So... it's three and a half years out and the GOP already lost Florida?
That's gotta be a record.

His age notwithstanding I still think Colon Powell should be President before he passes on.

I though so as well for a brief period between Bushes, but the man seems to have to real drive or opinion of his own. He seems like a good and loyal advisor (and he mostly advises caution, which is refreshing in Washington), but not a leader.

Carrying The Shrub's water at the UN destroyed any chance he had, which was a pretty good one. I'd have voted for him.

I don't want to see a Republican in the big seat either, but for the love of sanity, isn't there ANYONE else in a population of 300 million people to run?  Really?  Another legacy?

Unfortunately, most people smart enough for the job are smart enough to stay away from the whole mess.

The question is, are young people dumb enough to really vote for her? How many times do people have to be fooled and embarrassed before they stop making the same dumb mistakes?

"Legacy" is kind of a strong word, as she actually has the legit credentials to back it up.

What do you mean by this? When you say shiat like that, you MUST know that people are going to ask for explanations.

Colin Powell has been mentioned several times, and when asked years ago whether he would ever consider running said "There is no way I way I would put my family through that" (maybe not an exact quote, but pretty close).

So, yeah; the people that run are the ones that are crazy enough or egocentric enough to not care.

Coincidentally, she will be Reagan's age in 2016, and if she gets elected, will be the second oldest person ever elected to either a first or second term of presidency.

Well, it's been almost 210 years since we had a president that wasn't a Republican or a Democrat, so we can start with that as a minimum estimate.

And I looked at Pierce's birth, not term of office, so it's actually been been 160 years.  Oops.

2013-07-07 09:29:47 AM
It sort of depends on who the Republicans would run against her, but coming from the party that has long venerated the elder statesman it's practically a tacit endorsement of Clinton.

The concentration of stupid in the GOP is breathtaking.

cman: His age notwithstanding I still think Colon Powell should be President before he passes on.

Powell made too many costly mistakes with Iraq for me to trust him. It's a shame, because otherwise he seems like a good man. But there are some things you just can't forgive, or forget. Still, if he were ever inclined to run (not likely), I wouldn't put it past the GOP to cynically run him as part of their failing "outreach" program. Thing is, we've already had a non-white president. It's no longer a historical milestone. I presume they'll nominate a woman before another black-ish guy.

The one who convinced people that Saddam had WMD.

What successful experience does she have? A failed SoS tenure? Ethical lapses left and right? We could grab a better president out of a random pick from a random phone directory.

But by all means, let's elect another president who makes us "feel good".

Sure, if you ignore her experience and just cast aspersions, she seems bad. Not that you've supported or proven anything, of course, you just said "she sucks because I say so and her experience and education count for nothing, also because I said so."

Smeggy Smurf: Yeah because bringing up age worked so well against Reagan.

Yup...Clinton can always respond by referencing her "younger, less experienced" colleagues in D.C.

Oh wait, so far her critics aren't younger.

Great strategy, GOP.

dickfreckle: I presume they'll nominate a woman before another black-ish guy.

I take that back. The GOP might tight-lip tolerate a black guy at the national level, but if there's one thing they still can't figure out, it's how to respect women. What I meant is that running a guy like Powell is no longer a big deal because we already have a basketball player in office.

Dude, it's 8:40 CST, I have no coffee, and am hungover. Most of my posts for the next hour are going to be stupid.

It's the overall GOP strategy that's screwed: 'The Dhimmycraps SUCK' is not a compelling reason to vote GOP anymore.

Smeggy Smurf: Yeah because bringing up age worked so well against Reagan.

Yeah...this is more shiat that won't stick to the wall.   What the fark are they paying these advisors?  It won't work, it won't attract voters, it won't change many minds.  It will serve only to appeal to their base...who weren't going to vote for Clinton anyways.

This idea that the GOP has, originating with Rove, that they have to keep their base motivated, has been totally divested from the other half of that plan:  you still have to attract moderate "independents", or at the very least, not alienate them.  They'd better find a way to get moderates interested in voting in primaries.

Every MEDIA discussion. I don't recall any instant of Obama, Clinton or the Democratic party disparaging McCain's age.

I'd love to see you prove this.

I do recall conversations about how his age could lead to a Palin presidency, but your claim is that "every discussion" was that. Even allowing for hyperbole, show me that MOST were.
