There's going to be a rude awakening when some of them exit that house.

/no sympathy

Yeah but she is hot.

Damn hot

Watched it for the first time last night. I mean, watched it for the LAST time. 10 minutes of my life, wasted.

Never watched the show, but It boggles my mind that they make these statements and it never seems to occur to anybody there might be repercussions.

Should be interesting when (insert your favorite house idiot) finally leaves the house.

Pick: Watched it for the first time last night. I mean, watched it for the LAST time. 10 minutes of my life, wasted.

It went really downhill after they stopped putting actual people in there and instead went with a bunch of 20 something year old rejects from MTV's Real World every time.  Which, I think was after the first season.  Maybe second.

I know nothing of these people or the show, but I do like the idea that they are completely unaware their lives have been ruined.

Remember those hylcion days when a body would come home from a hard day at work, turn on the TV and be entertained by cool mofo detectives living on the beach in a trailer and driving a Firebird?

Now we watch other prople do their "real life" job or concentrated roommate arguments and have opinions on how well "amatures" sing or dance.

Call me old fashioned, but I am still happy to go to a bar and risk casual sex to at least of the latter two.

/bonus it requires no cable bill

I know, right. There is only one channel.

How is this a surprise???

How to cast a reality tv show:

1 - Get young attractive men and women
2 - Send home people who are dull (married, stable jobs and backgrounds, no tattoos, so on and so forth)
3 - Get a racially diverse cast
4 - Make sure they don't get along by making sure the racists get picked.

Profit!!!

Like so many Farkers, lazy minds who can't be bothered with concepts like "context" or "connotation."

You hope that this is the wake-up call to potential contestants that they maybe ought to remember all those TV cameras laying around. You also hope that this is the wake-up call to the Big Brother casting people, but then, last year they sent the third member of the Hantz family into the house only to have to kick him back out for violence. So who knows if they'll actually learn any lesson whatsoever.

Of course, we would all do well to remember Oscar Wilde's observation on ratings deficient reality TV shows.

You forgot to add make sure they know that if they say enough stupid things or act obnoxious enough they might get their own show.

Remember, Chumley gets something like $50,000 a week for looking like the kind of dumbass who isn't smart enough to tie his own shoes.

Having seen my first episode Sunday, it's not only the racist things she said, but her general demeanor. She seemed to have a CLOSE PERSONAL BOND with someone she met like 3 days ago and is seeking revenge  KILL BILL style on anyone who voted him off. She's also a generally snooty, spoiled brat.

When did "queer" become a homophobic slur?

2013-07-08 02:39:52 PM
Can't wait until she is evicted and has to face Julie Chen, who will hopefully call her out on her anti-Asian remarks, then drop the bomb about being dropped from her agency.  The same Julie Chen who is A) Asian-Ameriocan and 2) married to the head of the network.  This chick will be gobsmacked, and hopefully soon.

Aryan is pretty pissy because she figured she was a shoe-in for the new MVP twist (where America votes for a fave each week and gives them the ability to secretly nominate another hamster for eviction) based on her looks I guess.  She will never win it because she is reviled on every board I've seen thus far.

/guilty pleasure, watch this thing every summer

CBS was looking for good TV. They weren't looking for stuff they had to be badgered into putting on TV. I don't think they planned this. I think their casting people just farked up that badly.

Not really. I mean, she's cute, but nothing special. She has the generic "blonde and tan" look.

ryarger: Alphakronik: When did "queer" become a homophobic slur?

Y'know, that is odd, come to think of it... Doesn't seem like yesterday; back round 1994, they were traipsing around insisting that

1) they were queer,
2) they were here, and
3) we'd better get used to it.

Now we're used to it, and they're not queer anymore.

I think they just like farking with us...

ryarger: Alphakronik: When did "queer" become a homophobic slur?

June 14th, 1987

I remember that day well. The Lakers had just beaten the Celtics 4 -2 and secured the NBA championship. Some unhappy Celtics fans were looking for a word to impugn the manhood of Lakers fans. After the words "spruce," "tippy," and "mango" failed to accomplish the desired effect, they found what they were looking for. The rest is history.

Aaryn is actually a friend of mine and I have known her for almost 10 years now. I never knew that she spoke like this. Granted, I have been out of touch with her for the past few years but, it is still quite a surprise. I was like "Whoa, you're gonna be on Big Brother! That is pretty neat" now it's more like "damn, you're on Big Brother, and you're making an ass of yourself, for the whole world to see, that's pretty neat."

The guy who does the preseason interviews was on the show twice and rattled off a bunch of homophobic slurs both times.

One of the girls I went to high school with was on the Bachelor. I had never watched it so I watched the first episode - she wasn't even picked in the initial whatever thing. Boooooo.

I was glad that they did bring out the little twatfarts remarks - but they only scratched the surface.  Spencer and former pageant biatch pretty much got a pass.

You'd think they'd figure out, if they'd ever seen the damned show, that their not getting MVP might...just MIGHT...mean America isn't as enamored of them as they think.  That should give them a big, giant honkin clue.

I will, however, hope cameras are rolling with Aaryn finds out she's despised, unemployed, and all her racists shenanigans are on the interwebs...forever.  Good luck with post-house life, coontrag!

"Cracker" isn't against all whites, just poor whites. The n-word and all variations of it are directed at all black people all the time.

Have a more distorted view of history, be a bigger whiner, we all know you can!

Not true.  Before you call anyone a cracker, you have to review bank statements and two years of tax returns.

The generally accepted etymology is that it refered to the southern plantation foremen who used bullwhips to motivate the staff (cracking the whip = crackers).

That's a theory, nothing more. Let's assume it's true though. That means blacks are accusing me of being somebody that would not only own, but would also abuse people. Sounds pretty goddamn derogatory to me.

Dude the simple fact that you're using "cracker" without any issues, but still feel the need to censor the N word yourself should answer your question.

In the early seasons of BB someone hired a plane that pulled a banner informing the house guests of certain things. Would like to see one now about the firings.

Actually it censors it to "attractive and successful African-American". You were censoring it yourself.

Nice try though.

Yeah - someone tried that the year before, too.  Although, now, when they see the banner coming, they order the HG's on inside lockdown, since it 'interferes with the game.'  Ptthuuhhh.  I wanna see AAryn's meltdown when she finds out via banner that she's fired and universally hated!

The funniest thing is Julie Chen called a contestant Chinese when they are actually Korean, which as I understand it, is very offensive to Koreans.

//Chen also often does a Steppin Fetchit type routine about Asians.

We just had a thread debunking that myth the other day. Some guys at NPR say it's an ethnic slur.

I'm suprised rich white men of the era would even slow down much less honk for a minority to get out of their rich way.

Cracker doesn't carry the emotional baggage of 400 years of institutionalized racism. A previously oppressed people have a certain amount of leeway make fun of their former oppressors, while a person whose people formerly held all the power and privilege looks like a douche when they do the same. You just can't say that both words are equal when there is so much history and emotion loaded into one of those words, a word that invokes the original sin of our nation.

Which is why blacks use it all the time. Must not be that damn hurtful. They just want any excuse they can to scream "racism" and people like you play right into it.
