But is getting raped? Because, you know, everyone in prison should be raped as part of their incarceration.

/but who rapes the rapists?

Isn't jail time a little extreme for using Facebook?

I love Texas.

At the rate this is going, anyone with an XBL account will run the risk of going to jail.

2013-07-03 08:31:22 AM
Oh BS. they arrested him, searched his house found no weapons, no plans, no intent whatsoever. If you're ok with living in an age where you can be thrown in jail for a long period of time solely over shiat you post on Facebook, why dont you just move to China, subby?

This is a goddamned travesty and I hope the kid gets rich of it.

Assault is assault, even if the victim is a douche.

Did he own or have access to any guns? teenagers say stupid shiat all the time most of them think about 5 minutes after they talk.

Some kid got expelled for "planning" a school shooting in a private chat room when I was in high school.  I remember people thinking that was excessive.

Heard the story on my way into work today and this is some pretty much a giant farking bullshiat craptastic travesty.

Of course, its Texas and to be fair I'm not sure we can trust you guys with anything down there.

Yea, that is bullshiat than. His parents should be allowed to smack some sense into him but throwing him in jail is ridiculous.

Warning to future teenagers. Nexttime write a fictional story about yourself shooting up a school. That should at least be covered by the first amendment.

There is a school that suspended a student for eating a pop tart vaguely in the shape of a gun. Don't underestimate schools.

part of me thinks that this is a travesty of justice, and the authorities are willing to destroy the life of some kid just to show how tough they are on crime, even though the kid was a threat to nobody.

but part of me wonders why anyone, even a teenager, would think it was okay to say "i'm gonna shoot up a kindergarten" on facebook and not think there would be repercussions.

2013-07-03 08:39:41 AM
So you can go to jail for being an ITG?

2013-07-03 08:41:03 AM
Yeah, I would be going and getting my son, and standing in my way would be a bad idea.
There's a point at which you stop respecting authority, and this is it.

Please make sure you take the time to thank your elected officials for passing the necessary legislation that keeps us safe from thoughts and/or random utterances.  We should all feel much safer today knowing that these heinous types of acts won't be tolerated and don't go unpunished.

He was probably pretty sure that a Facebook post didn't warrant jailtime. He underestimated the stupidity of Texas.

HotWingConspiracy: I don't read that as a threat.

FTFA: In April, a grand jury in Comal County, Texas, indicted Carter on a charge of making a terroristic threat, and a judge set bail at $500,000.

I'm sorry, threat? "Terroristic" threat? This is a word now? I want to know how "I think Ima shoot up a kindergarten" manages to qualify as terrorism? I mean, looking.. The kid was being dumb. Expel him from school or make him do community service. Way to blow this out of proportion. Also, how is bail for this half a mil? Because they call it terrorism?
..... Is terrorism our new marketing hot button word that we can apply to anything now?

/Indeed. Although in this day and age, i can see them taking seriously a "terroristic threat", them investigating and finding no evidence of intent beyond a douchbag comment, they should have just fined him, or given him community service.  Jail time, no matter how much of a jackass he was for making the comment, is a bit harsh.  Esp a year.  Now, if they had found a ninja outfit, AR-15, and tons of ammo, plans of a school, yes...jail time.  But this is not unlike arresting someone and jailing them for a "thought crime".  If i say I'm going to rob a bank, will i get arrested and thrown in prison for a comment?  Just wondering how much this new "slippery slope" goes.

/And no...im not robbing a bank.

Plenty of teenagers on Xbox live think it is ok to say they are going to have forced sexual relations with me, my mother, or sometimes my grandmother. While annoying I don't think they should be thrown in jail for it.

Well, you've got your first guys in jail. The originals. They weren't raping at first, but they eventually started raping each other according to size and  ease of access. Then the new guys showed up and the originals were all like, "let's just start raping the new guys!" they voted and a majority passed.

The woman that contacted the police was Canadian. I've been reading about this since it happened.

The kids were trash talking, one of the other kids said something about how the "criminal" was acting crazy and his response was to post something on FB. He and the kid were friends on FB. In earlier stories his FB comment was clearly related to the conversation from the online game.

He's an idiot, but being an idiot is still legal most of the time.

And yet, based on Newtown, Aurora, Virginia Tech, etc *actually* committing a mass shooting isn't considered terrorism.

There are consequences for your actions and comments, and this asshat is finding that out the hard way... At least he didn't have any weed, like any other normal 19 year old... Then he'd be facing life in PMITA prison...

Also, yes, this is a typical knee jerk reaction to the Sandy Hook shooting... And this surprises anyone how?

After putting you in solitary. So you can't hang yourself or choke yourself by ingesting them. People have gotten really creative in ways to themselves in jail.

§ 22.07. TERRORISTIC THREAT. (a) A person commits an offense if he threatens to commit any offense involving violence to any person or property with intent to: (1) cause a reaction of any type to his threat by an official or volunteer agency organized to deal with emergencies; (2) place any person in fear of imminent serious bodily injury; (3) prevent or interrupt the occupation or use of a building, room, place of assembly, place to which the public has access, place of employment or occupation, aircraft, automobile, or other form of conveyance, or other public place; (4) cause impairment or interruption of public communications, public transportation, public water, gas, or power supply or other public service; (5) place the public or a substantial group of the public in fear of serious bodily injury; or (6) influence the conduct or activities of a branch or agency of the federal government, the state, or a political subdivision of the state.

I really want to know how law enforcement can determine he intended any of those things.  I don't think he expected a reaction from the police, so we can rule #1 out.  After investigating and finding no plans, means, or intent to actually place anyone in danger, and given the context of his comments we can rule #2, #3, #4 and #5 out.  Since this was not a political statement aimed at influencing any governmental entity, we can rule #6 out.

How is this guy in jail again?

If sarcasm is a farking crime, fark should be in jail.
