(ESPN)   "How do the 13 college teams that lost lottery picks plan to move on in 2013-14?" Including poor ol' U of K, which is bringing in the most absurd recruiting class of all-time. Oh, noes. WOE BE ONTO THEM HOW WILL THEY MOVE ON?   (espn.go.com) divider line 22

Why aren't these kids making money in Europe? Can't they sign pro deals at 13-14, like Tony Parker?

Brandon Jennings tried that, it wasn't a disaster, but it didn't work out that well for him. The guys who played in China during the lockout apparently didn't enjoy themselves that much.

Been done. Players have even sued to try and overturn the NBA's one year rule. If you go overseas it's a lot harder to be noticed by the NBA although not impossible since plenty of Euros make it to the league these days. Still, playing for a big name school like Kentucky or Kansas is pretty much the best way to audition for the NBA. Plus in the case of UK you still get paid.

Yeah, China had all sorts of crazy opt-out rules, and several Euro teams as well (Ricky Rubio got drafted but couldn't get over until MIN paid the ransom, er, transfer fee). In baseball, to get Asian pros/vets you have to pay transfer fees, like Euro soccer. Guess something similar goes on in basketball. Dunno how much it cost to get Parker, Ginobli, Nowitzki, etc. Seems like they were free drafts (out of contracts/NBA opt-out clauses).

The same way all the other colleges that lost players will? Which is all of them because you only get to keep the players for four, five years max? This is not a new thing. College is not a place where you get to hang onto a player for 20 years.

Didn't they have a ridiculous class the year before too?  Lot of good it did them.

Then they get into the NBA, become part of the players' union, and suddenly support the one-year rule.

/college baseball's model is the ideal - either you go pro straight away, or you sign to play with a college and aren't eligible until your junior year

Meh, they said that last year too. Put in on the court and play ball before you start running it.

No one says "U of K" except for Louisville fans who say it because it might bother a UK fan.  It's the sports equivalent of saying "Democrat Party".

This is 100% true.

Best recruiter I ever saw I tell ya.  He could sell ice cubes to an Eskimo along with the extended service plan to boot.  Goes by the name of Benjamin Franklin, but everyone just calls him Ben.

Try two years ago. It did them enough good to win the championship.

Last year they had one really good player who got injured mid season.

It's certainly not enough for championships, but it's better to have one than not have one. And for Calipari's system, ridiculous classes can't do much without a good point guard.

Kansas will be better than Kentucky this year.

My words. Mark them.

That's precisely how I knew a little brother fan submitted the link.

There's a reason nobody wanted a top 5 draft pick this year.  It was the weakest group of HS seniors in at least 40 years.  A really really bad time to have to restock a roster.  Other than Noel, there's a very good chance not a single one of those guys could have earned a starting spot in '13-'14 over the guys that are coming in.

The Wolves didn't pay a ransom for Rubio. They tried too, but due to some strange NBA rules, they couldn't. He played out his contract in Spain then came over.

Coach Cal is as dirty as hell, but he'll never get caught.  I think Kentucky will get a perfect season this year.  I mean, not legitimately, but whatever.

Does it matter? I've been led to believe that all of college sports will fall before one Andrew Wiggin, and if he's half as good at basketball as his brother is at genocide, well then the season is already over.

I don't think Euro Squads want to be a free babysitter for a year (or two). While the Euro League isn't as good as the NBA, they are years better than college game.

In college, the players can dominate against less talented, less experienced, less physically developed kids as opposed to riding the pine in Europe.
