Gosling: Oh, while I'm here, this would be a good time to note that CBS will need to edit Aaryn's Aryan's byline to remove the 'model' designation, because unbeknownst to her, she no longer is.

Dude, the preferred nomenclature is Asian American.

But what if the Asian American is actually from China vs a Japanese Asian American?

Barricaded Gunman: Smeggy Smurf: Barricaded Gunman: Smeggy Smurf: It's a culture of trashiness and racism. Them, arabs and warhoops are the three cultures that I cannot stand one bit.

A fine example of "trashiness and racism," indeed. Also, your own racism is superior to my Google-Fu, as I still have no idea what a "warhoop" is.

You are mistaking culturalism for racism.  Typical ignorance of the mental somnambulist.

As opposed to mistaking polysyllabism for intellectual prowess, or pedantry for cleverness?

Your quote was "Filipinos earn the hate by having one of the foulest and nastiest cultures possible."  You didn't say "Some Filipinos earn the hate..." but lumped them all together as a monolithic mass that somehow "earned" the hatred that you apparently have for them.  That's textbook racism, Einstein. You can dance around all day long about "culturalism" versus "racism" but no one's buying it but you.

calling Filipinos a race is like calling the British a race.

Maybe you're looking for pacific-islander.

Barricaded Gunman: Fano: it even defeats the rsdb.org, although a war whoop is an injun of some type

Thanks for clarifying that one. I suppose he has a problem with their "culture," too.

Not to plug it, but the racial slur database is where i go to find out, for instanc, what term armenians have for eskimos, and other terms you would have no idea exist. I don't think I clarified though, and await a more precise explanation of warhoops. perhaps the african tribesmen with the ring through the lips? so many ways to be hateful.

Girion47: calling Filipinos a race is like calling the British a race.  Maybe you're looking for pacific-islander.

You may be correct on the "Pacific Islander" part as that definitely denotes race, but I don't think I could apply for citizenship in the Republic of the Philippines and then start going around calling my tall, white guy self a Filipino. The term carries at least a connotation of specific ethnicity, if not an actual denotation.

Under the Dome is pretty good. Very good for a summer show.

I tried to watch especially since Dean Norris (Hank from Breaking Bad) was in it but I couldn't get into it.  I don't have anything bad to say about what I saw about it but it just didn't grip me in.

There was a thread about a year ago about how it's now offensive to use the word redard for redards.  I tried to find the link for you but can't.  You just imagine how that thread was.

The real test is if they show it.  This season one of the twists is that each week, one person (voted for by the viewers) gets to select someone else to go "on the block" (be one of the 3 that can be evicted).  If they don't show her being, well, herself, then she, being fairly pretty, might get voted for by people who don't watch the feeds or follow the news. This season, hiding it means supporting the hatred.  I've disliked Aaryn since the first night (of Big Brother After Dark) when she suggested 2 of the male houseguests should be on brokeback mountain (I don't remember exactly how she phrased it) and had an expression that suggested she thought she was being especially cruel as she said it.

McCrae, the Pizza Delivery guy, on the other hand, outright told his closest friend on the show that she was going too far, even though she didn't appear (to me) to be purposefully mean spirited.  It seemed her comments were just trying to be offensive in the same manner as dead baby jokes.  Distasteful, sure. But not out of spite.

The Canadian Big Brother has the live feeds for free, but I still barely found the time to watch them.  Except at night, but everyone was always sleeping then.

Heard mention of that a while ago, didn't know it was out yet.  Will check it out despite my doubts about the premise.

It seems pretty decent so far. Dean Norris from Breaking Bad should make a good villain, and I found it hilarious that Stephen King kills off The Lawnmower Man by the end of the first episode. The only part that seemed weird was the councilman's son going from lovesick puppy to psycho in half an hour.

Small correction, he's actually Big Jim's (Dean Norris's) son.

Non-correction - Big Jim is the councilman, and Junior is his son, and is psycho.
I've really liked the first couple episodes, even with Jeff Fahey dropping as quickly as he did.

The show that actually surprised me recently was Siberia - I expected it to be the typical NBC shiatfest, but they are pulling off a passable-looking reality show. Dunno how it's going to fare when "Bear Grylls' Drink Your Own Piss or Die" reality competition becomes the lead-in at 9:00, though...

I don't know why not. Are there persons of African descent living in the Pacific Islands who self-identify as African-Filipinos? I don't know that, either. Perhaps it's just my own form of unintentional racism, but when I think of "Filipinos" I picture ethnically-Asian-appearing people who are natives of the Philippines, not just somebody who happened to move to the Philippines and get citizenship.

Alleged racism generated huge ratings and publicity for the British version of Big Brother a few years ago. It involved a pretty trashy woman basically bullying an Indian actress and using terms the audience thought were racist. Led to the actress winning the game.

Unlike the government, TV producers are obliged to have mastery of counting. Drama is expensive. Drama as played by non-unionized, non-actors that only requires blocking notes and a heavy editing commitment is not expensive. It's the Pinterest of programming and suits precisely the summer viewing demographic.

Hasn't the writers guild been pissed off about this for awhile? I think it was during or before the last writers strike where they were pushing so that the editors who cut the episodes of various reality shows, and essentially put the story together had to be WGA members.

Jeff Fahey's character lived longer in the series than he did in the book though.

We haven't seen this weeks episode yet.  Bad time at home Monday night that ended up with my wife's cat dying.  :(  Anyway.  I'm wondering how far into the psycho of Junior they will go.  Necrophilia would be a tough sell for a network show.

2013-07-03 03:28:48 PM
I was a Big Brother fan for about the first 12 seasons. I watched the first episode of this one and realized I finally outgrew the show. It's like the producers didn't realize that The Onion's "Sex House" was supposed to be a satire of them and decided to make the show more like that.

The calls of racism, homophobia, and sexism sound like the what happens when your audience becomes millions of high school kids who spend their summers updating their Tumblr blogs. Not that those comments weren't utterly dickish, not that I won't enjoy reading about the bad things that happen to those contestants in due time, but there used to be a time not long ago when you had to EARN being called a racist. Archie Bunker looks at those quotes and wonders where CBS got all those bleeding heart liberals from.

Huge swaths of America are looking for racist role models and there are few outlets for that thanks to the upper-middle class sensibilities that steer our culture - what lower classes refer to with disdain as "political correctness".

Why would anyone with honest, gainful employment go on one of those no-talent-required* reality shows? We're approaching the 14th year of this craze (I like to start at the premier of the first U.S. Survivor) and you pretty much know going in that you will not be presented in the most flattering light--though these BB hamsters aren't doing themselves any favors either. Pass on the fame.

Filipinos earn the hate by having one of the foulest and nastiest cultures possible.  Only the women hating Pakistanis are worse.

The rest of the region, not so bad.  A bit weird on occasion but not anything to get excited over.

I know i'll probably regret this, but i'll bite: what's so "foul and nasty" about Filipinos?

(BTW: Why is it "Filipinos", and not "Philipinos"? They live in the Philippines, not the Filippines)

My personal experience is on the military bases.  Try to imagine a culture where there is absolutely no respect for personal space or property.  If they want it, they take it.  If you're holding it and they want it, they'll hit you to take it regardless of your age.  Then add in a hate for anybody not from the Philipines.

It's a culture of trashiness and racism.  Them, arabs and warhoops are the three cultures that I cannot stand one bit.

Wow. I'm not sure we visited the same country. I lived there for 2 years (not on a base, just in some regular apartments) and I freaking loved it. Depending on where you're at Americans can be an oddity that they've never met so, yeah, they can be a bit obnoxious at times but I love the culture. From what I've experienced it's kind of a what's mine is you're culture, something I had a hard time with at the beginning, but there's always a helping hand if you need it.

Seriously... eleventy bajillion channels on cable and satellite, plus television programming and documentaries on history, science and technology accessible since the 40's, and movies since the 20's... and this is the best people can find and that programmers can put on? Even the Discovery channel, the History channel, the Military channel and The Learning Channel, all "go-to" places on the cable box when you wanted to fill your mind and not empty it, are now full of sh*t like "Ice Road Truckers" "Deadliest Catch", "Miami Ink", "Extreme Makeover", "What not to Wear" and motherf*cking "Honey f*cking Boo Boo".

More media available than 1,000,000 people could ever watch in their lifetimes if they were strapped to a chair and made to watch 16 hours a day from the time they were 5 years old... and this is what these media morons put on. But it's not their fault... it's the fault of the people who watch this sh*t... the dumbasses.
