Good riddance.  As a Laker fan, I am used to my demanding divas actually having accomplished something before the team kisses their ass.  The billboards, the banners...disgusting.  Howard has accomplished exactly dick.  Don't offer the world to guys like that.  Shaq, Kobe...pains in the ass both, but they got the job done.

Good luck in the ass crack of Texas, where the demands on you won't be so great, and you only have to live in the shadow of one great player instead of a dozen, Dwight Coward.

Are they not announcing it because they're working on a sign and trade? That way Dwight can get the max term and Lakers can get something back since they're over the cap anyway and can't sign FAs.

/I can dream.

I'd agree, except cap space isn't going to mean anything if we can't lure anyone here . We keep making offers that include lots of money, a good market, and lots of future potential talent with cap space, and it doesn't seem to be selling well.

Exactly dick is what the Lakers will accomplish next year. They would have had at least double dick if Howard had stayed. Move on, Laker fan.

Its not like the Lakers accomplished anything this past season, unless getting swept out of the first round of the playoffs is an accomplishment.

It is hard to move on when some drama queen is dragging out the process like a little biatch.  Even if Howard stayed with the Lakers, they wouldn't do shiat this year.  The plan is for next season, when they will have massive cap space (only one player under contract.)

I just wanted to guy to shiat or get off the pot, hopefully choosing to leave, as while he was an upgrade from Andrew Bynum, he wasn't much of one, and he was a clown.

Not yet? From the LA Times:

"Multiple media outlets reported that Dwight Howard agreed to join the Houston Rockets, but in a curious twist, his agent denied a deal was done and the Lakers still had not been told of Howard's decision as of late Friday afternoon."

That is weird. I keep hearing things about how Cuban is by far the best owner in all of sports and really takes care of his entire team. But he keeps wiffing on the big name free agents... I realize all of Texas is Christo-Republican shiathole but Howard, Lin and Beardo all went to Houston so it's gotta be something else... Wonder what it is.

I don't know. Ive lived in texas my whole life and houston is generally the most frowned upon city by the general consensus, with abiline and el paso placing 2nd and 3rd.

Not saying they ARE that bad, but thats certainly most of the opinions.

Bad move for Howard - In L.A. he was a 7/5/4/6.2 but going to Houston he falls to a 7/5/4/1.3

That's what I'm thinking but the first three could change to now that he's out of L.A.

Championships are pretty far down his itinerary. If all he wanted was a championship, he'd want a trade to Chicago back in 2011-12, when it was a real possibility. The Bulls would have significant strengths exactly where Miami has weaknesses (PG and C). The fact that he didn't want to go to Chicago, only NJ, spoke volumes about his championship aspirations. His first press conference after the trade, he didn't say championship or title once. Everyone picked up on it, but we kind of ignored initially b/c he hadn't shared a locker room w/ Kobe. Pau was talking about winning titles right away. I hope Harden and McHale are made of stern stuff, b/c they're going to have to pamper him some more and more. Would the Rockets fire McHale if Howard asked them to? What if Harden wanted McHale to stay? And will Howard actually develop a few more post moves? Will he actually run a pick and roll w/ Harden and/or Lin (assuming Linsanity isn't sign-and-traded).

Meanwhile, the Lakers are all in on LeBron 2014. I don't think they have any other moves before that. Kobe, Pau, and Nash might make another 7 seed (Pau should get a lot better w/o Howard in the middle, just like they rarely played Bynum/Pau in the fourth quarter when they won two titles). And D'antoni has to go, but Jimmy Buss is too farking stupid to admit everything he's tried is crap (Mike Brown, D'antoni). Also wonder if it's time for Kupchak to check out. Mainly for his own benefit. A GM that good shouldn't have to slum it for Jimmy Buss, the epitome of apples falling 10 nautical miles from the tree. Jeanie, get your brother out of there!

Trocadero: Meanwhile, the Lakers are all in on LeBron 2014.

They best have a Plan B. I only see Miami or Cleveland giving LeBron what he really needs: a legacy. If he stays in Miami, he's their Jordan. If he goes to Cleveland he's the Prodigal Son who gives his home town their happy ending.

What does he get in LA? The right to spend the rest of his career and retirement years being compared to the dozen other great Lakers of the past--and dozens of other LA sports heroes in general.

Naw, I'm starting to think me might be losing it too.

He said that Mike D'Antoni was a better fit for their roster than Phil Jackson and he said that Dwight Howard would have a statue outside Staples Center one day.

Eh I don't think Miami gets a "Jordan", even if they pull off a few more titles. They don't care enough about sports to deify someone to that level.

But I do agree LeBron isn't going to LA. I think he's going to stay in Miami because he's got a serious man crush on Wade, and he's too loyal to his people to see they aren't winning any more titles there with that Big Three.

/can't see him going to Cleveland either with Captain Comic Sans still owning the team
//though if he does decide to go back there I hope he announces it via a special on ESPN so the Cleveland fans' heads collectively explode trying to rationalize why that'd be OK

And I know Ryan Anderson wasn't on that team, but with Howard he made a ton of threes and could replace Rashard in that role.

Ryan Anderson would be a much better match than Smith.  A big who can shoot forces Ds to pull one of their bigs from the paint giving Dwight one on ones and rebound opportunities.  Too bad Dwight doesn't have the post moves he thinks he has and his well below average free-throw shooting pretty much negates the benefits of this pairing.  But on paper... go ahead and crown their asses!

I saw a bunch of him last year.  It's tough to judge a guy on one year with a new team.  Chemistry and familiarity are huge in basketball.  I was a little disappointed in his defense especially in the GS series. But he's a great passer,  plays good team defense but wasnt the shutdown guy I wanted him to be.  He'll be a great fit in GS because he's actually a team player who is great at the little things and he'll be in a situation where won't be pushed into a scoring role.
