not to mention, she has the face of a man.

Wow, actually a lot of good possibilities on that list (Captain Marvel, Jessica Jones and Photon, especially.)  Still, needs Squirrel Girl and Dagger.

A number of unfamiliar names and faces, but I'm willing to hear, and see, more.

Was there a thread about this that I missed?  The fanboi trolling potential in that is huge.

Not that I noticed, but it was kinda a low key film that he made for a few days during filming The Avengers.  Just called up some of his buddies, and shot it.

There were good female characters in The Avengers. It had Black Widow, Maria Hill and Captain America.

Fist-sized milk taps frequently are.

Was Jessica Jones the one who took it up the pooper? I didn't know that was a super-power now.

As long as they don't "sex up" the character. That kind of ruins it for me, believe it or not.

I was reading comments back then, and I believe the super power was the fact that the dude was Luke Cage, aka Power Man.

Personally seeing Mockingbird show up would be cool, although I think the Wasp is probably the most likely candidate.

It's Joss Whedon so you're going to get all the comic book version of "strong female characters" (space strippers with two guns instead of just one) you can't bother using google image search to crank it to.

Anybody else have an add that would cover part of the writing in that godawful excuse for a slideshow? I didn't make it through the list, needless to say. Has anyone deslided it yet?

Have you read any of his comics? Whedon created probably the single most feminist hero in Marvel during his X-run, Abigail Brand, who in addition to being a feminist icon, is hardcore awesome.

2013-07-04 09:23:46 AM
If they put Monica Rambeau in it they better have a coda at the end with her joining N.E.X.T.W.A.V.E BECAUSE THAT WOULD BE AWESOME!

2013-07-04 09:25:21 AM
Good idea. Most of the characters in the Avengers acted like catty teenage girls in the first place.

No but he's terrible at writing female characters. Not Kevin Smith terrible, but he's pretty bad. If he wrote one that isn't just a male in a big-titty woman's body then good for him but he writes them with an eye to his audience so you get things like TROUBLED LESBIAN WITCH and SPACE HOOKER WITH A GUN. So no doubt his next one is going to be TROUBLED SPACE WITCH WITH A GUN AND IS ALSO A HOOKER BECAUSE SHE CHOOSES TO BE ONE AND THAT'S WHAT FEMINISM IS ABOUT: CHOICES.

Don't forget about how in the final episode Whedon's most popular creation, a show that was supposed to be about female empowerment all of the women in the show would have been killed, had they not been saved by a guy who tried to rape the main character and his magic contrivance amulet (which he received from her other ex-boyfriend).

I don't think that's a valid way to discredit the whole show. It's like complaining that the original seasons of Futurama are bad because after they got uncancelled it apes off Family Guy. The show's original structured ending, the finale of season 5,  is much much much less problematic.

Mockingbird is unlikely seeing as they took all this screen time to set up Hawkeye and Black Widow. Wasp is likely although it's hard to see her without Hank and the team doesn't really need 2 super geniuses on it at once or you could say 3 with Banner. I'd like to see Captain Marvel.

Wasn't trying to discredit the whole show, those first 3 seasons are quality tv. I just find the ending kind of funny, when you consider how Whedon is always touted as this great feminist writer. And especially when you consider that the final episode especially was supposed to be all about empowering women.

There is an ant-man movie slated for Phase 3 of the Marvel Movie universe. I suppose they could have the Wasp show up in Avengers 2 and then link her to that movie. Although I am not sure how they would do it, since all her powers are based on Hank Pym's inventions. So if he hasn't showed up yet, what could she do?

You are right though Mockingbird is probably unlikely, I was just a big fan of the West Coast Avengers. The article suggested some sort of hawkeye love triangle, but considering how many stars are going to be in avengers 2, I don't see there being enough time to give a secondary character a love triangle storyline.

A model just discovering that she has powers. She has a minor freak out and is taken in by SHIELD< where she can train and learn to control her size changing ability. While there, she meets Hank Pym, new lead scientist.

Well, I'm hoping they go with mutant, but I can see how that would be dicey in the MCU, given that another company has the rights to the X-Men, and in all likelihood, all mutant characters.

Not all, since Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver will be in Avengers 2 but since they can't use the word 'mutant', I wonder how they'll explain how they got their powers.

Saw it last Friday and it's fantastic. When Joss Whedon shoots a movie at his house with all his friends, casts Alexis Denisof and Amy Acker as the romantic leads, and fills the rest of the cast with people from all his previous projects, I have alreayd told him to shut up and handed him my money.

Why have Spider-Women or She-Hulk? Use a female character that isn't just a female retread of a male character.  And Katherine Bishop used to be Hawkeye, so there's 3 out of 10 useless suggestions.

That's a guess. I thought I included the word "likely" in there. We've already seen the Infinity Gems multiple times, once in Thor, and the Mind Gem on Loki's scepter.  Knowing Thanos involved down the line makes this a pretty stark possibility, and would be useful to explain the Guantlet by showing, rather than telling.

I also SUSPECT that they're going to have the Gems scattered across the next few movies, as that niggling thread between.

Kate Bishop is still Hawkeye. Go read the current volume of Hawkeye, it's one of the best comics on the stand. It's about Hawkeye and Hawkeye having pulp, beautiful adventures. Here is a page.

It certainly doesn't help that there have been multiple versions of each, sometimes at the same time. Rambeux is still the best one, cuz Nextwave.

Just put River Tam in the next one. Who says every character has to be from the Marvel universe? Unless he's a total idiot, he owns the Firefly characters, there's never going to be another Firefly movie and Summer Glau could use the work. You're just going the write the same waifish girl who kicks everyone's ass anyway, you might was well use an established one.

/sure she's from 500 years in the future but is that really going to stop a comic book movie?

Just hire her to play Hawkeye, that way they can make a Young Avengers movie too. Who's pretty enough to play Wiccan or Noh-Vahr?

Wiccan might be hard to do considering he and his twin brother Speed are the sons of Scarlet Witch and Vision through demonic mischief and reality bending.
