I helped out on a scallop study on college. We ate them within an hour of being taken out of the ocean: they were so amazing that I won't ever eat them again.

Hey, if you stumble upon a new taste sensation you might have a billion dollar foodstuff.

I've said time and time again, if it's rare but tasty you can solve the rarity with a little marketing. Or take care of an infestation with a tasty marketing campaign. Snakes in the Everglades and nutira in the bayou. I don't know if you could profitably breed elephants for meat, but their tusks might carry the day.

I must say -- putting dirt in your mouth IS the fastest and easiest way to figure out its texture... Most people cant get past the idea of putting dirt in their mouths though. Like they are going to get sick and die or something? Idk. The body is pretty tough.

Though my dentist would not be keen on it...

You never know whats good until you throw yourself in and try it.

Speaking as a crypto zoologist, I really get annoyed when a new species is discovered in some damn dirty Asian open air marketplace served alongside the rotisserie chicken.

And though it wasn't intentional, Watson even shared his species with his dog. Watson brought home some bioluminescent ctenophores (comb jellies) to show his wife, then left them on the lawn. His dog ate them. "The most amazing barf I have ever seen," said Watson.

After that, he had a technicolor lawn.

Scientists' natural curiosity has led them to put some strange things in their mouths.

Bow chicka

was more viscous than tap water, Lollar said.

. . . . bow wow.

Not many papers are going to get published about your attempt to copulate with a deep sea vent snail, but eat the thing and you are fast tracked to the cover of Nature.
