That's a lot of rules.

DeWayne Mann: That's a lot of rules.

Why, it's almost as if these contests are sanctioned in an organized and structured manner.

No ump mikes in the video I saw  :-(

But yeah, someone screwed up.

Embedded video in the link. Nothing amazing, just the ump saying "batting out-of-order."

i love it when weird rules come into play.  not that batting out of order is a weird rule, but i've never heard of a team making that mistake.  i wonder whose fault it is, you think someone in the dugout would have been paying attention.

What's great is that by doing this, had Posey been out and Sandoval went up to bat, if he got a base hit, Pence would be called out for batting-out-of-order (and Sandoval's chance would've been skipped entirely, with the next inning starting with Belt).

There was a baseball rules quiz posted a few weeks ago with a batting out of order question. I think it was based on a real incident from this season. Nobody noticed in time.

Jim Murray was one of the great writers of my youth.  He made me interested in sports I didn't care a whit about - like boxing - simply because he wrote so well about them.  He was a joy to read, no matter the subject.  I miss him.

i was at a giants game a long time ago in which they batted out of order.  they were playing the braves and i think it was joe carter that batted out of order.  the PA announcer initially was confused, they had the wrong picture on the scoreboard, they braves didn't seem to notice or care since they were up by 6 or 7 runs at the time

It was a good day, even if it started out stupid.

Was watching it at BWW while waiting for the UFC prelims to start. No sound, and couldn't figure out why Posey was out, but batting again. Thank you to the Googles...

I was chatting with a Little League coach a few days ago, this topic came up.I asked how could a coach let this happen. He said a kid will get distracted(kids gotta take a leak) the next batter will cover for him and go up to the plate...He didn't answer my question..Apparently some coaches have the same attention span as some kids..

I love hearing umps talk to each other / coaches. Very disappointing to us baseball nerds.

Oh, and Ha! Ha!

My guess is that there was a wrong lineup card in the Giants dugout (or the wrong ones were distributed). I recall seeing that a time or two in the past.

That the Giants won easily despite the batting order mistake?  Was that hard to understand?
