That's funny, because you can still pre-order them from their site, whereas the PS4 bundles have already been pulled.

well of course you can still order them online, the Xbone doesn't support in-store purchases anymore, only digital/online purchases.

Also Microsoft only had like a dozen or so units per store. Sony told retailers to sell an unlimited number before going "Holy shiat, they actually sold as many as we can make."

depends.  It had many features Sony would later remove via either hardware changes or software changes.  Backwards compatibility, Other OS, George Foreman Grill, no rumble.

I think it was Don Mattrick's own fault he lost his job. He mishandled the Xbone from the start. Draconian DRM, online requirements, it was all handled very poorly. Perhaps he could sue himself for his lousy business acumen.

But now he's the CEO of Zynga
/can't really see how that's an improvement.

The word on the street wasn't that Don Mattrick was fired. Steve Ballmer was in the process of reorganizing the management and department in Microsoft and Don Mattrick thought he was first in line to head up the new Microsoft consumer hardware division. When that job went to somebody else, he decided to find something else. Zynga offered him 60 total million compensation and benefits and options to head that company and so he went there.

Taking the Zynga job has no downsides for Mattrick. Even if he does terribly and Zynga continues losing money, his offer of the 60 million total compensation will still be in place. He has a golden parachute.

Fan boys are everywhere. I own both systems (360 and PS3). Its a machine folks that does the same thing.

That being said, if Sony sees a flaw in Microsofts "vision" of what the future will be, cloud, restricting players choices in the name of the "future"....If Sony lets what the future will be based on what the actual customers needs are and not some game compoaines need tyo keep picking our pockets at every turn....then they deserve to win. Sony hardly puts out crap. I still own my original Sony PS3, while I'm on my 4th 360 thanks to the red ring of death.

It seems to me many of us have been conditioned to not even question if we are getting screwed over by a biog company. In fact many actually defend a practice that cost them more the they have. They don;t even know what it their own best self interest.

I'm most concerned about having to be online every 24 hours to play that game I just shelled out $60 (or who knows $70) in the future. I don't always (or can always in my house down the cape) want to be online when I am playing a game like Skyrim. This may have changed I hear, but who knows when some arrogant bastard (or CEO of a game company) thinks they controll what the furture will be

The only issues with the launch PS3 were long term. The laser has to be replaced every 4 years or so and the soldering is prone to melting and breaking the circuit over years of overheating if it's in a poorly ventilated environment and you don't clean it every once in a while.

Alternatively if you do take it apart and replace the thermal paste, and clean it but then forget to plug the fan in when reassembling you get to buy a new PS3.  Not that i would personally know anything about that...

Who cares games have sucked so badly lately that it is not worth buying new hardware.

The Last of Us? Bioshock: Infinite? Please, stupid escort mission and endless sneak/shoot do not make a good game.

Borderland 2? Repetitive shooter with stupid robots.

Deadpool? If I wanted junior high level fart jokes I'd hang out with my nephews.

Skyrim? Bored after three days.

Fallout/Fallout New Vegas? When they went to the console they lost something, the series is no longer worthy of the Fallout name.

Like I said Sony or Microsoft it does not matter the games suck, the only thing worth playing on that hardware is Netflix.

So is this the moment where I tell you to stop trolling... or is it the moment where I paraphrase this as "Stop liking what I dont like!"

Because all the games you stated as crap are highly rated and loved games by a ton of people. Just because you do not like them, does not mean they are crap. Some of those games that I played are awesome and kept me playing for a long time.

The disillusionment should really come at the end of the main plot, where you realize that they still haven't figured out how to tell a decent story.

Fallout 3 was awesome.  Skyrim was the best fantasy single player fantasy world RPG made in the last decade, and Bioshock Infinite/The Last of Us are some of the best games ever made.

Sorry bro, if you can honestly play Fallout 3 and think "2 was better", you can't really call yourself a gamer anymore.  The spark is gone.

I love gaming, and I loved Fallout 3, and Fallout 2 was still better. Your choices mattered, there was humor and horror aplenty, your followers were better fleshed-out as individuals, and it really felt like you were in a rebuilding postapocalyptic wasteland. Fallout 3 may seem prettier, and it would have worked well as a prequel, but it was a different game trying to be something it wasn't. For all that, I love it, but I still think Fallout 2 was better.

Skyrim, too, had problems, although the "wow" factor is enough that you should be able to keep going for more than three days. After relatively little time you start to appreciate just how small everything is. It's also shockingly easy; the end boss should have been a challenge in keeping with the epic factor they were trying to go for in that whole area. There's a host of other problems, but that's the most obvious.

As for Borderlands 2, I haven't played it yet, but I have heard that a lot of the fun is gone because there are easily-defined "best" weapons and "best" builds now. I'll withhold judgement; there's a lovely woman who wants to play co-op with me.

Anyway, that doesn't mean that the games suck; it does mean that people who grew up with certain expectations for their games aren't having those expectations met.

I grew up with games like Super Mario Brothers and Contra.  My expectations for my games are blown out of the water by what we consider to be crappy shovelware these days.

Seriously go play ridge racer and then play Burnout Paradise and tell me that games these days suck.

Go play contra and then throw in Halo and tell me that you prefer contra.

There is nothing special about old games. We love them because when we were kids they seemed so much more impressive.  Back when having more than 5 moving objects on the screen was a technological marvel everything was impressive.  Back when having a lot of text limited the number of colors you could have in your textures we thought the story for Zelda was epic.   Games don't suck these days, gamers are just jaded.

/Actually I do prefer contra because it reminds me of being a kid and I used to think it was super hard so beating it on one life in like half an hour still makes me feel like a badass.

New Vegas was an unacceptably buggy POS that never managed to engender any emotional investment on my part.  It was a shiatty expansion pack for F3.

The Baulders Gate (and Planescape: Torment) is better then the Dragon Age series.  They have a more fleshed out universe, more memorable characters, and just a better overall environment. I keep going back and playing them again and again, while with Dragon Age I might play it for a couple of hours and get bored with it.  It just doesn't grip me like the older Black Isle RPGS still do to this day.

It was an expansion pack in the sense that GTA: San Andreas was an XP to GTA 3. Yeah, it was buggy, but it is enjoyable.  You should try it now that they have the bugs worked out.

HotWingConspiracy: Am I just misremembering, or was the launch PS3 a piece of crap?

both in the end bit the dust really

360 had RROD up the ass, really anything made before the Slim model was 90% guaranteed to fail

PS3 60gb was/is pretty awesome feature wise at launch - full built in PS2 support (including most peripherals if you bought the adapter), 4 USB ports, very durable, built in wifi, exchangeable non-proprietary HDD, etc.

*but* in the end all those launch PS3's are similarly prone to YLOD after years of use and as we transitioned over to more wifi use it's become apparent that the antenna placement in the fat PS3's significantly hinders wifi performance for those launch machines, not to mention future PS3's ditched PS2 B/C

i had both a 20gb 360 and launch PS3 bite it within a week of eachother, pretty crazy timing to get a YLOD and RROD so quickly despite being in the least-dusty part of the house, the refurbished replacements are still going strong to this day tho (4 years later)

if there's a lesson to be learned (same goes for Nintendo's handhelds) it's never buy the launch version

The weapons and builds really depend on how you like to play, there really is no "best" way(raid bosses being the exception).  I use some legendary weapons, but I also have some unique ones and a couple of rares that get some use depending on the enemies.  There are builds that are fairly overpowered with the right equipment, but honestly those just get boring.

Honestly, with games that have skill trees, I never look up premade builds unless its an MMO and you kinda need to have max DPS to run the raids. So Borderlands usually gets a custom build that works great with what I want to use.

I would say that Oblivion and Skyrim seem to be on the level of Baldur's Gate (not sure if anybody can catch Torment).  There are only going to be a few such masterpieces any few years, and much of the talent is going to be stashed doing MMOs.  If we aren't seeing more, it is because more money for AAAAAA titles means more risk, and more PHBs watering down the games to reach the least common denominator.

I got several mods (65 to be exact) and only 5 are body texture mods (non nude ones). The rest are unofficial fixes, custom weapons, armor, spells, homes, races, and environmental adds like birds and weather. Even have a neat mod that makes the game more difficult because I have to actually survive because of the climate (Snowing means need to wear a fur coat to keep warm. Set up a tent during rain storms / blizzards and be near fires to warm up / dry off).

Skyrim? Bored after three days.

If you got bored of Skyrim after only three days you might have a medical condition.

Even worse is that Skyrim (and similar) are the poster games of "PC is the master race". Can't mod the console games, can't even get DLC for PS3.

Modding has more in common with the phone jailbreaking/rooting crowd than anything to do with a master gaming race.  We've all seen the modded female skins for Skyrim and all it does is scream "replacement for actual girlfriend".

This just in, not every skyrim mod is a nude female mod.

I don't have Skyrim on the PC yet I'm waiting (and hoping) for a summer sale of the legendary edition.  I do have Fallout:NV though.  The mods for that game are amazing.  What I have seen of Skyrim mods is very promising.

I so wish I had FO3 and NV for the PC. So many of those mods look AWESOME! Is anyone else really hoping the next Fallout game allows you to either choose to be a ghoul or become one through enough radiation exposure? Or is that just me?

captainktainer: As for Borderlands 2, I haven't played it yet, but I have heard that a lot of the fun is gone because there are easily-defined "best" weapons and "best" builds now. I'll withhold judgement; there's a lovely woman who wants to play co-op with me.

The main problem with BL2 is that it's a co-op/single player first person ARPG.  Who cares if The Bee + Conference Call = I WIN or someone figures out a way to get 10 zillion golden keys?  Nobody.  Except Gearbox who firmly believe their little co-op ARPG is in fact am MMO and needs to be balanced.

Having said that Conference Call is a Hyperion weapon so you're only delivering max damage towards the end of your magazine and The Bee's damage bonus only hits when your shield is untouched so yeah... you're a complete and total glass cannon at that specific time.  If an enemy hits you or you've just reloaded the CC... you're output sucks balls.

This issue of it being an MMO that isn't aside BL2 is one of the best games of last year.  The writing and voice acting of Handsome Jack just carries the whole game... exactly like a villan in that sort of setting should.

BUT make sure you get the season pass.  Hammerlock's DLC is pants but the other three, especially Tiny Tina's, is just hilarious.
