PickleBarrel: You know how I can tell noone read the article?  The officer that was fired was the one driving the speeding SUV. The governor was in the back seat.

But don't let me get in the way of a great politician "privilege" bashing thread.

Go read it again and get back to us.

I think that was the last governor before him.

nope. this was 1992 or so when eric braindead crossed the center line and killed two old folks in a head on collision.....and state troopers were not allowed to talk to the young man until after a lawyer had. he got off, and then got in more trouble, and is now head of some phony iowa anti-tax institute.
Came here to mention this.
Yep the governors kids was not interviewed or tested till the following day. He was life flighted out and the elderly couple with worse injuries had to wait for ambulances. They both died and he was fined about $24 each for failure to maintain control of his vehicle if I remember correctly. I believe the questioning was done by someone very high up at the governors mansion.
I can't believe the POS got re-elected! He didn't even get pulled over, just because they pursued him the guy is getting canned? What an ass the governor is!
Yes I have seen that vehicle fly past me on a few occasions license plate #1 with a state trooper at the wheel.

The speed limit there is 65. Contrary to what frightened Americans are led to believe, police officers cannot break the speed limit unless it's necessary to respond to a crime. Branstad knew damn bloody well his driver was speeding, unless he's a retard.

As for his plate not being in the computer system...well, when political leaders freely break the laws, and can anonymize themselves out of public records, both acts in violation to the state constitution, that moves Iowa's state government closer to that of East Germany.

Lawmakers usually exempt themselves from the laws they create. Unless the politician is responding to a life-and-death situation, the speed limit must apply. (Being late for a photo op /campaign fundraiser does not qualify).

When a former NJ governor was clocked over the posted speed limit, he started using a State Police helicopter to travel.  Much more expensive for the taxpayers.

Even with a State Trooper driving a vehicle, if it is going above the speed limit, all vehicles involved should have emergency lights and sirens activated so other motorists and the public know that police are involved
