Mark?

Anyway, I'm thinking we want somebody running the city's finances who'd know enough to get some discreet strange without putting his own name on cash transfers to call-girl operations.

Spitzer is a blowhard. Cuomo is a better governor. So was Paterson.

Crap. That should be Eliot. This is why you don't submit headlines at 630 in the morning people!

I'm guessing you combined Mark Sanford and Eliot Spitzer into some kind of super-adulterous governor.

In before the headline gets fixed!

Also, can someone explain how Spitzer will bring activism to this role?

I would absolutely vote for a Spitzer/Weiner ticket, and not just for the lulz and innuendoes.

And I could be wrong as I don't follow NY state politics closely but I don't recall Spitzer ever denying boinking a hooker. He simply resigned when caught.

At least you know he's honest about cash. His love of numbers demanded that he properly account for his 7-diamond whore buttsex adventures.

Paterson sucked as a governor.  I liked Spitzer better as an AG than governor though I am glad he took down the corrupt as could be Joe Bruno.  I have my moments with Cuomo (gay marriage legalized good, but he seems to be for fracking), but then I remind myself that his major opponent was Crazy Carl Palidino.

/ If I lived in New York City, I'd consider voting for Spitzer and Wiener.

Elliot Spitzer is proof that if you are gonna go after the bankers and Wall Street you better have a completely spotless past or they are gonna dig something up on you.

Thank you NSA for busting Spitzer and protecting the banks.

Just to head off anyone saying I am an idiot for saying the NSA brought Spitzer down:

From Newsweek December 22, 2008: The Fed Who Blew the Whistle

"The NSA, with the secret cooperation of U.S. telecommunications companies, had begun collecting vast amounts of information about the phone and e-mail records of American citizens. Separately, the NSA was also able to access, for the first time, massive volumes of personal financial records-such as credit-card transactions, wire transfers and bank withdrawals-that were being reported to the Treasury Department by financial institutions. These included millions of "suspicious-activity reports," or SARS, according to two former Treasury officials who declined to be identified talking about sensitive programs. (It was one such report that tipped FBI agents to former New York governor Eliot Spitzer's use of prostitutes.) These records were fed into NSA supercomputers for the purpose of "data mining"-looking for links or patterns that might (or might not) suggest terrorist activity."

But wait, the NSA is only about protecting us from terrorism....

Yeah, right.

It got rather obvious after he wasn't able to convict Dick Grasso for robbing the NYSE that Spitzer had made powerful enemies who'd keep him from doing his job. Makes me wonder if a particular high dollar call girl had Ken Langone's number on speed-dial.

He should have never resigned. If David Vitter could survive his prostitution scandal -- and continue to lecture everyone on morals and family values -- so could have Spitzer.

Louisiana is so much different from NY. LA just kind expects personal and moral failures from their politicians.

Not to get into a pissing contest, but the New York State Government is a massive failure. In fact, getting caught using a prostitute is the least of what ends careers in Albany: bribery, extortion, embezzlement, illegal campaign contributions, etc.

The thing that offended New Yorkers about the scandal wasn't necessarily that he patronized a prostitute, but that he 1) railed about prostitutes while he was railing prostitutes, 2) felt the need to buy sex in a town like Albany where it's-not-who-you-know-it's-who-you-blow is common knowledge, and 3) as I noted earlier, paid for his prostitute using a dodgy financial transaction with his real name on it.

Hey, let's put THAT guy in charge of watching the money. (howaboutNO.jpeg)

He'd make a decent assemblyman. Maybe he should run for one the city assembly seats that opens up every couple of weeks when another Democratic assemblyman gets perp-walked.

And then he can go be ambitious. Anybody would be less of a creep as assembly speaker than Shelly Silver.

I know Spitzer was just undercover and was collecting evidence to prosecute the prostitution ring, no hypocrisy here.

I don't get it.  Spitzer is an IDIOT.  Still he was given a high profile job on CNN (which he sucked at) and people consider him for public office after his craptacular scandals.

Pretty much the what is wrong in the U.S. right now... don't vote for idiots!

I've seen Spitzer on Bill Maher's show a bunch of times, and he comes smart as fark. Intelligent, well spoken, saavy.

To be honest, so's LA...problem is LA's poltiicians just do a Jimmy Swaggart and their constituency forgives them.  Weiner and Spitzer had to resign; although in retrospect, should've just stayed on.

Weiner's mistake was that he kept changing his story and made a mockery of himself. Had he just admitted on day 1 that it was his junk and framed the whole thing as an issue between him and his wife, his political career would have been fine.
