Assuming that story is complete and accurate, I can't imagine how much of an automaton you'd have to be to be the guys who went and arrested him. I'd be the kind of guy who'd look at the orders and then go speak to my boss.

And then your boss would probably say, "Go do the job you f*cking signed up for." Unless he didn't like you, in which case he would probably screw with you administratively.

It's ok if you're miserable, so long as you get to make somebody else miserable.  'merica!

So depending on what his status is, probably a Lawful Permanent Resident, there is no "minor" drug possession according to the INA. A drug possession CONVICTION constitutes what is called a CIMT a crime involving moral turpitude over the age of 18. Any one conviction over the age of 18 makes the LPR subject to deportation.

Social Security Number != Citizen.

Schitty situation, but those are the rules.  The rules need to be be changed, but until that happens those people have a job to do.

A social security number does not = citizen. Plenty of illegal immigrants are caught with social security numbers. Anyone can apply for one.

This legalistic BS is ridiculous. I've read regularly of people being denied entry for such "crimes". Technically, no celebrity or politician who leaves America should be allowed back into the country because of something stupid, illegal, immoral, or innocuous they did thirty years ago in a Paula Dean moment.

Bill Clinton would still be in the UK if the law were applied justly, equally and infalliably.

George W. Bush, who famously evaded the queston of whether he did coke with "I was eligible for a government security clearance while my Father was President" (which raises the questions of on what date precisely he may have been eligible for which level of security clearance), could never have gotten a job as a filing clerk at other points in time. He'd be just another Upper Class Twit with a drinking and drug problem if you applied the rules fairly across the board and the borders of the USA.

He shouldn't be allowed back into the country when he leaves. Let alone being arrested for war crimes committed by him, as his father, his grandfather and his great-grandfather should have been.

You know that Obama smoked a joint to look cool at some point. He was the only black guy at the party, he had to save face. Honestly, you can tell from his photos he was a harmless kid. And then he had to grow up and become President of the United States of America.

It's a hurtin' puppy of a country where any kid can do that. It's still a hurtin' puppy of a country even if Abe Simpson is right and you have a whole system to prevent a young Homer J. Simpson from becoming President. Oh, well, live and learn.

Life's not fair.

Sux to be you.

Yada, yada, yada.

Is there some mechanism in place to prevent me from applying for more than one?

/what if I just switch two letters in my already long and hard to spell name around?

Well, the law is there and everyone knows what it is. I guess despite the immature whining of the legalisation brigade, and their protests, it still is the law.

And now it's my fault for pointing that out.

I've dealt with some people with multiple social security numbers before. I guess it's not that hard to get multiple ones. I wouldn't know how to do it though.

Must have been some good weed if his dumb ass got caught three times. Dumb ass.

Reminds me of a Colombian guy I know who got a dui while he was on a work visa.   So the idiot flys to Colombia for a vacation, and gets grabbed and deported when he comes back.  "No one told me leaving the country would break my parole."  Has five more years before he can come back.

Sad situation sure, but when you are not a citizen in the country of your residence, you should really follow the rules.

He must not live in Madison, twenty years ago all you got was a ticket for weed there, ticket is civil offense not criminal!

Oh for the good ole days, sitting on the capital lawn, smoking all the weed you want during The Great Midwest Marijuana Harvest Festival, just don't sell or give any away but passing a bong around is OK!

Then the people elect a Republican Governor(Tommy Thompson) who says there will be no farking hippies smoking dope on my lawn, and the whole state has been going downhill ever since!

On Wisconsin! Keeping McCarthyism alive and well! Or Forward into the past!

So, they're drunk?
Cannabis advocates are only asking for equality in a land impacted far more by a legal intoxicant.

Reminds me of the time a couple of buddies and I were in a Colombian Strip Club(Casa Show) and they had two Canucks come in and sit at the table on the side of us.

My buddies and I all be vaguely Colombian were yapping in spanish, paying no mind, until one of the Canucks asks a stranger for some coke, in horrific spanish.   So the guy tells him he can get him an 8 ball for 150 bucks, and the Canucks front the money(you can get three grams in Colombia for like 8 bucks) the dude comes back with four large boxes of Adams Mint Chicles, and says "it is in the gum boxes to  hide it".  So dude leaves and these Canadians are sitting there crushing gum on the table thinking it is powder.

So my friend leans over and says "You guys just got hussled" and the Canadians get mad at us for not stepping in and blowing the whistle on the fake drug deal.  Like I wanted to get knifed in a whorehouse.  They create a huge fuss and the cops come.

I explain to the cops that they are a little drunk and just to let them go, and then the Canadian guy tells the cop in his bad spanish about the coke deal gone bad.  The cop looks at me and asks if it is true, and I say yes.  Cop arrests both of them.  And the Canadians are yelling "We are from Canada" and the cop says in pretty good English "Yes, but this is Colombia."

It is doubtful the feds would even know about a ticket for pot any more than a ticket for speeding.
Doesn't really matter anyhow as the remainder of the state charged people with a misdemeanor for simple possession of under an oz., a criminal offense!

They just figured they were in Colombia, and since that where the coke comes from, you know it must be legal.  At that time it was not, other times it has been.  The cop was pretty amiable until they told him they got ripped off for buying coke, so they were idiots for telling him that.

My experience is that about 80%of the Canadians I met think that the maple leaf carries some sort of magic power that allows them to act like assholes.  They are much worse than the ugly american stereotype.

I was in a bar with my wife in Medellin and these two Canadians have a ten minute conversation about her and what they would do to her, and I sent them a round of drinks with a note saying "you know, other people can speak english".  And the dude says to me "its cool bro, we are canadian, not american."  I informed them I was American and Colombian and in the US they would have never done that, and they were currently in Colombia and that if I informed the rest of the patrons in the bar what they were saying about a Colombian woman, the place would not be so friendly.
