Cythraul: It's getting so hard to maintain a dictatorship these days.

I know, why do they have to make things so difficult?  Q could have taken care of this with a snap of his fingers.  ;)

Well, Mubarak finally lost his grip, and the people demanded change.  The MB convinced them that they were not a bunch of religious zealots, and the people went with it.  The MB proved that they actually were zealots, and the people are demanding change again.

I really do hope that this time, the people get what they probably wanted the first time around:  A free society that respects their group religion, but also allows them to just live and do what they need to do.

/wishful thinking, right?

2013-07-03 02:50:13 PM
I hope the military take it to a government more like Turkey's.

The revolution will be lasered.

"Tanks are on the move", and all we have is the SAME video grab of a bunch of people sitting around chanting, occasionally flashing their green laser pointers at the camera? I'm done clicking on Egypt links today. This "coup" shiat is boring.

Oh boy! the Middle East will be totally different now!

I know we in the US don't have it as bad as they do; but it would still be nice if elected officials approval ratings dropped below a certain percentage they would be ousted as well.

Why, just another week of reporting it, and it may turn out to be as big a scandal as the IRS story, the Benghazi story, and the Fast and Furious story!

Well, if your constitution won't let you remove the president without parliamentary intervention, and much of parliament is in the pocket of the president who keeps giving himself extrajudicial powers, how exactly are you supposed to remove him?

With Egypt's military you either are in bed with them or you're not.  If you're not, you better have a trump card to contain them because they'll just shove you aside or kill you outright.

In fairness, the best coup for a world is a peaceful, bloodless one. If you're watching the egyptian coup like you'd watch a nascar race, you may be sorely disappointed.

//on the other hand, if history repeats itself...

ShawnDoc: Nothing says Democracy like a military coup of a democratically elected government.

Nothing says Democracy like Morsi assuming dictatorial powers, like he did back in November and still hadn't given everything up. Or the Muslim Brotherhood excluding secular parties during the drafting of the country's new Constitution.

2013-07-03 04:13:28 PM
Wow, Obama really FUBARed Egypt.  Nice job, it really sucked having the country under an American-friendly dictatorship ... as opposed to an Anti-American dictatorship.

Everyone who is too young to remember how Iran became the huge farking problem it is today ... thirty years ago the exact same thing happened there (overthrow of the Shah of Iran, United States offers him zero support) that has happened in Egypt over the last two years.  And thirty years from now, when Egypt's a huge farking problem (like Iran is today), liberals all over the world will stick their head in the sand and conveniently forget they farked it up (for absolutely no reason).
