Does anyone else think it's awesome that his nametape says Wales?
Also, wasn't he a tanker like 3 or 4 years ago? Can he just change MOS on a whim? You know, because he's the prince and his last name is farking Wales?

He's given a bit of leeway to choose his specialty.  As a Royal, he's supposed to familiarize himself with all branches of the military. However, that doesn't mean he gets a free ride in an Apache.  He had to qualify, just like anybody else after basic flight training, to move on to Apache training.  From what I've read so far, he aced his quals and passed with flying colours, and was not given preferential treatment.

There's another thing the founding fathers left out of the Constitution. What to do if the King of England has an Apache helicopter.

I figured he'd have to qualify. I think it would be awesome in the military if you get bored to just up and switch jobs. Tanks are cool! I'm bored with tanks, I wanna fly a helicopter! Helicopters are fragile, I wanna be a nuke! The living conditions on subs are rough, I wanna be a grunt! That was a mistake, back to tanks!
That would be so much cooler. I'd have stayed in if I could do that.

Well they are legal if you have the time and money to get the paper work for a destructive device.

He was allowed to change MOS, because he actually wanted to fight. Whether it was his father, grandmother or the military itself he was not going to be allowed out on the front lines in a tank.

But that doesn't stop some of the commentators in the original article from spewing some weapons-grade derp.

I think I need to scrub my brain after reading some of those.

IIRC, he was fighting as a grunt in Afghanistan for awhile until the press ran with it.

A gentle reminder that the only reason royalty are actually royalty is that they can kick your farking ass. That's not quite as important as it used to be, since now we fight with money and lawyers as well as guns but thus is ever was and shall be in the end. Young Hank is apparently cut from the very, very old cloth indeed. Even his given name means "ruler of the land".

Do you see the violence inherent in the system?

Solon Isonomia: IIRC, he was fighting as a grunt in Afghanistan for awhile until the press ran with it.

He was a forward observer. Basically, a scout that called in enemy movements and air strikes. Not the same thing as an infantryman but plenty dangerous in its own right.

Granted, he had better security than most observers would, since his unit was made up almost entirely of SAS (the original and best special forces soldiers in the world) and Gurkhas (the most dangerous human beings on the planet).

We take it away from him like the leader of a client state that he is.

Though, I'd argue that being the king of an Apache Longbow is better than being King o' Jolly Ol' Ang'lun'.
