A Shambling Mound: No properly-run restaurant anywhere will ever throw raw hamburger patties directly into a dumpster without bagging them.

Have you considered the possibility that this might not be a properly-run restaurant?

Truly, your mastery of inference is dizzying.

Human feed troughs. Just stay the f*ck away from them. I don't care if you want to feed your three kids. Buffett restaurants waste money and fatten your gut. Probably wreck your colon too.

The dude would have blown the whistle if he had simply directed the inspectors to the food by the dumpster.  Instead he help facilitate the deception and made a self-promoting YouTube video.  Considering that the dude is attention-whoring to a high degree, I can't rule out that he was the person who put the food outside in the first place.

HairBolus: Golden Corral made this comment on TheInquisitor article: "Golden Corral Video Shows Food Stored Next To Dumpster To Avoid Health Inspection" (via) Gawker:

This statement seems rather self-contradictory.
1) Why was the manager fired if nothing wrong was done?
2) If the food was being disposed of why wasn't it immediately dumped into the dumpsters rather than being left in a form that could be brought back into the restaurant?

The manager allowed someone with a video camera into the kitchen. Grounds fro termination in any great patriotic American company.

If they were not bagging trash/spoiled food, they would have a rat, mouse, bug, and stench problem very, VERY quickly.  That dumpster area looked to be very clean to me, which leads me to believe that they take care of their trash/disposal area pretty damn well.

I don't know how the inspectors work in Port Orange, but in Broward & Palm Beach counties it is usually a surprise when they arrive.  They are generally around a month after the last check but you never really know.   I've seen places get checked several times in a month because of complaints (mad ex-employees mostly).

almandot: I actually tried that place once when I moved to Orlando. I miss Vegas buffets before they got expensive :/ I'm sure nothing shady has ever happened in Vegas before.

I'll make an unpaid plug for the Gold Coast here. They still have old-fashioned Vegas lures (cheap/decent buffet and cheap/decent rooms) without being a shiathole. It's not a real glamorous place, but if you're just looking for a place to stay, some blackjack and craps tables, video poker bars, and a $10 buffet for dinner, they're all over that, and you don't feel like you need a shower after walking through it.

That's a funny one. You think inspectors aren't in the pockets of some people at least in some areas? Do you think snitches keep jobs or get another job locally one fired? How about local police intimidation for trying to upset the rotten apple cart?

I still get emails from Gold Coast from the few times I stayed there in early 2000s. Was good enough for my needs but anytime I've gone back since its been with my wife and we want to stay in the whoopdeedoo resorts.

30 years ago Golden Corral was a decent steak house.  It was a place you could get a steak, potato and salad bar (not a buffet bar) for a fair price.   Not fancy, but certainly not a dump.

I miss that version of Golden Corral.

I was in Texas for flight attendant school in 2001. On the weekends they gave vouchers for local restaurants, and one weekend it was the Golden Corral. My roommate and I got food poisoning. I made myself throw up when I started to feel bad. He didn't. I was sick all weekend. He was hospitalized for 6 days and almost died.

FU(K GOLDEN CORRAL. I swear to god, I'll go without food for days before I ever ate there again.

Just think - The owner of this restaurant in question also owns the restaurant you ate at.

Enjoy your night now...

IIRC, those photos were taken at a California location, days after an inspection, and the posting of these pics to the internet, prompted a secondary surprise inspection.

I worked at a Fresh Choice buffet as a baker for over a year. Basically the same thing but with a healthy theme.

Buffets are gross. The customers are gross. The managers are gross.

Our location (santa rosa plaza, ca) had giant rats running through the kitchen area. Workers who could not speak english, would not wash their hands, and would not wear gloves. Managers were given bonuses if when they fired employees they were able to do  it without giving unemployment.

I was fired for refusing to serve dirty spoiled food (I ran the bakery area). Best firing of my life. Will never work in foodservice again.

Did anyone else besides me notice that the dumpster issue was the least of their problems.  The farking kitchen was worse than I've ever seen any kitchen ever, and I've worked events where we've served hundreds of people at SIMULTANEOUSLY and the kitchen had been obliterated.

I still don't understand why the food was out by the dumpster though.  Was it to hide food that wasn't labeled and dated?  That's what I'm not getting.

Looks like closing. At closing (after all customers are gone) this is almost normal. The cooks,
servers bring everything to the dish area and it can get messy like that. Just as long nothing dirty is put on clean items it will all work out.

When my friends were in India a few years ago, they sent me an article about a fellow who was butchering meat in a public restroom and selling it. The officials were having a hard time getting him to move out.

I wonder if the number of immigrants in the country running these sorts of places plays a role in the poor handling of food. In some countries, they just don't have the concepts down yet and most of their people are already immune to diseases like Hepatitis A.

There are really no Golden Corrals in Central Pennsylvania anymore, and the Mechanicsburg location was shut down by the Health Department and is now home to a Fire Mountain. Any Central PA FARKers on here remember hearing about that? Golden Corral kind of earned this reputation a long time ago to me.
