(C|Net)   A proud day for Google Glass, as man captures the first fight followed by an arrest via Google Glass. Who knew a fight could happen on the Jersey Boardwalk, by the way?   (news.cnet.com) divider line 111

I would have thought the first fight captured by Google Glass would include a close up of a fist impacting the wearers face. Dorky farking bastards.

I'm looking forward to the first video of the police beating someone's ass for wearing it during a traffic stop.

Nice to see glass is getting some attention again, its almost as if something very detrimental to its image was in the news the last few weeks.  Something that might make people rethink the idea of having a double-camera'd device on their heads 24/7 that's owned by Google and who's "Only when you want it to" recording devices store to the cloud where its completely safe from anyone ever seeing it again.  Pinky swear.

PC LOAD LETTER: I'm looking forward to the first video of the police beating someone's ass for wearing it during a traffic stop.

More like someone with funny-looking prescription glasses being arrested under the presumption that they are Google Glasses, then having the arrest readjusted as "disorderly conduct", with all the other dashcam video "missing".

And those glasses being broken during an unfortunate stretch of "bumpy road" while en route to booking.

Damn.  Beat me to it.

You'd think the guy could look at a few girls here and there.  But thank you subby for reminding me of the sweaty mass of testosterone and desperation that is too many places on the Jersey shore on any given night during the summer.

I'm more interested in them for potential medical applications rather than their ability to record Jersey Shore

Which gets planted in the glasses-wearing "perp"'s glove compartment.

No one in that busy crowd even looked at the guy wearing his Google Glass. Not even the cops who he walked up next to. The future versions will look less obvious. Tinted glass and or even designer models.

All I could think of when watching that was how much the mean IQ of the U.S. would increase instantaneously if everyone on that boardwalk was exterminated. I'm guessing 3 to 5 points, which is pretty good considering the U.S. population is just north of 310 million.

Probably. Cameras built into glasses is not a Google invention.

The most significant benefit of Google Glass will be the demise of vertical video.

I do find it amusing that people get butthurt over vertically-oriented video.

The mid-shot clockwise camera rotation was popularized by Hitchcock.

The funny part is that with the resultant matting to 9:16 the video is easily 1/4 size when you watch it on a mobile device.

2013-07-07 04:10:56 PM
People get their phones snatched out of their hands frequently here in the SF Bay Area. It seems like it would be harder to hang onto a pair of glasses, if someone wanted to walk up behind you and take them.

I also predict that people wearing these things will be targeted for hostility so much that many of them will decide it's not worth whatever amazing benefits they provide.

Personally, I would view anyone wearing glass the same way I would view someone walking around with their phone's camera obviously pointed at me. I would not be happy with them.

UsikFark: The funny part is that with the resultant matting to 9:16 the video is easily 1/4 size when you watch it on a mobile device.

Yes, that's a problem, but that's not a problem inherent in vertical video. I know we all want to be shooting in breathtaking, sweeping Cinemascope but vertical video has its uses.

That was pretty much like real life.

BTW,

The kind of douche who would wear Glass is in a place where two other douches get in a fight.
