Ooba Tooba: "Dead man" is the best film he starred in. The supporting cast is unbeatable. And Neil Young playing guitar sans vocals for the soundtrack. Best film ever!

THIS.

"I could see Depp doing a wacky Martian Manhunter"

I think he'd make a better Elongated Man, that is if the Dibny's weren't deceased.
Unless they aren't any longer.
/this new 52 frightens and confuses me.

ThisIsntMe: TheManofPA: Smeggy Smurf: Wait till they make him the Goddamned Batman for the Justice League movie(s)

I could see Depp doing a wacky Martian Manhunter

I'd watch that. But only if Eddie Murphy is Lex Luthor and Tommy Lee Jones is Otis.

I am crestfallen that I will never get to see that.

Turk from Scrubs for Cyborg
Nic Cage for Hawkman
Ryan Ryenolda for Flash, Chris Evans for Aquaman (cant be a superhero movie without Chris and Ryan!)

Wait, does this mean Helena BBonham Carter would be repeatedly corn holed by a Dr. Light stand in to the strains of Danny Elfman?

If People magazine offered this writer 20 million to do fluff pieces, would he/she take it? My hunch is "yes."

And it's not like the blockbusters Depp does are completely terrible. He's not pulling a Nick Cage, here. Besides, the dude is 50 and probably thinking about what he can leave for his loved ones. 20 million a pop can buy you a lot of stability and peace of mind.

When Depp agrees to a film like Ghostrider, get back to me.

The Lone Ranger was a very good movie.  It paints the military and big business as villains. This is why the fascist media is trying to destroy it. Heroes don't fight the establishment.  That is bad programming for the debt slaves in our times.

What happened after Edward Sissorhands? Well it stopped being 1990, he turned 30 and kept maturing. As did his movies.  And in my opinion a lot of his later movies (above) are his best.

One of my personal favorites:

Seconded. Best Tim Burton flick (certainly of the live action variety) and fave Depp flick. So, so underrated a flick.

That's also the last time Burton worked from an original screenplay. Everything since then has been an adaptation or a remake.

/And it was 20 years ago and you are old.

He's done transvestite.

He's done Hunter S. Thompson.

Anyone else fancy seeing a Live Action Venture Bros movie?

Quick, start Patrick Warburton on a course of HGH, we need him to be bigger.

I can get behind this.

I'm so mad about Dark Shadows. Depp & Burton were such big fans of the series, they said. I was really looking forward to it, and then I got THAT.

Not to crap on Depp or FALILV but Where The Buffalo Roam with Bill Murray as HST is far better.

Hollie Maea: Soy Cowboy: I thought he was good in Rum Diary. I think he should make movies for all of Hunter S. Thompson's books. Hell, I think he should do enough acid so that he thinks he's Hunter S. Thompson, write a book as Hunter S. Tompson, then convert that book into a movie. My amusement requires it.

Hell, he could make a short film based on that time that Hunter S. Thompson called tech support and I would be happy.

I never get tired of hearing that phone call.

I think he's great.  He shows up as Jack Sparrow to children's hospital (that in of itself is amazing), and at 50 he's still getting paid and seemingly loving life.

As for movies, I loved him in Once Upon a Time in Mexico.  He had all the best lines and scenes, plus his little monologue about puerco pibil and restoring the balance is just outstanding.  Man, I've got to watch that flick again.

/liked The Tourist
//mainly because I was just in Venice when that movie came out
///He was good in that too

Medic Zero: Pumpernickel bread: I bet the author is one of those guys that professes to like obscure indie bands, but disowns them and calls them sellouts once they become popular. This is still the same Johnny drop that dresses up as jack sparrow to visit kids in the hospital

Came here to say this...

Yep. Hate him or his roles all you want- he's a real-life good guy.

Seriously. Terry Gilliam adapted a nigh-unfilmable book and made it work, and Depp (a close personal friend of HST, may he rest in drugs/alcohol/violence/insanity) pulled off the good Dr. to a T.

Enough reason for me to "favorite" you. One of my all time fav writers/book/movie.

Really? I never would've guessed.

Imagine grabbing some random dude off the street to try and act like HST and you have imagined that abortion of a movie.
