FTA:  "The investigation revealed that both suspects were engaged in an argument with the owner of the Ready Go Market, when Sanchez produced a machete, striking the owner and causing a large laceration to the victim's right hand. "

Ok, so he was carrying a machete while he was just out for a normal day?  Who just carries a machete around? It's not like it's comfortable and easy to take with you.

Properly implemented Stand Your Ground and shall-issue laws would have prevented this tragedy as the store clerk could have fired to kill the second he felt afraid.

I've heard Websites show Mexican cartel wars where masked cowards offer free machete lessons to helplessly-bound victims. Really, Mexico, WTF is up with your machete fascination?

/You need a 2nd amendment.

How does one draw the two machetes (machetti?) on the chest? the taper of the holster is downward to counteract gravity, implying they need to be drawn from the blade end, risking a nasty finger cut....

I think every knife on his outfit is secured with at least twin ties.  I can't see a single one that could possibly be drawn even slightly quick.  The whole thing is a Hollywood wardrobe invention to look cool, not to actually function in any logical way.

Plus, if he ever falls down, or even bumps into anything with any force, he's a dead man.

*sigh* This is a well known supertactical adaptation invented by the masters of the  machet, the escrimadatores of the southern jungles, who took the use of this fearsome h2h weapon to unpredictable heights in the annals of CQC. While some of the older practitioners(Maestrodores) out there have various statements to make about their art and life's work, most modern practitioners agree that the angle of the "launch chassis'(sorry the REAL word is untranslateable from the original indigenous warrior concept) is up to the individual, but the "idea" is that you grasp both handles at once and slice, not shear, laterally out of the leather, through the laces. Proper stance training and elbow placement mean the blades are immediately brought into play in a vicious bilateral cut that should incapacitate or decapacitate an opponent in well under a second, not unlike trimming a short flat-topped shrub. It's a bit like the fabled Yaido of Nipponese ninjitsu, although I think all would agree that the myth of the samurai sword versus the adapted implements of the fierce native warrior arts has long been put to bed by many authors and the "machet" technique is clearly the more deadly.

In short, you pull the machets sideways from their holsters, kill your quarry and before the next battle, you take the time, and the resources, to sit still, and contemplate all reality and sew them back together again. It's a religious act for many true practitioners, but Hollywood, as always, turned it into cheap thrills. But for your own sake, and the sake of basic human decency, respect the maestrodores and their escrimatodores for what it is: a deadly, deadly, ancient art of fighting that few appreciate.

Your point?

It was working class then, and it's working class now. With arguably more economic opportunities now, the city is booming in many ways.

Doesn't mean poverty like that doesn't exist in any city in america of significant size.

It's not a pretty city today, I doubt it was back in the day either.

You can grab two random pictures and imply... What? Poor, disenfranchised people?

Hey now, what are you guys doing?  Pointing out the obvious flaws in B-movies is freakin' boring, nobody would ever want to watch that.
