czei: I guess the LA public would rather pay $15 for a designer cocktail made by a mixologist than pay $4 for a glasse of Guinness served by a bartender.

Don't forget that other part of LA where they'd rather pay $1.25 for a 40 of King Cobra.....or steal it, and drink it out of a paper bag.

Lady J: 'OK, most Angelenos probably haven't been inside Tom Bergin's in a long time.  '

I expect that's why it's closing then.

Nostalgia for nostalgia's sake is misplaced. Today's generation of drinkers don't give a shiat about Irisih heritage I guess. They're just American, which is maybe how it should be

That would be why. It's also not in the greatest location for a pub anymore--south of West Hollywood, tucked into a mostly lower-class residential area not too far from Hancock Park. It's not the best area to go for drinks and good times. Not bad, but not good, either.

Things change. You can't will people to go to a place you yourself wouldn't hang out in because Nostalgia and Tradition.

I prefer English pubs and my favorites having rocking along with no end in sight; The Cat and the Fiddle and the Pig and Whistle.  Both in Hollywood.
