Weren't the pile of throwing rocks supposed to serve as a deterrent to stop this from happening?

Finally, a clusterfark where we (the US) aren't backing one side or the other (or both, under the table).

We are already involved in that we give Egypt over 1 $billion dollars a year and we've been friendly with their military for decades, providing them training and weapons.

MFAWG: 'Opened fire on' is slightly different than 'exchanged gunfire with'.

Gunfire wasn't exchanged, according to the article.  One side was firing guns, the other side was throwing rocks.

I know that the article's sub-headline says that they exchanged gunfire, but their own article doesn't support that.  Unless we're now considering rocks to be guns.

Shooting unarmed protesters? or are they armed? either way this is a giant boondoggle.

Oh well, I suppose it was to much to hope for: that my government simply could simply do nothing, rather than pour more gasoline on the fire.

We need to add rocks to that list of guns weapons that the media considers to be AK-47s.

Yup.  Your bill for Egypt's military is $5/year.  Pick up that regime, citizen.

Of all the Muslim immigrants I've met from the Arabia / North Africa region, Egyptians are by far the nicest, and the least likely to fit the UNRULY HABIB stereotype.

In Australia, you can even [occasionally] get away with uttering the slang term 'Gyppo with out a whole pile of "oh noes you are a racist!" type grief from the thought police. I know a few Egyptians who happily refer to themselves as 'Gyppos, and wouldn't care if Whitey called them that either.

I wish them well. The world needs nice Muslims.

// racist

I guess these pro Morsi morons can't see that their 40,000 person march dosen't compare to the 14 million people that wanted Morsi gone.

Maybe the next guy Egypt elects won't focus all his energy on strengthening the Brotherhoods power.

I'm fairly confident the Egyptian military is loyal to it's nation and people as a whole and will return democratic processes.  Mainly because not doing so would start to spark dissent within the ranks of the military, leaving the last thing really holding the country together itself crumbling to pieces..
