"Free packet of regular screws to replace the non-standard screws in a consumer device" = "Consumer device liberation kit"?

Do the kits include Guinness bar towels?

You can actually buy a screwdriver that works with those screws for less than $5.  People talk about them like they're some ultra secret Apple screw, but they're just pentalobe screws.

If you have the right screwdriver, they're actually much better than Phillips screws.

Exactly.  I bought one of these screwdrivers many, many months ago.  It was like a dollar on eBay.  Anyone that buys iPhone parts on iFixit is paying about twice what the parts cost on eBay.  Maybe more in some cases.

i said it in the last thread, if you buy a back to replace a broken one, they give you a screwdriver...

Only an iPhone user would be dumb enough to be foiled by a common type of screw

Why 1,776? Remove the comma from the number.

Is it a sign of the author's own stupidity that he thought that was required, or is it a chilling indictment upon us all that for some people out there it was necessary?

Wait, don't those come standard in a $5 Torx set at Harbor Freight?

/I've got a set that I damn near wore out modding 1st-gen Xboxes when I worked at Gamestop
//one of my employees managed to mod Gamecubes; I'm still impressed after all these years

Aren't they just torx screw drivers?  Anyone with a tool set already has one, especially anyone who does work on electronics.

I think they have a piece of metal in the middle.

I just break those off and use a torx.

iPhone people have been saying these are very easy to find. When they were first announced to be using these screws everyone else threw a fit saying Apple was locking people out of their hardware.
