Because obviously if the human body is naked at whatever age there is obviously the urge to sexualize it and hence the need to cover it up

Seriously, though, if it's illegal to posses a photo of something like this, why is it legal to parade it around in public?

And if/when somebody did take a pic, the same parents complaining this was "ridiculous" would be demanding "why didn't somebody stop them!?!?!?"

I disagree. Who knows how many other parents were harassed by the "beach supervisor" but don't work for a newspaper. In a sane world, people washing their children off after time at the beach would be a completely normal and accepted activity. That it's not is a sad and mockable state of affairs. It's worth publishing the article to shame that town for being stupid.

Unfortunately, most of the comments on the story are of the "your kids shouldn't be naked" variety. To me, those people are either trolling, or the USA has gone way, way, toward the dark side.

A big, fat THIS.

If you have a problem with little kids running around naked at a beach then you are an idiot.  They're little kids for f*ck's sake, they have no concept of sexuality.  They're simply having fun at the beach and some people want to stop that because they might see a pre-pubescent penis or a barely-visible pudenda.  I would contend that those in opposition are really the ones with the problem as they automatically conflate naked children with paedophilia.  As for the whole "Ooh no, a pedo might grab them" argument that's pathetic!  They might do that anywhere, the beach is probably less likely given the fact that there's very little cover and potentially thousands of witnesses/have-a-go-heroes around.  On the list of offensive sights one might encounter in public, a naked toddler is way, way down.

I don't think MyToeHurts was talking about the fact that it was published, but rather the tone and language of the article.  And I have to agree.  The writer's arrogant, snide, self-righteous tone seemed to be trying to portray himself as the pinnacle of martyrdom. He somehow managed to blow an already ridiculous circumstance further out of proportion, suggesting starting a protest march because his children might've been thrown in prison for 90 days.  I want to argue the opposing side just to prove this douchebag wrong.

No need for hyphens when you say somebody is "two years old", subby. (That's only when the whole phrase is used as a modifier, as in "That two-year-old child is two years old".)

Also, "respectively" is only used when there are two lists, to indicate that the items in the list are in corresponding order, as in "Boss Hogg and Daisy Duke are pathetic and hot, respectively". It serves no purpose here.

Hope this helps.

Just to be clear: what most folks think of when they hear "Jersey Shore" isn't like where this guy was. Spring Lake is the most boring, uptight beach I've ever been to. My friend's dad would take us there on vacation when we were teenagers and it sucked. No shops on the boardwalk to speak of, no activities, etc.; just beach, bland boardwalk, and bad attitudes. Hardly fun for a teenager, it's more geezer speed.

The author wasn't far off when he speculated part of the snark was because he (the author) was obviously not a local. People are snooty as fark in that town.

The Snookie types wouldn't bother going to Spring Lake because it's about as fun as watching sand errode.

wambu: How about some therapy for the people who complained?

No one else complained complained. Only the supervisor whose job it is to enforce the rules. I'm not sure I'm really ready to condemn him for doing his job. For all we know he loses his union job if he doesn't follow the book.

And we are getting one side of the story, of course. And even the author says he simply ignored the beach employee outright. Not apologised, not say "Thanks for the warning we will hurry up and be on our way." Just ignored him. Again, I'm not sure I can really fault the beach employee for doing his job.

But, of course, most people here will jump to that conclusion and feel confidently superior in their own enlightened self righteousness.

If this guy went to Europe and to the beaches he would die of a heart attack, because you have all age ranges that will go to the showers and strip nude with most of the teenage girls only having to remove their bottoms because they were already topless.

My only thought was "must be European". I was wrong though. Found out later they were from Australia.

Eh. In Europe there are officially clothing optional beaches and some not. Just like in the U.S. And contrary to common American misconception, clothing optional in Europe doesn't necessarily mean throngs of completely naked people, even in the french mediterranean. It often means you might see a few topless women in the crowd. And yes I have been there for a few summers in my youth. P.S. If your experience comes from watching eastern European "nudist" videos then that was shot at a declared nudist resort.

No, because nudity of children is not porn.  America likes to equate nudity to porn.  That is why it is okay to film heads exploding but a nipple of a 3 year old girl in a bath commercial is a heinous crime (At least in the minds of a good majority of Americans today).

The really sad thing is your moronic thoughts have started to rub off on other countries that used to not care.

No it was three months in southern Spain and I went to few beaches around the home I was staying at which all must have been clothing optional. My experience did not amount to a few topless people, but a great deal of topless people with a few bottomless.

Fully the US and has been this way for awhile.  In the 80's it was not a big deal for children to play on a beach (river or ocean) in the buff.  It was also not uncommon for non-developing girls to run around with their shirts off in the summer sun just like the boys.  Then all of a sudden in the 90's it just pretty much went away completely.   I really have no clue why.  Maybe the internet and global reporting of all bad things all the time?

A few years ago I was at a family reunion.  Most of my cousins recently have had children with ages between infant to about 4 (About 10 of them in total).  Kids started playing in the water/dirt but most of them didnt have clothing appropriate for getting wet/muddy.  One of my cousins just strips his 2 year old down and sends her out to play.  Another one gets panicky and asks "Is it okay to have them run around naked"?  I responded with:  "The only people here are us and our parents.  Our parents used to strip us down and let us play naked so I highly doubt they will care".

Some public nudity ordinances have an age qualifier.

From Clearwater Florida:
"Person means any live human being ten years of age or older."

I'm rather surprised and dismayed that so many here did not come down on the side of how absurd the beach supervisor and the rule were.

Invite the cops over to look at your nude pics of kids then and tell us all how that works out for you.

Riiiight, coz you're going to jail for a picture of your baby in the bathtub, of your 3 year old running bare-assed away from you.

Now if your pictures are with you doing nasty shiat with your kids, then by all means, call the cops, they'll keep you safe.
