So the logic of top DCF officials and some task force members apparently flows like this: Working parents who aren't making enough money to pay child care costs should pay more for their child care, which effectively will lower their hourly wage. That, in turn, will encourage those parents to work more hours or pick up an extra job to make ends meet.

They forgot the part where that person would have to pay for MORE childcare because they're working that extra job to make ends meet.

FFS, are these guys really that farking sadistic?!

This is why periodically, we should confiscate all assets over $1 Million.

It will encourage the wealthy to work harder to regain their fortunes, this creating many jobs in the process.

I think the correct answer from the the state of Kansas is "go be poor somewhere else".

note: I lived in Topeka Kansas for 10 years, the state capital.  There are very few jobs, even in the state capital.  Most of the town is a ghetto, and I know once you get to the "rural" part of the state (note 99 %), most people fall under the "poor" category as most of the Farms are corporate owned and farm work doesn't pay very well at all.

Editorials that say things like,

Crumpton said that single mothers need to realize that the cost of public assistance programs is "unsustainable" and that the government is not responsible for rectifying single parents' poor choices.

while only using quotes on one word make me very wary of the writer of the editorial.

Smells funny.

The quote is taken from the referenced article  http://www.khi.org/news/2013/jun/25/dcf-asks-task-force-endorse-plan- p romoting-work-ov/ in which she also suggested that women be forced to use "Vagina Corks" until such time as they've had a steady, well paying job, for three years.  When asked how this would work with they evangelical view of women staying at home, cooking and having babies she responded with "fark you".

I am starting to have an interesting opinion on the Democrats v Republicans fight

This is a big drama of bullies versus the geeks.

The GOP likes to be the bully. It makes them feel strong. The Democrats like to be the geeks. These people arent as strong but they are smarter than the bullies.

And in the very end, deep down inside, we like it that way. We dont want it to change.

I pay 7000 a year in child care for my 3 year old. That's pretty cheap. Some can pay upwards of 200/ week for child care. Yep, I did choose to have children (the other is 6, she costs 75/week during school and 150 in the summer). I work, so does the Mr. But Still that is almost 12k in one year for my two kids.

I cannot imagine living on 20K a year (10 dollars an hour) and try to afford child care. That's insane. Rent, food, clothes for growing kids, holy crap.

Didn't read the article -- really don't care either way.

Although poor people do seem to always have the most children, and on top of that they never really take care of them properly (all their shots, doctor visits, etc etc)

How about we make it such that after 2 kids -- you are required to be sterilized to receive government benefits. Helps them as they don't have more kids for them (us) to take care of, and it helps society where we don't have an exploding population of poor people who were raised on TV and McDonalds their whole life.

I do understand though -- if I was poor and had no prospect for a brighter future, I'd probably lay around all day having sex and spitting out babies.  Damn my personal responsibility and knowledge of condoms ruining all the fun.

Look: we can wait for the wages and working conditions of developing countries to *increase* to the point that we can bring back those sweatshop jobs economically, or we can meet them in the middle.

This way's faster.

We all understand the logic "parents pay for children".  The debate part is which parents and whose children. The consensus in this thread seems "all parents should pay for all children."  If you're against that collectivism, you're a cold-hearted psychopath a$$hole.

This is going to be funny in a few years when Kansas has to borrow even more money from those fake American states that vote Democratic to keep itself running.  Then again, the 'Real Americans' who vote for the sacks of shiat who do this will somehow rationalize it in their heads as they live under crumbling underpasses while counting the nickels that won't go to nonwhites while the rich piss on them.

I'm sure they understand.  They just don't care.  Something something leeches on society.

No, no, no, no, no............you still don't get it - do you?  Unmarried women having sex must be PUNISHED!  Sterilizing them would only allow them to continue to have guilt free monkey sex and, BY GOD, we won't stand for that - especially if taxpayers have to pay for the surgery.  You need to advocate for some type of punishment that will both prevent the sluts from having sex and also prevent the sluts from enjoying sex.  Talk to your local evangelicals, they can give you some good ideas.

As a Kansan, this whole thing makes me sad.  But your comment reminded me of a student worker I used to have.  She and her husband married at like 19 or 20 and cranked out three kids in four years.  They probably made less than $30k between the two of them and some time between child two and child three she made the comment to me that they wouldn't be able to feed their kids without free/reduced formula from WIC.  I just wanted to shake her and scream "If you couldn't afford to feed the first one, why the fark did you have another?!"  Unfortunately, I knew that her answer was likely to be "we're super-Catholic and won't use birth control."

Did you know she took welfare late in life? She talked the talk, but couldn't walk the walk. I, myself, subscribe to the adage, "crazy Russian immigrants pay for crazy Russian immigrants".
