James F. Campbell: I don't get it. Beautiful girls are a dime a dozen. What's so special about this one?

Her character was enthusiastically happy, and there was something about her that made you happy that she was happy.  It wasn't about her looks, it was about her energy.

Her name was Boxxy.  You see?!

Cute enough to melt the hearts of basement dwelling misogynists.

She was a real life My Little Pony.  You ether loved her personality, or loved to hate her because you loved her personality.

skinink: Still waiting for a media streamer that offers these three on the same device (none do at this time): Netflix, Amazon Instant Video and Youtube.

Tivo called. They've been doing this for years.

This sums it up in a suitably internet level fashion

She made a video about MLP.

She may be a real life Pinkie Pie.

Wow, I wonder how many bags of cheetos and gallons of amp energy were consumed during the writing of that.

See America, this is why we can't have nice things.

The presence of the videos created a dispute on 4chan, leading to various flame wars and hacking incidents among factions that claimed to either support or oppose Boxxy

You have to hand it to Boxxy. She beat 4chan at their own game. An impressive feat.

She acted so weird. You wanted to be annoyed but just couldn't.

The LG Smart TV Upgrader is discontinued but still available in the world. It does Netflix, Amazon, Youtube and has native support for Plex. It can connect to UPnP/DLNA AV sources, has a USB port for local media support and speaks SMB and NFS for direct connections to network shares. It'll play .MKV and .FLAC and it can deliver audio in AC3 or DTS. The interface is slow and ugly but just about the only hole I'm aware of in its capabilities is support for .ISO files and Video_TS folders.

The Boxee Box was also a pretty good device for viewing local content, but it always annoyed me that it didn't support UPnP. I liked the remote and the speed of the interface, but as someone else said, Plex is ultimately an all-around better setup.

I'm using a Pivos Xios DS in my back bedroom now. That has support for both Plex and XBMC (and PlexBMC, which is how I use it), which gives a kind of best of breed UI, albeit not as fast as the HTPC setup in my living room.

I have a Sony Blu Ray player that does all of those. It cost $100 three years ago.

We have a 7 year old laptop that's serving that purpose right now.  The video isn't perfect, but it definitely gets the job done.  Our PS3 is our primary device for Netflix Streaming (and the disks, since it's our DVD player as well) and Amazon.  The laptop is mainly for Youtube and Hulu.

I should add that our TV is a 720 plasma, not a 1080, but we're not that discerning.

There's nothing wrong with a 720P HDTV, especially if it's smaller - 50" or so.  It's just as good as 1080i.

She didn't get fat.  I just watched a video from 4 months ago and she looks damn near the same as she always did.

You sound old.

Not too tricky.  Certain providers allow you to watch Sunday Ticket on your computer/tablet/mobile device.  If you're talking straight OTA digital antenna feed, my guess is you can get a card for your laptop, or maybe even a USB-to-coax connector.

Nah, just get an HDHome run for OTA or a HDHR prime for cable (I actually have both) The HDHomerun Prime is an incredible deal at $140 bucks. It uses a cablecard (like a TIVO) and has three tuners. Much cheaper (at $2/month to rent the cable card) than the 20 bucks a month the cable company wants for a DVR. Set up correctly you should have access to pretty much all the content (even premium channels like HBO) provided you use windows media center. If you want to use something like Myth TV or media center programs, locked content (like HBO) won't work. WMC is actually a pretty decent DVR, the only pain in the butt is that it only works well with official media extenders like the XBOX 360, though I'm hoping that once the new XBOX comes out the I'll be able to pick up a couple of older ones for <$100 just for that purpose.

I AM old.  Doesn't change her not being fat, though.

Yah there's less of a use for DVR when you have HuluPlus, Netflix, etc built right into yr Smart TV to pull it down from the Intarwebs.

Oh yeah, and Boxxy / Catie Wayne is still around making new stuff. I like Catie more than Boxxy actually.

My understanding is that the only reason it doesn't is that Amazon's contract with the studios will not allow them to make prime video available to anything other than a PC/Mac. The hangup is entirely at Amazon's end - not Tivo's.

Given Amazon offers it on at least the Xbox and their own tablets, I'm not sure that is the reason.
