I bet I know the guy. Gas MGs are used for reenacting (way cheaper than blanks that run $0.50 each) and I bet this guy got thrashed and thought it's be a great idea to take out his Halftrack. Sure, I joked about getting the Enfield No. 5 and some blanks out last night but I wasn't dumb enough to actually do it. And if you own a No. 5, you'll know that blanks produce one helluva fireball at night with that thing.

Not sure if (relatively) subtle sarcasm or not, but just in case it's not-  What exactly would be the non-cattle mentality reaction to seeing an armored vehicle driving around and putting up a pretty good imitation of gunfire?

I'm going to go out on a limb and suggest alcohol was involved...

Township police received multiple calls from residents who reported a man was driving a military vehicle and firing an automatic weapon at crowds of people in the vicinity of Erma Street, police said.

...

When officers arrived, they discovered nobody was injured and they quickly located the vehicle, which turned out to be an antique World War II-era armor-plated vehicle with a replica 50-caliber machine gun mounted. The weapon had been modified to fire compressed gas and emit a bright flash and loud realistic gunfire sounds.

Why? What are they gonna do, shoot him? He's in a tank.

If he would have mounted a bunch of American flags on the tank and screamed "MURICA! FARK YEAH" at the top of his lungs over and over again, surely no one would have given it a second thought, because this is Murica.

Most likely a Ferret. They are pretty common. No tracks -- subby made a leap there. I had a friend who had a Ferret and managed to parked it at Wells Fargo in a space marked "Armored Vehicles Only,"  and managed not to get arrested.

Guy here at work has one.  Building management eventually asked him to stop driving it to work because  it would draw a crowd of folks blocking the parking lot aisles taking pictures of themselves with it.

The gun shop in Warrenton, VA, was selling one. For $30k, he'd mount a Barrett on it and it's yours.

/Farretts are hideous vehicles. As people who have driven it say, the inventor should be punished by spending an eternity driving his own invention - just like the inventor of the Brazen Bull ended up in his invention.

Even if it was a half-track (a buddy of mine has one with quad 50 gas firing replicas), the treads on the majority of the ones in private hands have rubber treads, so no damage to roads. Metal treads are hella expensive and tend to come apart at in opportune times.

Yeah, the attention it got was really something, and he only paid like $17K for it. Needed a lot of work, but it was easy work b/c of the low tech.

Yeah, not comfortable AT ALL. It's cool for a trip to lunch, and I could see a short commute in it for kicks.

SirEattonHogg: I love tanks and armored vehicles.  I'm curious.  What kind of gas mileage does something like a Ferret get?

I think it only went like 40mph, but mileage was fine. I think his had a little 4-cyl diesel, and mileage wasn't a concern.

That explains it.  It seemed like there were a lot of kids spending their life in mom's basement involved in the Tier 6 battles last night.  Teir 5 and 6 are usually my favorite, but I stayed above that after a few games in that range.

Well, it's not quite that simple though. Once the turret starts swinging your direction, it's not going to like such an easy target any more.

[csb]A friend of mine was a Ranger in the 80s. Practicing fighting reactive armor tanks, he would light the tank up with an M-60 so the anti-tank guy could put a rocket on it w/out defeating it on contact. The problem is that the turret would rotate and fire on you in about 1.5 seconds, which is an oh-shiat moment when you're trying to aim at it[/csb]

Ain't that farkin' truth.  That and the 'Mission' to get 3 kills.  Someone on your team gets 3 kills then drives of a cliff so they can hop into another battle fast.   Also think the Credit Card Commandos were out in force with their golden f*ck nugget ammo rounds. Lots of 'derp' games.  A few nights ago I rocked a mighty 30% Win rate (usualy 55%) and survived 3%.

Also, with 8.6, my friends and I have noticed getting 'one-shotted' FAR more often than before.  I think it has to do with Artillery now staying 'in Tier' as opposed to be factored up.
