I have faith and all, but when my son was terminally sick we looked into every single medical option available.  That's your duty as a parent, pray and have faith, but your kid can't make that decision for themselves so quit being stupid and go to the farkin doctor.

Do these monsters think that God couldn't be a guiding force behind things like penicillin, chemo therapy, antibiotics, etc.?

My priest used to tell us this joke:

A man is trapped in his home during a flood. A man in a canoe arrives and says, "Let me save you". The man responds "God will save me". The water rises and the man goes to his second floor. A man in a rowboat arrives and says, "Let me save you". The man responds "God will save me". The water rises and the man goes to the roof. A man in a helicopter arrives and says, "Let me save you". The man responds "God will save me". The water rises and the man drowns. The man arrives in heaven and says to God, "Lord, why didn't you save me?", to which God responds "I sent a canoe, a rowboat and a helicopter... what more did you want?"

That's fine, I just know the story.  She was having pains during spring and the doctors said she had a growth around her reproductive organs.  I don't recall precisely where, but they had MRI's of it and scheduled her surgery for last month.  They found nothing wrong, closed her up and sent her home.  She hasn't had pains since.

No, it is the "idiots who ignore science and cause their children to die for religion" bashing thread. I have no issue if the idiots choose not to receive treatment and get themselves killed (although I bet the vast majority would break down whe the pain got bad), but their children are not able to make these informed decisions.

The case is not as simple as Farkers would like it to be. Wisconsin law grants a right to pray instead of seeking medical treatment. By statute, doing so is not child abuse. The court has to take that as given. The parents argue that being not guilty of child abuse makes them not guilty of death resulting from the same conduct.

Here is the court decision: http://www.wicourts.gov/sc/opinion/DisplayDocument.html?content=html& s eqNo=98993. I haven't read the whole thing yet.

You're here complaining about the people "bashing religion."  In fact, people are bashing child abusers and murderers.  The fact that you equate the two is revealing.   These people's religion inspired them to let their kid die.

Now stop trying to make this all about you and how horribly you're being "persecuted for your faith."  Nobody buys that crap.  Climb down off your self-erected cross and admit that any religion that inspires parents to kill their kids is a pretty messed up belief system.

From the article's comments: Also, children who are seriously ill do not become healthy nor do they appear to show signs of improvement as they approach the terminal stage. Tack on 10 years for lying under oath.

This isn't actually true.  It depends a lot on the illness.  Also, it's well known in hospice care that people often get a little burst of "wellness" near the end, perhaps as a way of being able to spend some time with loved ones before they go.  This happened to my father.  He seemed to be getting well, and then 2 weeks later he died.

I don't know, but it seems irrelevant here:

According to court records, the young girl became sick in 2008 and instead of seeking medical attention, her parents chose to pray for her healing.

Ain't nobody can do nothin' if the bible-bashing idiots don't tell anyone what's going on in the first place.

And these worthless shiatheels got one month of jail a year for six years. For murdering a child. Slowly. They tortured a child to death. And they have two others they're allowed to keep if they really honest to jeebus promise to not kill them the same way.

WTF is wrong with this farking country? These two should face chemical sterilization and life in prison.

There's a reason why I support the death penalty.  Premeditated murder that was caused after extensive pain and suffering.  If members of society do not value life why should society value theirs?

There's an old saying that 'God helps those who help themselves' and I figure it's about right.

After all, He did give us the brains with which to access, explore and understand knowledge as well as to expand upon and develop whole new technologies.

I'm not sure if He counted on 'stupid' being so wide spread, along with basic blind ignorance.

(SNIP)

Later it dawned on folks that cleaning their tools, like bone cutters, of blood and tissue before jumping in to hack off the next arm or leg helped even more. Cleaning them before packing them away wasn't sufficient.

I used to read of surgeries performed with no anesthetic. Especially one where a land owner had to have a bladder stone removed. Pain, and lots of it, was a normal part of life in the past -- which might account for certain attitudes.

Then, along came anesthetics. Antibiotics. Immunizations. Sterile technique. A host of new, minimally invasive surgical procedures.

God gave us the brains to make the tools to help ourselves.

I suspect He had a reason for that.

In other words god does absolutely nothing but soak up credit for medical breakthroughs made by doctors and scientists over hundreds of years. Got it.

Exactly what part of 'gave us the brains' did you not understand? Look at Chimps. They use tools, live in a 'society', can learn tricks and have improvised in some food gathering. Yet they don't have creativity, quantum leaps of thought, organized reasoning or even the most basic concept of medical care.

In most religious texts, it states humans were given 'free will', something animals were not. This has enabled us to make use of our inborn curiosity to do more than just inspect a flower for it's scent or poke a snake to see if it will attack. Instead of licking a wound to clean it, we actively look for remedies to encourage it to not only heal, but to prevent infection and ease the pain.
