to be there to find out.

The Avengers cartoon had a story arc w/the Guardians and it was played exactly as you describe--light & a little campy, but not unenjoyable for adults.  It aired shortly after the movie was officially green-lighted and, since the rest of that cartoon series seems to have tried to keep the tone of the movies, perhaps the Guardians will, too.  Also, I have faith in Joss Whedon, who is overseeing all of the Marvel films.  He's done some crazy things during his career, including turning one of his most popular characters into a puppet, but I don't think even he can take a talking raccoon too seriously.

Okay, she is really hot in that kissogram outfit and all, but that picture still makes me wonder where those stairs lead to. That's upstairs in a two story house, where do those stairs go? Those are not the sort of stairs that lead to an attic. The way they were very deliberately shown makes me convinced they were a dropped storyline. Not even Moffatt could have set up something all that time ago that has still to be revealed. Especially when the actor has left the show.

Doesn't matter if it bombs.  It's got The Collector, Nebula and Ronan.  I don't usually pre-order tickets a year in advance based solely on the cast of characters, but dammit if Marvel didn't discover my weakness.

Cosmic characters are the best.  If this does well, I'm going to send them my spec script where Richard Rider is sitting in a diner reading a Green Lantern comic when he's suddenly beamed into space to join the Nova Corps and has to fight Ego, the Living Planet.  The more of Marvel's space aliens and heroes that make it on screen, the better.

/FARK Fox for keeping the rights to the Skrulls for a FF movie they'll never make.
//i.e. one where the FF go into deep space and do something interesting for once.

Don't think so. We saw those stairs many times, both with Young Amelia and grown up Amy, and the Doctor interacted with them as well. It can't be just her imagination. I assume it was deliberate misdirection, since, like the framing of that screen grab, they were very specifically shown, but the question still remains, where do they go. That house clearly did not have another floor. At the very most it had a windowless attic, and that would have had a hatch in the ceiling or at the very most some tiny stairs hidden in a cupboard. Those stairs were the same size and form as the main stairs, all to go nowhere....

Karen Gillian is this really unusual combination of scalding hot - yet absolutely adorable. You don't usually get to be both.

As for this movie........ I don't know about this. It was a decent comic, but I'm just not sure it will translate well. Could really seem goofy as hell. Marvel surprised me with Thor though, which I couldn't imagine would work and yet did. So, my expectations are non-existent for this one, but I'll reserve final judgment until I've seen a trailer.

Maybe it was going to be a three story house but they ran out of money part way.

I visited a plantation mansion in Georgia that was like that.  They were still building it when the Civil War broke out and they had a couple stairwells that went up into the ceiling because of that.

As was mentioned, the idea of a extra set of stairs on a two story house was later played out in "The Lodger", where it was an alien ship disguised as the upper level while the ship was basically sucking the lifeforce out of people in an attempt at self repair.

That same ship design later was revealed as the technology (same style of ship) used by the race known as the Silence/Silents (sic); an alien race so bizarre that anyone who saw one of them would immediately forget everything they knew about them as soon as the alien was no longer in view.

That episode (The Eleventh Hour) also played off the idea of a perception filter being laid on the house so that Amy wouldn't notice the extra room on the second floor that Prisoner Zero was hiding out in.  Prisoner Zero being another alien that had mind altering abilities, and quite possibly the ability to see the Silence without forgetting them.

<Twilight Zone Theme>Consider if You will...</Twilight Zone Theme>

Stephen Moffat may have already introduced the idea of the Silence from that first Matt Smith episode,  and subtly linked their existence in with that of Prisoner Zero as a double blind.  An extra room on the second floor, and a stairs that led to nowhere?  Is it possible that the stairs were supposed to be explained in a later episode to better tie the existence of the Silence in with the escape plans of Prisoner Zero and they just didn't have room (or pressing need) in later scripts to flesh that idea out?

Of course it could also be as simple as the place the got permission to use for the location shoot had three floors and they just didn't feel like explaining why the third one was there.

Back on Topic.
I was looking forward to GoTG even before these new rumors of introducing the Kree, the Elders of the Universe, and a direct link to Thanos as parts of the storyline.  If they can pull off getting the feel of the cosmic level characters thru on the big screen; that really does open up whole new cans of Worms and WhoopAss to play with.
