Oviedo said last night that he felt deceived because he was unaware of the bill's wording. Deputy Justo Orozco said the case must be looked at carefully because 'you can't give certain rights to people who don't deserve them'

It's really not fair to conservatives to submit bills in the form of writing, especially if they have big words.

Alright that's funny right there.

The new text recognizes 'the right to recognition without discrimination contrary to human dignity, social and economic effects of domestic partnerships that constitute publicly, notoriously unique and stable, with legal capacity for marriage for more than three years'.

...um... what?

I was hoping that they accidentally raised taxes on the rich. Nothing causes Republicans so much anguish to the point of spontaneous combustion than raising taxes on the job creators.

Legalizing same-sex marriages is really good too though.

Oviedo, who has previously opposed same-sex unions based on his evangelical beliefs, himself voted for the bill last night.
Oviedo said last night that he felt deceived because he was unaware of the bill's wording

So what he's saying is that he's too lazy to do his job.

It almost looks like they were trying to pass an anti-gay marriage bill and accidentally the whole thing into a pro-gay marriage bill.

Please, Senor Oviedo...enlighten me. In what way do gays not "deserve" to be married?  Hell, I'll ask you to go further and name any "right" that some people "don't deserve".

Chinchilla opposes any amendment of the constitution aimed at separation of church and state in Costa Rica. The constitution currently defines the Republic of Costa Rica as a Roman Catholic nation.

Irrelevant, also inaccurate.  Tacking on riders is always bullshiat, but this language was apparently in the bill from the start.

FTFA:During the discussion in the first debate, we explained that the Law of Young People should be interpreted with this sense of opening to gays and no one objected," Villalta said, according to La Republica.

Also, while the conservative legislators should have been on the ball and HA HA that they didn't read the damn bill.  Doesn't exactly make this win "right" but hey, when an angry mob kills a kid-toucher I'm not going to shed any tears for what was still technically wrong.

Before you get too high and mighty Mr. First World, I would just like to point out that that statement could have just as easily come from one of our very own esteemed Congress Critters and nobody would be even a little bit surprised. Hell, it's tame compared to some of the crap being spewed by our elected officials on a daily basis, and they sure as hell aren't held accountable or made to defend their biases and bigotries. Quite to the contrary, they are lauded and praised for them. The more ignorant and offensive the statement, the louder the praise.

She already said she won't, but one of the articles I was reading said that

A: last polls had 75% of Costa Rica anti-gay marriage
B: it will probably be struck down by the Supreme Court of Costa Rica (SCOCR, kinda like soccer?  maybe I'm too easily amused).
