This isn't something terribly unusual enough to warrant a newsflash tag.  Dozens of planes fall out of the sky here in Alaska every summer.

There's like a bajillion planes up there, it's more newsworthy that it doesn't happen more than it does.

Old news: shark attacks.

New News: plane crashes.

This one was supposed to make a water landing (the Otter is a seaplane), and missed (judging from the photo). Damn.

de Havilland DHC3 Otter

Rode in one of those when I visited Alaska. I must say I felt much more comfortable when we were flying over the water. Not sure if that's any safer if something goes wrong, though.

Scratch that -- it reportedly crashed after taking off, which would explain why it's on land.

I'll shut up now.

But this is right after another highly publicized crash, so it has to be put everywhere.  PLANES ARE FALLING OUT OF THE SKY, PEOPLE!  THIS IS THE FIRST WAVE!!!!!!

The CAA really issued that tail number? Somewhere there's an administrator that didn't see that one slip through.

Great little plane.  I logged quite a few jumps out of an Otter at Skydive Chicago a number of years ago.

Common enough with the plane crashes already.

Taking Korean air from Jakarta to Seoul then to Toronto next Tuesday.

Statistically, isn't it safer to fly a plane after a recent newsworthy plane crash?

Only if you give them enough time to fix whatever problems caused the crash.

I have to go to Seattle in Aug. to mix FOH audio for a festival and I think maybe renting a car and just driving is safer.  These motherf*ckers  been falling down a lot lately.

This pilot is going to have a lot of explaining to do, regarding why he left port destined for a crash without a full complement of Palins.

Yep. Or Ayla. That show somehow made me realize that hey, some Eskimo chicks are hawt. It's like the Asian thing for me, though, I feel like it needs to be like half white, half ethnicity. Not sure if racist or if it just changes the gene pool enough for me to think it's hot. I'm not sure. But I find both of the Tweto daughters to be very attractive.

What makes this a little more terrible is this happened to a four plane company and this crash took out their biggest plane and the owner of the company.  It sounds like something that could take out the whole company, small as it is.

/losing ten lives is terrible enough without watching others lose their livelihood.

As I said, as long as Ariel Tweto doesn't die in a crash, it's all cool.

Spent a season in Alaska flying through the mountains.

Company lost 3 airplanes, one fatal.

Nearly caught a mountain myself. Also a near mid air collision. Never been so close to another airplane in flight in my life. Still don't know how we missed.

Can't beat the view though.

Statistically, no.  Probabilistically, yes.

I didn't get a greenlight for the Long Beach plane crash but now the plane crash trifecta is complete.

2013-07-08 12:21:24 PM
So why is it that this crash, which had more fatalities than the SF crash, doesn't warrant a Newsflash tag and has gotten only a handful of comments?

It's a passenger plane. It crashed. Lots of people died.

Flying is significantly safer than driving. More people died in car accidents yesterday than plane crashes the past year.
