Yeah, yeah, yeah.  Water wet, sky blue, day ending in Y.

Focus on the Family's movie review sitealso slammed Tonto for not being a Christian: "Tonto's worldview, meanwhile, is awash in Native American spirituality. As mentioned, he believes the white horse (Silver) is a spirit horse."

You know who else believes in spiritual white horses?

When the hell did a Lone Ranger movie become about Tonto?  Sure, Johnny Depp is a star.  But last time I checked, he's a sidekick, not the main character of that story.

/wonders no more why it bombed at the box office

I love that even acknowledging the existence of non Christians, even fictional ones, gets these people's panties in a knot.

It seems to me as if the god these people follow is pretty sickly and weak. I mean if he's that threatened by the mere mention of paganism...well, it's not a good sign, is it?

Between conservatives hating it and the pc-looney crowd hating it, I'm tempted to watch it just to piss them off.

Stop anthropomorphizing the old, white male with a beard who lives in the clouds and wears sandals and had a son!  You diminish Him!

Everyone else seems to hate it for other reasons, probably because it sucks (24% on rotten tomatoes).

Wasted outrage.  By all accounts this movie will likely make Water World seem brilliant.

/WW wasn't that bad, just over-priced.

Went on my lunch break and saw it.

Not bad, not great either. Does what I thought it did and recounts the Lone Ranger mostly through Tonto's eyes. Shut off your brain for a few hours and its decent popcorn fodder.

I it was actually released on Wednesday so it would be in theaters for the July 4th holiday. So far, it has gotten its ass kicked hard by Despicable Me 2 and this weekend shows no signs of being any different. For a movie that inexplicably cost $215 million it is on track to be a John Carter sized bomb. Luckily, Disney has Iron Man 3 and Monsters University to bail them out this summer.

Which was a pretty good movie. Not terribly deep or involved, but it had a much better story than the first one and all the characters were funny and engaging. And the evil minions were hilarious.

I'm somewhat surprised at the largely negative reception this movie has garnered. In my unprofessional opinion it's a fun, generally lighthearted action adventure with above average comedic touches. Using Depp as the unreliable narrator was the film's one stroke of brilliance as it helps to explain the inexplicable over-the-top scenes. Because it's his story he's recounting you realize they're hugely embellished and simply don't represent reality, unlike in other action movies where they're presented as if they were fact. It's subtle, but effective. My biggest complaint was the flesh-eating antagonist as he seemed to clash with the good-natured tone of the film.

Bottom line: if you're looking for an entertaining distraction you should give this movie a shot.

Which was surprisingly good as well. I was actually expecting it to suck, but it managed to be an excellent Disney flick and a decent Pixar flick.

Yes.  Heck, they'll probably attack movies for having Catholic priests and/or nuns in them soon.

I'm really getting sick of the whole "all a summer movie needs to do is let you shut off your brain for a few hours" excuse. That's just a way of saying "yeah, it's a bad movie, but I've really wanted it to be a good movie for the last 3 months and now I can't admit that I spent money on it."

If you want to shut off your brain for a few hours, there's reality TV, and surfing YouTube.

Has any western in the last 30 years been considered exciting by anyone?

Horses? Dull.
Six Shooters? Man, I can kill 120 guys in Call of Duty:Black Ops
Trains? TRAINS??!?!?!

I mean, COME ON! there's not even a giant mechanical spider at the end.

Are there any Turkish-made films that depict the Armenian Genocide decently?

Its a great action flick, I generally thought it was assumed you just turn your brain off for all action movies because of the silliness of it.

There's nothing wrong with that, Disney isn't exactly known for high brow films these day anyway.

A buddy of mine was on a road trip to CA with one of his buddies a couple weeks ago.  On the way back they stopped at MT Rushmore and met this super old native American guy (like in his 80s).  So anyway, they get on the topic of religion and the old guy tells them this story.  One day (prob 60 years ago) him and his friends were out doing some ceremonial dance and these christians were going up to them, and telling them it was the devil in them, and they have to convert to Christianity.  The NA guys told them, we don't push our shiat on you, so you shouldn't push their shiat on us, and if you keep doing it we're gonna burn their church down.  They kept doing it, and later that night they burned their church down.  He said he was laughing about, saying we burned that mofarker down, it was awesome.
