Excluding all of the money they lost, they're making money

If you look back at the estimates, you'll see that they have been steadily declining.

You should read the commentary piece on the right side of the page.

"The housing-recovery myth: Housing's rebound is for a wealthy few - and the banks"

Yep, the banks, THE BANKS, are going to be the ones making a killing on the housing "rebound".

I think I am going to start looking into a life of white-collar crime. Apparently, there is no risk of punishment.

I wouldn't count them out yet--I'm sure there is an Alcoa Fantastic Finish lurking near the end of the game.

Alcoa doesn't do much foil, that's mostly the Reynolds group and smaller finishers. Alcoa does that stupid hard electric refining of the raw stuff.

Among other things.  They also make tread plate, Aircraft panels, automotive panels, those little rubber bits under 20oz pop caps etc...

Well that ruins my theory about the increase in foil hat sales.

Nothing helps stock prices like shipping jobs overseas or to Mexico.

The big issue right now for Alcoa is as a Primary Metals company, the downstream business is making all the money right now. The upstream smelting process is where the loss is mostly happening. That's due to the LME price being terrible(about $1757/ton at the moment). Given Alcoa's place on the smelting cost curve, something in the 1850-1950 range would be much better for finances.
