27,059.  I know a few folks that were at it, I am interested to hear how it was to see it.

We were in a neighborhood bar and the place was going nuts.

Some people were dicks about homer, for sure, but I think most of us just were a bit let down to hear all the hype and then see him struggle.

I listened to the post-game interview this morning.
He came across as a very likable guy, who was just as surprised as everyone else, that he was able to pull this off.

Tip of the cap to you, Homer.

The interesting part: if he didn't walk Blanco, he wouldn't have the no-hitter. Because Bailey was late covering first on the play, Buster Posey was going to be safe. Thankfully Votto had the presence of mind to get Blanco heading to third and turn it into a fielder's choice. Without Blanco on the base paths, Posey is still safe but it is ruled a hit.

Everything you said is true, but it's hard to know if that exact scenario would have even presented itself.  If Homer didn't have a bug in his mind about Blanco, maybe he would have been covering.  Maybe Posey was trying to pull to give Blanco a chance to advance.  It's hard telling.  Given the way it played out, Homer definitely owes Votto a nice dinner somewhere, for having the instincts to gun down Blanco.

All I have to add to this is that if Votto had moved his butt just a little bit he would have caught that ball in the first place. He stood there like a deer in headlights and let it bounce to him. I think it was a little pop up, unless I missed it hitting the ground near the plate.

As the fan of a team with many disappointing young players (Mariners - Ackley, Smoak, Montero, Saunders), I have to learn from this and remember that sometimes the solution is "let them keep playing until they don't suck anymore."

Royals fans, this applies to you as well.

I was at the game last night. I told my date I wanted to leave around the 7th inning because I had to drive back to Dayton and work today. But I happened to glance at the scoreboard and saw the no runs, but it was the first time I noticed no hits. So I told her we should at least wait until he gave up a hit. Which never happened. It was extra special for me because I have season tickets to the Dayton Dragons Reds A affiliate. I watched Homer pitch about 15 feet away from me when he warmed up for his games. I love seeing my boys get to the show and even more when they succeed.

Having said that, Homer was a pure douche after the game. He's pissed off at Marty Brennaman for some reason, so he would not give WLW - the flagship station for the Reds - an interview after the game. Look, I'm sure Marty is an egotisitical jerk (but his announcing is stellar), but the fans are the ones who pay his salary and give him the adulation he wants/needs. It was way not cool to punish the Cincinnati fans because of his problem with some of the WLW staff. He's 27 years old for chrissake - not 12.

But Homer is the real deal - two no-hitters inside a year is not luck.

He did dropped the f-bomb earlier so I could see the radio be wary about giving him an interview. There was also the lengthy press conference. The Commissioner's Office needs to send a memo out soon about players using profanity to media when giving interviews or public speeches in a ballpark. This is the second time it has happened this season and next time, someone is going to get fined whether or not the FCC is going to fine or not. Selig needs to buckle down on this. This is more important than PEDs.

For the Giants, this is such a blow. This is the halfway mark of the season and the Giants are now in the basement of the NL West after losing in a no-hit game. Dodgers fans are elated this happened last night.

WLW wanted the interview.  Marc (with a c) Amazon apparently pouted for the first hour of his Extra Innings show about Homer blowing off the on-field interview request.

/it's a skill, yo
