For some reason I read that as "medical equipment," so I thought subby was celebrating a *much* greater level of misfortune.

I'll give them a reward to keep it as long as it means Slipknot can't play "music"

I know Fark hates Slipknot, but I have no problem admitting I like them, at least their first album or two (not that I've listened to them in years). In other news, it takes a special kind of douchebag to steal from friends, especially something with more sentimental value than monetary value. I suspect the meth.

Look, I dislike Slipknot as much as the next guy, but it's not like we're talking about Fred Durst or Avril Lavigne here. Fortunately for Corey Taylor, he's got oodles of money laying around to replace it all, but it still sucks to have musical equipment stolen from you. Somewhere, some asshole has my 1967 B.C. Rich Mockingbird, and it pisses me off every time I think about it.

/hmm, autocorrect wants to fix Lavigne, but not Durst? The HELL you say!

Someone must think that Slipknot guys live the rockstar life like others.  Keep in mind, they still live in Des Moines, not California.  They don't live on a shoestring budget, but you would probably go 'Meh," if you saw where they lived on MTV's Cribs.  Corey is probably the most fiscally sound of the bunch and could probably pay to replace the equipment with ease.  The main part which sucks is someone stole Paul Gray's equipment.  That's just cold and not easily replaced.

I had my car stolen when it had a bunch of gear in the trunk a week after my insurance expired. The gear was worth more than the car. TR-606, Mackie mixer and a bunch of other stuff. And before you blame, me the car was supposed to be in my garage but my gf "borrowed" it to take to work. It's weird, I'd parked that car in the shiattiest neighborhoods in the Mission overnight and no one had ever touched it. Yet the ONE TIME the gf takes it to work at a busy hospital in the middle of the day and it gets jacked.

While I can understand where subby is coming from, scared by loud noises and unimpressed by the sensationalism of the band, you should probably do some research about the people you insult.  Watch a few youtube videos, see if you're really happy insulting the guy, or if he really deserves to be robbed.

I feel bad when musical equipment is stolen from anyone, even those folk who have money to throw around. Pretty easy to grow attached to gear you have been lugging around.

Mostly that. Also, for those who dislike Slipknot, try listening to some of Stone Sour's stuff. Same singer(Corey), and one of the guitarists(Jim Root).

RockChalkH1N1: Fark hates Slipknot?

Of course. Slipknot sold more than a thousand albums and stole all their music from a Finnish death metal band named GroRRRRRGGGGG! It's okay that you've never heard of them. They're so hardcore that the guitarist doesn't even have arms.

Basically, if a band is well known enough for YOU to like them, they suck.

2013-07-09 05:28:22 AM
I hate Slipknot tremendously, but stealing someone's musical instruments is pretty low.

2013-07-09 06:21:52 AM
Though the stealing of gear is terrible, especially from bands on tour, I'll bet he at least got some if not most of that gear for free, that's why you want to have companies sponsor you. This is especially true for metal bands, because while there are next to no metal bands that can make a living off of their music alone, you can at least get sponsored and get free gear. It sucks though, because when you're on tour, if someone wants to break into your trailer or van badly enough. There's nothing you can do.

Slipknot is a pretty fun band. Oh, they were popular? Oh yeah, have to say we hate them now.

magneticmushroom: Somewhere, some asshole has my 1967 B.C. Rich Mockingbird, and it pisses me off every time I think about it.

Last time I went on a vacation, some douche broke into my apartment and took six guitars (1968 Grestch Corvette, 1962 Les Paul Tobacco Burst, 1986 Paul Gilbert signature Ibanez Iceman, my original-issue Jem 777,  my home-built EVH Frankenstein, and my 80's Kramer Malmsteen edition Strat) and 8 suits I inherited from my uncle that were pimp as hell (well, one was a Brooks Brothers "Reservoir Dogs" style all-black suit that I purchased for funerals/weddings etc).  But they left my $25,000+ collection of microphones, all the computer gear, 1941 Martin acoustic that's worth 20+ grand alone as well as my four vintage Fender Jazz basses. WTF?

That was seven years ago and I still want to puke just typing this.  I quit playing for three years I was so heartbroken.

I like slipknot.

My first exposure to them was on Guitar Hero. The song "Before I Forget". I really dug it, and it was hard to play. I've been slowly listening to the rest of their catalogue, and I'm enjoying most of it.

/Liked them ever since.

What's spiffy about a "friend" robbing the guy of equipment that includes sentimental items. Of course the guy has enough money that he can go buy new equipment but he shouldn't have to.

I think its probably time for Mr. Taylor to find himself a new friend.

It wasn't anything super sexy-a Peavey from the 80's I believe, but it was solid wood/natural and actually had really good tone long before I knew what the f to do with it. It also had a phase switch, which is kind of novel on an electric guitar (as opposed to an electric-acoustic).

A T-30?  If so, ouch.  Solid guitars that can still be had for a song.  Those and the T-15s.  My first was an Ibanez Roadstar II with a phase switch, and I loved it.  It's needed a fret job and some filing to the bridge (it's like a knife and strings don't last) for years, but I loved that heavy bastard and the added sounds with the phase switch.  I swore that if I found another, I'd buy it.  I did, but it needs the same work.  I couldn't pass it up though.  I don't play enough, so I've stuck with cheap stuff.  Ended up gutting my first Roadstar and putting the pickups in my Affinity Strat.  I knew the stock pickups were crap, but Jesus, even the Ibanez pups sound a lot better!  It's all going back into the Ibanez once I get the time and money to get some fretting tools and material.

I was never a major Slipknot fan, but I pretty much stopped listening to them after seeing them live.  There were a lot of complaints about their live sound at the time, and they were countering them in the press, talking about how they had Metallica's soundman.  System of a Down played and sounded great, as did Rammstein.  Slipknot was so loud and unintelligible, it sounded like 1000 decibles of white noise over 500 decibles of a bad AM radio signal.  I'm guessing the soundman had spent far too many years on the road with Metallica and couldn't hear a goddamned thing.

Don't try that argument. Just ask "what similar band should I listen to that can invoke the same emotional response" and wait for crickets or classic rock derp.

I don't think they're masterfully talented; I think they found a theatrical way to express guteral anger and I like it.

IIRC, it was a T-60, but I don't recall if it actually said that on the headstock or that's what someone told me it was. (This was before you could conveniently look up this type of information from the comfort of your own home). I bought it used from a classified ad in the local newspaper. Came with a hardshell case, which was nice for a $200-ish used guitar. I'd love to find another one. The night it was stolen, I was actually parked outside an early Cake gig prior to their major label debut album.

Gads, I've been having this argument with my (argumentative) 11 year old a ton lately.  He just doesn't understand his Dad's contempt for constructed "pop bands" and anyone faking it on stage either with autotune or lip sync.  After all, they're rich and have tons of fans- that's what's really important, not musical talent.

I regularly bring my teen-aged son to concerts that I would not ordinarily go to - Mayhem or Warped
tours basically. Saw Slipknot at one of these shows last year, and while I did know a single song they played beforehand, I was hugely entertained.... They had the crowd in the palm of their hand...
